  1. Not a big fan of Middlo's (I don't think he's particularly astute tactically), but he is a good motivator and has contributed to some excellent performances in dire situations (remember Poland World Cup in 2001). Britain don't have the riders - and is that really Middlo's fault?
  2. Because this is the standard race formula for seperating 5 tied riders. It has been used since at least the sixties (although not very often). Heat 24 is needed to produce a final ranking. Consider the position if instead of needing to find three qualifiers only one was needed.
  3. Here's my suggestions for 2012: Current GP stars still going: Crump (if he still wants to - he's 5 years younger than Hancock who is still going strong now) Hampel Lindback Jonsson (just about) N Pedersen (ditto) Zagar 2006 wilcards: H Andersen Kolodziej Lindgren Kasprasak New young blood: Holder Saifutindov (particularly as we'll most likely be having a Russian GP) Bridger Hefenbrock Plus one from: Batchelor Simota A third Dane - Risager or Bjerre If any of the Poles fall by the wayside then I'm sure that there will be another one able to replace them (Hlib, Karol Zabik?) If there is a second Brit it will be Stead or Harris. Auty will still only be 21 and would have to do astoundingly well to be a GP regular at that age. Of course this assumes that the GP looks fairly similar to the current format - which it probably won't be.
  4. However it was a far better meeting than the Pairs
  5. It must have been an early experimental version of Satnav
  6. Note the age of the 5 finalists. Youngest was Chris Manchestrer - age 32 Average age of the finalists was 41
  7. This was a pretty jaw dropping outcome: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  8. Presumably the host track/Belgian federation. Who got invited last year? Belgian Golden Helmet 13 August 2005 results from inspeed.de 1) Sebastian Aldén S 2) Martin Smolinski D 3) Christian Hefenbrock D 4) Zbigniew Czerwinski PL 5) Adam Pawliczek PL 6) Robert Mikolajczak PL 7) Oliver Allen GB 8) Daniel Davidsson S 9) Mathieu Tresarrieu F 10) Tobias Kroner D 11) Per-Ola Klasson S 12) Jannick de Jong NL 13) Troy Batchelor AUS 14) René van Weele NL 15) Benjamin Borgers NL 16) Eddie Turksema NL

  12. According to Balashkovo website @ http://www.irgiz.narod.ru/2005nov03.html Or as online translator says: The Grand prix of Latvia which so waits all спидвейный Daugavpils, in the future to year can become a reality. In the preliminary schedule of stages for 2006, declared the owner of the rights to the organization of a series of Grand prix - firm BSI, Latvia allocates date on September, 9th. At present the probability of arrival to Daugavpils world спидвейной elites is estimated in 90 %. Negotiations with organizers of the world championship at participation of vice-president FIM of Nina Birjukovoj on which possible details while are fulfilled all
  13. Congratulations Peter/Simon Yes - bookmark this page and look at it again in ten years time. There's even a lad called Jonas Davidsen - now that could get confusing! http://www.dmusport.dk/images/stories/Stil...v_rangliste.pdf
  14. It looks like 3 for a win and one for a defeat, and one for the aggregate bonus.
  15. 1 Nobody wants to stage the world cup as it is (hence the spread over three countries this year) 2 With 6-8 man teams even fewer nations would compete - either because of cost or lack of strength in depth (remember USA found 5 man teams too much and didn't take part last year) 3 too many matches not involving the host nation would be a financial risk However what I would like to see is a format that allows team racing so that every race involves two pairs of riders from two of the four participating countries
  16. Ah yes White City Grand Prix Final(83 I think) run-off for first Nielsen from the gate but Sigalos wins from the back Great Stuff
  17. Reached World under-21 semis in 1999 (finishing 10th, between Josef Franc and Lukas Dryml) Then disappeaered until this season!
  18. You've been reading my posts haven't you http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...ndpost&p=424936
  19. Spot on. People are writing off Nicholls, yet Scotty was averaging over six in the Elite league when he was the age that Wright, Kennett and King now are. All three are talented but there is no evidence yet that any of them are as good as Scott Nicholls, let alone good enough to win a GP. Even Lee Richardson who is often cited as the example of a late developer was averaging 9.6 in the Premier League when he was the same age as Wright/King/Kennett People underestimate just how special a future world champion has to be
  20. A better bet for Russian speedway is: http://www.russpeedway.ru/ and the links page will lead you to other sites: http://www.russpeedway.ru/index.php?module...c=display&pid=1
  21. Came across this on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...6379205-6755020 A new book from Norbold. So Norbs tell us what's in it And yes I'll be ordering a copy.
  22. Long Eaton published their crowds in the programme for a couple of years in the mid ninties - average figure was 8-900 which I would say was accurate (John Turner wasn't the kind of promoter to diddle the taxman) Coincidentially I'm currently reading the history of Ipswich speedway (Barber & Feakes) which quotes crowds in 1954 of: 19,029 v Glasgow White City and 19,184 v Norwich and this was a division 2 track at a time of decline in speedway!
