  1. So presumably you have the final score as 47-43 to GB. The BSPA website (and speedway updates) have 46-44
  2. Oct 8 @ Leicester Team USA 20 Russell Green 3-2-2 7 Chris Thomas 0-0-2-0 2 Rocco Scopellite 3-3-3 9 Tuff Mc Bride 2-R 2 Long Eaton 16 Chris Widman 2-2-3 7 Liam Rumsey 1-1-1 3 Jamie Dixon 0-1-0 1 Lee Geary 1-3-1 5
  3. Correct - it has now been officially acknowledged that Graversen's time was pure fiction. Record holder is now Kauko Nieminen 61.50 20 August v Glasgow Incidentally Ryan Fisher set the fastest time recorded by a visitor tonight at 61.59
  4. Ten riders were announced tonight Nieminen Karlsson Ashworth Parker Wethers Ostergaard Fisher Proctor Neath +1 other whose name escapes me now
  5. Let's see Mildenhall fans think Lambert was out of order and the prime cause of the mayhem Stoke fans say Mildenhall fans out of order As a neutral I'd say the all four back decision was correct. Heeps and Lambert collided entering the second bend and that is what sent Lambert across the track not some perverse desire to spear Hargreaves. Had Christina been tougher with previous first bend decisions then an exclusion for Lambert would probably have been fair. When a rider limps back to the pits after medical treatment I do expect a round of applause from the fans not the cry's of 'Cheat, Cheat, Cheat' And how did the Mildenhall fan who was 5 metres behind me during the race end up fighting in the pits two minutes later?
  6. He's being discussed here: http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=62628&st=45
  7. He looked on the pace at Birmingham last Thursday in Phil's farewell. I'd certainly consider him worth a punt in the PL (assuming a 5pt GSA)
  8. Grigori Laguta is the highest ranked non-GP rider in the Swedish Elitiserien averages and second highest (to Ryan Sullivan) in the Polish Extraleague. The obvious picks for next year would appear to be (the riders currently 9th and 10th in the GP standings (currently Lindgren and Nikki Pedersen) plus Grigory Laguta and Darcy Ward (whose international performances, as well as his Swedish and British league averages justify selection)
  9. Speedway Star shows a run-off for the bonus in which Adams (Swin) beat Cox (Poole)

  11. cough cough - don't think we need to bother with the lottery tickets Looks like a long afternoon
  12. A tremendous advert for NL speedway (except for those nervous minutes while Stefan Nielsen was on the track being treated). One of the pleasures of watching Mildenhall at the moment is you can never be sure who is going to score the points All 13 riders looked determined and produced plenty of exciting racing. PhilK has pretty much summed it up, although I'd add that Adam Wrathall would have scored more had he been sharper at the gate - he looked very competitive after the first two bends. A good crowd, and a warm sunny afternoon. I thought Dan Holt had a difficult afternoon - and while I doubt if anyone will agree 100% with his decisions I don't think he got anything manifestly wrong.
  13. There were a lot: Liverpool, Stoke, Middlesbough, Bradford (Odsal & Greenfields), Newport, Nelson, Wolves (to 80 - his longest association), Hackney, Crayford, Edinburgh (his last as promoter - 1977-81), Newcastle, Sunderland, Doncaster, Leicester (and also bangers at many tracks) But are there any others? Did he promote the 1959 Cradley meeting? Did he have an interest in Halifax in 1965 (I thought that this was solely a Reg Fearman track, as it opened long after their falling out in 1963 - but Eric Boothroyd suggests otherwise in a Star article [10 Jan 2009]) I believe his last involvement in the sport was as 'advisor' to Chris Roynon;s 1984 Barrow venture

  15. None whatsoever - not the remotest chance ...oh wait a minute: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PHIL Morris has secured another big name for his Farewell meeting at Birmingham on September 1, with Rory Schlein agreeing to join the star-studded line-up The Belle Vue rider has been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks and Morris was naturally delighted when the Australian accepted his invitation to ride on his big night at the Perry Barr Stadium. He said: "Rory is a rider who I think is very underrated. “His performance for Belle Vue at Birmingham in the live Sky Sports meeting this week, shows just how good a rider he is." Schlein joins fellow countryman Jason Crump in an all-star line up of British and Overseas riders. 18. Of course it will be re-run - just like last year's NL Fours (maybe they could award that to Leicester too )
  19. There are other riders that could have been picked (or I suspect more to the point willing to ride) - such as Garrity, Howarth and the Worralls, but they are not markedly better than the riders who did ride. Had they been there the result would have been just the same. It is notable that the one British rider who looked competitive was Brendan Johnson. On current form he would not be most people's pick for the team, but his past experience on the continent has clearly left him better prepared than his team mates. There are three basic problems: 1) speedway is now such a niche sport that the supply of youngsters wanting to try the sport is negligible 2) not enough access to tracks to practice on 3) cost As for solutions it is going to be require lots of effort (and money) over a long time. I fear we may be competing with Germany and the Ukraine in the World Cup qualifying rounds in a few years time.
  20. Ht 9 Franklin replaced Perry Ht 13 Perry replaced Jacobs (TS) Ht 16 Franklin replaced Morris Although it appears that a Brit never beat a Swede or Dane unless there was a fall or engine failure Brendan was ahead of Palovaraa when he pulled up (ht11) and second ahead of Nissen in ht 8 before the race was stopped. Very nice stadium Crowd around 300 Had`a brief chat with Per Jonsson who was managing Swedish team
  21. I can post the scores when I get back from the meeting, but result will probably be on here by then: http://www.aktuellspeedway.se/
  22. Those dates should read Apr 28 and May 5 in my reply
  23. There were no meetings Apr 25: attempts to book an NL team for a challenge fell through and the promoters didn't fancy a meaningless open meeting May 2: team away at Middlesbrough on Thursday and Edinburgh Saturday, making a trip back to Plymouth on Friday an unreasonable undertaking (Source: Plymouth programme for May 12)
