  1. And tonight he was even more impressive with 16 in the Supaliga at Grindsted, including a victory over Kenneth Bjerre Visitors Holstebro won 42-41 in a last heat decider. Needing a 3-all in ht 14 Andersen and Patrick Norgaard were heading for a 5-1 when third placed Henning Bager fell on the last bend of lap 3. Bjerre (who was last at the time of the stoppage won the rerun, thus depriving Norregard and Andersen of their second victories over Bjerre. [Norgaard beat Bjerre from the back earlier in the meeting] While Bjerre top scored it was Bager who impressed most for the home team. But Kroner was truly woeful. Andersen and Norgaard got 16 each leaving very little required of the remaining riders, which was just as well as Graversen and Gapinski [apparently an 'A' grade rider] made very modest contributions. Have to say Jonas Andersen had escaped my notice previously (I see that he rode in a couple of Vikings fixtures on British tracks). Looked very professional - good from the back on Saturday and sharp from the gate tonight. He's 18, and this was his first double figure score in the Supaliga, while Saturday's was his first maximum in Div 1 (and neither on tracks he's ridden regularly)
  2. The C & D grade riders weren't really competetive. After a very warm day in denmark the track was heavily watered and this may have disadvantaged some of the less experienced riders. Saw Michelsen again today - he got 10 from 4 as Midtjyllands won at Vojens in a Div 1 match. Vojens' Jonas B Andersen was the star with a 15 point max - including 3 wins from the back. MSM 46 Vojens 43 Outrup 19 Holstebro 12
  3. 52-33 to Outrup ..rather dull and one sided (and slow) meeting Mads Korneliussen got a maximum (16+2), Iversen 16+1, and Kenni Larsen (13+3) rather flattened the opposition. Hansen and and Monberg top scored for the visitors and Jablonski had engine problems (including an ef while leading). Toft was best of the youngsters
  4. As Bob says the meeting did warm up as it went on. In the early heats there was little action to report. Basically Auty won all of his first three races from the back (will he ever learn to gate) and that was about it. Woffy won all his races by a full straight (he didn't race against anyone above PL reserve standard until heat 18!). As the end of the qualifying heats approached racing improved. Highlight was Ht 16 when Jason Garrity went from last to first, but Ht 17 (Ashley Morris third coming off the final bend, but ends in a photo finish for first) and ht 20 (Jamie Pickard beats Kyle Howarth from the back after a hard fought race) are also worth a mention. Crowd a bit thin, meeting a bit long (10.28pm finish) Woffy - no competition (In 1990 the top 3 was: Screen, Loram Louis) Worrall - very mature display given his experience, very steady Haines - made to look better than he was due to the standard of the field (lost to Starke, Garrity and headed by Owen for a lap) Auty - deserved to be runner-up Howarth - looked good (was 3rd when he fell in semi) Garrity - entertaining, improved as the night wore on, fell on 1st bend in semi after a good gate Starke - looked very confident coming out of the bends on the wide outside (not an easy thing to do at Arena), excellent second bend in ht 9 to wizz past Haines Morris - would have been in semis had he got the verdict in ht 17 Hart - EF on line in opening heat and a fall in ht 9 messed up his night. Still could of reached the semis if he'd got the best of the 3-way battle in ht 17 Owen - very lively, a fall in ht4 when leading Haines cost him a semi spot Bob C - worked overtime to rescue the updates - hero of the night
  5. He appealed against his 5 year ban. The appeal tribunal concluded he was innocent of the original offence, and cut his ban to one year  No wonder Lee felt the authorities were out to get him. The reason he was out for so long is that he didn't pay the associated fine, and the ban only started running once the fine was paid (I think the ban was commuted after the fine was paid in order to expedite his return)
  6. Officially there is no such thing as an engine failure. The Rule book provides for the following programme markings: 20. Appendix E. Result Sheet / Programme Marking non-finishers F for a fall FD for a fall and disqualification from the re-run of the Heat FN for a fall and non-starter in the re-run of the Heat R for a retirement Disqualifications E for a Starting Gate offence EH where handicap is used for a Starting Offence N2 for exceeding the "two minute" allowance XD for Dangerous or Foul Riding XO for other reasons (not considered Dangerous or Foul Riding) rider replaced RR when a Rider Replacement is used N when a Reserve Replacement is used NS When a Team Member or Reserve is not replaced
  7. Gary O'Hare - an inspiration to pie-eaters eveywhere Pairs final was a genuinely good race, but otherwise this was an opportunity to meet and chew the fat over the winter's events
  8. Good to hear something positive. :D Hope the court case has a satisfactory outcome. So it looks like it was all about Steve Ribbons after all.
  9. Series Result: John Cook 150 Larry Ross 113 Ivan Mauger 101 Bobby Schwartz 82 Simon Wigg 82 Neil Evitts 69 Juha Moksunen 67 Ollie Tyrvanien 51 Einar Kyllingstad 49 Grzeg Dzikowski 20 Mitch Shirra 12 Ryzsard Franczyszyn 10 David Bargh 7 Barry Ayres 7 Kym Mauger 6 (Source Speedway Star 15.2.86)
  10. Jay Herne for Newport (along with James White-Williams and Tom Young?) http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.9944
  11. Surely the answer is 12 (or it could be any other number you chose) match rolling averages. A rider who starts on an assessed average and has not ridden 12 matches will be given a GSA based in part on actual performance and part on his assessed averages. For example: A McCoy is given a 5 point assessed average. After 4 matches he has scored 5 points from 13 rides. Add the notional 40 (8 matches @ 5 points) from 32 rides (8 matches @ 4 rides per match) and you have 45 points from 45 rides for a GSA of 4. In this example a rider who is struggling and might have started in the main body of the team would get the chance to drop down to reserve much earlier than under the current system. [nb I'd consider using different rules for the close season as I'd be worried about too many riders finishing the season with 12 poor scores in order to give themselves a more attractive average for team building. I'd also be interested in what our Swedish contributors experiences of the use of rolling averages in the Elitserien is]
  12. Wouldn't that mean that Ipswich and Newcastle would be over the PL team building limit?
  13. Is there a date and venue for the Swedish Championship weekend?
  14. There were four reserve changes: Ht8 (Read): Davies for Tabet Ht 8 (BV): Eyre for Owen Ht 10 (Read): Davies for Tabet Ht 12 (BV): Eyre for Bailey So last places were: 1 Tabet 2 Leigh 3 Jackson 4 Owen 5 Jackson 6 Waplington (Ex) 7 Moulin 8 Leigh (fell) 9 Waplington 10 Bailey (fell) 11 Moss 12 Waplington (fell) 13 Jackson (fell)
  15. From the American speedway discussion group: The schedule is; April 7th TBA April 9th - Rye House Cobra's April 10th - Newcastle Versus 'Team Viking' (Scandanavian Dream Team) April 12th - Dudley Heathens (at Wolverhampton) April 15th - Lakeside April 16th - Stoke April 17th TBA
  16. No - it's basic statistical theory. The smaller the sample the more it is prone to sampling error. i.e With just 90 responses there is no guarantee that the ones you have received are representative. [And that's before we get onto problems with self-selecting samples]
  17. Statistical nonsense Assuming the yes/no vote is a simple binomial distribution with a 50% probability of a yes vote, the standard error of a sample size of 90 would be about 5 and therefore to be statistically significant (at the 5% level i.e 1.96 SEs above the assumed mean of 45/45) would require the vote to be at least 54-36 in one direction or the other before you could draw any conclusion from such a small sample. PS A completely fraudulent question anyway as we don't know what the basis of the legal action(s?) is. Suggest you stop stirring
  18. Can I record my thanks to f-s-p for his help with this
  19. Poole v Reading Ht 1 Simmons, Davis, Eide, Kennedy(fell) 71.1 R v Overseas Select Guests were: 2. Jim McMillan 5-8-1 5. Steen Mastrup 5-6-1 Halifax v Reading Guests were: Ian Westwell (a H'fax jnr) 4-0-0 Malc Shakespeare 2-0-0 (incidentally this match was Reading's biggest losing margin in their entire 40 year history) Reading v Leicester: 56-22 is a typo, the correct score is 52-26
  20. In the past I've always found 'svenska Speedwayresultat' a tremendously useful site - particularly for 80cc speedway - but it has been unavailable this year. I've tracked down the archive for 2000-08 which now sits on speedway.nu, but is there anywhere I can find the 2010 results, league tables averages etc for Swedish 80cc speedway
  21. 20 heats followed by top 4 into grand final (no semi finals) - result as per your last post
  22. I agree with the general tenor of your comment, and why would the Stars want to give up a local derby against Ipswich? Russia's league collapsed because they didn't have any restrictions on team strengths - as a result the two teams that had owners with deep pockets priced their opponents out of the league. In 2009 the Russian league ran with three teams and no foreigners, this year it expanded to five teams and no foreigners (but three of the teams are just making the numbers up) PS Please don't remind me about the Bu**dogs, it's still too painful
  23. Reading v Wimbledon programme has Norman Hunter @ no 1 for Wimbledon and I have Wtney Mann prog too which has George at no 15
  24. Well the 2009 Polish Golden Helmet was staged in 2010, so why not stage the 2010 NL Fours Final next April? Let's see if we can keep this saga going
