6.10.71 Poole v Reading I have a completed programme which shows the following: There were 3 reserve substitutions: Ht3: Nigel Boocock fell bringing down Dag Lovaas who was unable to make the rerun. Curtis replaced him coming second Ht 12 Curtis replaced Mudge coming second Ht 13 May replaced Leigh coming last. Result of ht 2: Cake, Curtis, May, Cook. Racers scorechart: Michanek 11(4), Curtis 11+1(5), Lovaas 6(3), Bell 5+1(4), May 2+2(4), Mudge 2+1(3), Leigh 1+1(3)
  2. I hardly think that preventing them use Charles Wright was a move designed to gift Buxton the title. I do hope that Buxton win, they are a great club and have had a fantastically entertaining team this year. When I went to their opening meeting I never imagined that they'd still be going strong 16 years later. However if they do win it will be a bit of a hollow victory as a one legged final is hardly a level playing field. It really is a shame because there have been some great positives for third tier speedway this year until it all fell apart at the end(and it's about organisation, not the weather) Reasons to be cheerful: :D The presence of Dudley has been a huge boost, the atmosphere at their meetings has been brilliant the very close three way battle for the league between Dudley, Buxton and Newport British Under 18 Championship - a superb meeting Jason Garrity
  3. Carl Moorcraft and Andrew Swales Ht 6 R Harrison, J Birkenshaw, O Allen, K Bagshaw 66.1 (Harrison was a reserve replacement for Andrew Moore) Incidentally this match was Russell (aka Rusty) Harrison's competetive debut in the UK
  4. :) Lot's of smiles down Reading way JK looked a bit special when we first saw him in 2003, and he has had a fantastic year this year - just hope 2011 isn't an anti-climax
  5. An enjoyable day of nostalgia - unexpected bonus was a visit from Reg Fearman, who just popped in but stayed for hours.
  6. I got a phone call tonight from a speedway friend, and in passing I mentioned that it was a shame that I wouldn't see him at the NLRC on Saturday. He was unaware that it had been cancelled, and would of course be none the wiser if he relied on Speedway Star. (..and he doesn't do the internet) Anyone care to estimate how many people will turn up on Saturday? And how many people have incurred non-refundable costs on train tickets or hotel rooms? Maybe we should get Gillet and Hicks to run British speedway
  7. Well I was planning to visit Rye and then onto Peterboro - but now I won't be going to either.
  8. In Poland both Richardson and Nicholls ride in League One (Richardson topped the averages, Nicholls was 5th just behind Danial Nermark) In Sweden Richardson averaged 6.73 (20th) and Nicholls recorded 5.19 (a miserable 51st). Incidentally, in Sweden Harris came in at a respectable 7.16 for 15th positon, but in Poland could only manage 15th in League One (below Peter Ljung)
  9. While I understand there will be a lobby for Woffinden I think it would be a travesty if he were picked ahead of Janusz. Look at the Polish and Swedish league stats: (from aktuellspeedway.se) Poland: Kolodziej 3rd on 9.09 (these are aves exc bonus, add in bonus and he overtakes Pedersen to finish second behind Gollob) Woffinden 43rd on 4.41 Sweden Kolodziej 3rd on 8.68 (second including bonus points) Woffinden 66th on 4.27 (below Ricky Kling, Kauko Nieminen, Kim Nilsson, Krzysztof Jablonski, Krzysztof Buczkowski and Tomasz Jedrzejak - maybe they should be in the GP?)
  10. When Drammen staged their League match, Elgane refused to ride and did not turn up. Due to planning regs the new silencers are used at Drammen and Elgane wouldn't use them. So I guess the reason is the same this time
  11. Yes I have(and I know Mr S Bear has on a number of issues too) and experience suggests that Ancient Mariner is right to be sceptical. There seems to sufficient evidence that there is a case to answer (as spelt out by Mr S Bear). It may not be in Newport's interest to look too closely at this but it is certainly in the interest of the rest of the sport and certainly in the interests of other young Australian riders. If the BSPA is shown not to police visa status effectively then a potential outcome is that the rules will be tightened by the UK Borders Agency and that future opportunities for us to see young Australians riding here will be reduced. However, if it does emerge that Mark Jones should not have ridden this season, I really think it is a bit late to start altering results of meetings that took place five months ago. (There are precedents, for example riders who are subsequently discovered to be under age haven't had their points removed from matches they rode in.)
  12. And the 2010 result can now be added to the list 1 Rasmus Jensen 28 2 Kenni Nissen 25 3 Jesper Schaff 23 4 Andreas Lyager 21 (aged just 12!) 5 Anders Thomsen 20 6 Mark F Pedersen 18 Held over two meetings, the second being at Vejlby this`afternoon
  13. An excellent evening's entertainment. Firstly it was a superb result for Brendan Johnson - on his post injury form he wasn't one of last night's favourites, but he took his opportunity in both the semi and final off the least favoured gate. Hopefully this will boost his confidence and we will see more of the promise that he showed before his injury. I'm really pleased for him and his family who have been through so much in the last 12 months. The whole meeting was really close. After 16 heats just one point separated the top 7 riders. And not a single race stopped as a result of a fall. The quality of the racing was excellent and unlike Super 7 events the presentation was excellent with 24 races completed by 9.45pm. Heats 15 and 16 were among the best races I've seen this year. Although I don't think there were any future world champions on show but there were plenty of riders with the potential to become part of the solid platform of home grown riders that British speedway needs - not just the riders that finished at the top of the field but also some of the ones lower down the order like Oliver Rayson and Darryl Ritchings.

  15. I hope Richard Franklin is OK - apart from the need for the ambulance on three occasions this was a fabulous meeting (best I've been to this season - and it contained the best race I've seen this season, with not a Grand Prix star in sight) Best of all was the atmosphere - at so many meetings there is little but polite applause - last night it was great to watch people really enjoying their speedway. And it was great to see the Cradley fans passion rewarded with a last gasp victory. It was hard on Lynn with Lambert (or at least his bike) off colour and Lewis Kerr only able to manage two rides; but the combination of vintage Armstrong, impressive Bekker and some great team spirit saw the Heathens through. PS Before last night my best meeting of the season was Rye House v Dudley - seems to be a pattern developing, I must see more of the Heathens
  16. That will come as news to Ronnie Moore
  17. Exhausting - 8 reruns and 4 races awarded Rye 48 Hughes 14, Owen 11+1, Hart (G) 8+1, Morley 7+2. Hazelden 4+1, Strudwick 3+2, Stokes (no8) 1 Buxton 41 Allott 11, Branford 8+2, Morris 6+1, Andersen (G) 6, Widman 5, Garrity 4+1, Andrews 1 Should have been an easy win on paper for the Cobras, but never more than 3 points in it until Cobras got a 5-1 in ht 13. A drawn heat in the next one sealed the win for the Cobras and Hughes's win in the last heat (after Hart fell) gave them the third match point. Allott (ht 9), Hughes (ht 11) and Brandford (ht 12) all won races from the back. Hughes dropped a single point to Allott, Owen looked sharpe. Allott shone, while the three Aussies were all a bit unstable and inconsistent. Garrity had an eventful night including two falls, a tape and a two minute exclusion.
  18. Yes it's an irritation, but a very minor one. After all don't most televised sports suffer similarly? For example we have continually had commentators and pundits asserting that England are a world class football team with a realistic chance of winning the world cup
  19. Interesting to see some of the names from mini-zuzel coming through (following in Szymon Wozniak's tyretracks). Will there be a meeting for new licence holders like last year's Hopes of Polish speedway?
  20. Result from Drammen: Drammen 34 (LD Gunnestad 15, Fuglerud 10, T Gunnestad 9) Riska 28 (Raugstad 12, Herold 8, Skjaeveland 8) Kristiansand 19 (Solberg 10, Hansen 9) Elgane 0 Elgane refused to compete as the Drammen track requires new regulation silencers to be used. Riska led after 9 heats, but Drammen finished strongly not dropping a point in the closing heats. Only 3 of the 15 heats had four riders, five races involved unopposed 5-nils against Elgane. The lowlight of the meeting was heat 9 when Espen Hansen rode unopposed against Elgane, fell off on the second bend, damaged his machine and limped home in a winning time of four minutes! edit PS The official result shows a couple of differences : Drammen 34, Riska 27, Kristiansand 17
  21. Well I found Lunner. Result: Elgane 32 (M Bjerk 11, I Bjerk 11, R Eklof 10) Drammen 24 (LD Gunnestad 13, T Gunnestad 8, Fuglerud 3) Riska 20 (Raugstad 10, Herold 6, Sjeevland 4) Kristiansand 13 (Solberg 9, Fossberg 4) and a detailed map is now on the Drammen site (thanks) so I should catch today's round too.
  22. 1. Divisjon 15.05.10 - Runde 1, Elgane 16.05.10 - Runde 2, Riska 29.05.10 - Runde 3, Oslo 30.05.10 - Runde 4, Drammen 11.09.10 - Runde 5, Kristiansand 2. Divisjon 24.04.10 - Runde 1, Riska 22.05.10 - Runde 2, Drammen 23.05.10 - Runde 3, Kongsberg 05.06.10 - Runde 4, Mjosa 12.06.10 - Runde 5, Oslo I see Elgane won the first round on 15 May. see http://www.nmkdrammen.com/speedway-2010/Res%20liga%2015%2005%2010%20Elgane.pdf Now it so happens I'm in Oslo on 29th-30th May. Can anyone help me with any of the following: confirming the fixtures are on, the starting times and exact location of the stadiums. [Lanzilla are you out there?]
  23. Southern TV (or possibly Channel 4) did one centering on Reading and Phil Morris about ten years ago
  24. None - I have another engagement that clashes with the Cardiff GP and although I went to seven meetings abroad last year (on three different continents) Grand Prixs are not my preference. (I haven't been to one since Linkopping in 96)
