New Breed Of 3 Pointers For 2012 Season?
arnieg replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
I see King's Lynn have named a new 3 pointer: Lewis Rose Not a name I'm familiar with, can anyone tell me a little bit about him? -
word for word what I was going to type

Yes I'd second that. The Leicester event was an extremely enjoyable afternoon. I don't think the matches against PL sides have worked, the American scorecharts have been too unbalanced (relying on Ryan Fisher and other talents brought in to enhance the team). Contrast that with the last heat decider against the GB U21 Select at Dudley. I'd like to see Jimmy Fishback again, and perhaps one more experienced rider like fast Eddie (maybe Buck Blair or Bart Bast). Judging by his performance at Perris on Saturday Russell Green has certainly benefited from visiting the UK and I'd certainly be trying to get him back along with Novratil, Scopellite and Starks. I wouldn't be averse to seeing Buman, Manzares or Ramirez again. I see that Max Ruml will be old enough to race at NL level next year, but I'd imagine he'd want some time to get used to 500cc machines in California before coming over here - so I'd imagine an Autumn 2012 or 2013 tour would suit him better But that's just what I'd like in an ideal world - you could call it my 'Dream Team'

That's my understanding too. However they are very rare, and the only time I ever saw the 1993 annual on e-bay it went for £50 or thereabouts - so I still don't have one

Speedway Gp In Tatters !
arnieg replied to Midland Red's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
But if the FIM were to get more influence over the running of the main national leagues (and I have seen it suggested that they are angling for this) then what? -
Speedway Gp In Tatters !

A slightly Ango-centric view. Polish and Swedish form would put Grigori Laguta up there with Ward, but his absence from the World Cup must count against him (with some justification I think). I guess this is going to come down to politics, with BSI and the FIM sitting down together to try and work out how to compel the riders they want to compete in the GP -
Me too - a really enjoyable meeting. Michael Raines managed to stay on (just) to win both scratch and handicap mains. In the handicap main Raines and Chris Widman were wheel to wheel for 2 1/2 laps before Raines got the upper hand. Castro was indeed 100% entertainment and Dean Felton's efforts deserve a mention too. Scratch Consi (B Main): Castro*, Felton, McBride, Rumsey [Castro on 10 yds penalty for tape touching] Scratch Main: Raines, Bates, Scopellite, Andrews H'cap Main (6 lap): Raines(30), Widman(20), Castro(30), Buman(30)

I was there and I'm with you. I think heat 7 on updates is where the difference arises

So presumably you have the final score as 47-43 to GB. The BSPA website (and speedway updates) have 46-44

Mildenhall V Stoke - Ko Cup Final 1st Leg
arnieg replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
Let's see Mildenhall fans think Lambert was out of order and the prime cause of the mayhem Stoke fans say Mildenhall fans out of order As a neutral I'd say the all four back decision was correct. Heeps and Lambert collided entering the second bend and that is what sent Lambert across the track not some perverse desire to spear Hargreaves. Had Christina been tougher with previous first bend decisions then an exclusion for Lambert would probably have been fair. When a rider limps back to the pits after medical treatment I do expect a round of applause from the fans not the cry's of 'Cheat, Cheat, Cheat' And how did the Mildenhall fan who was 5 metres behind me during the race end up fighting in the pits two minutes later? -

Dutch & Belgian 2011 News
arnieg replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
He looked on the pace at Birmingham last Thursday in Phil's farewell. I'd certainly consider him worth a punt in the PL (assuming a 5pt GSA) -
Grigori Laguta is the highest ranked non-GP rider in the Swedish Elitiserien averages and second highest (to Ryan Sullivan) in the Polish Extraleague. The obvious picks for next year would appear to be (the riders currently 9th and 10th in the GP standings (currently Lindgren and Nikki Pedersen) plus Grigory Laguta and Darcy Ward (whose international performances, as well as his Swedish and British league averages justify selection)

cough cough - don't think we need to bother with the lottery tickets Looks like a long afternoon

A tremendous advert for NL speedway (except for those nervous minutes while Stefan Nielsen was on the track being treated). One of the pleasures of watching Mildenhall at the moment is you can never be sure who is going to score the points All 13 riders looked determined and produced plenty of exciting racing. PhilK has pretty much summed it up, although I'd add that Adam Wrathall would have scored more had he been sharper at the gate - he looked very competitive after the first two bends. A good crowd, and a warm sunny afternoon. I thought Dan Holt had a difficult afternoon - and while I doubt if anyone will agree 100% with his decisions I don't think he got anything manifestly wrong.

There were a lot: Liverpool, Stoke, Middlesbough, Bradford (Odsal & Greenfields), Newport, Nelson, Wolves (to 80 - his longest association), Hackney, Crayford, Edinburgh (his last as promoter - 1977-81), Newcastle, Sunderland, Doncaster, Leicester (and also bangers at many tracks) But are there any others? Did he promote the 1959 Cradley meeting? Did he have an interest in Halifax in 1965 (I thought that this was solely a Reg Fearman track, as it opened long after their falling out in 1963 - but Eric Boothroyd suggests otherwise in a Star article [10 Jan 2009]) I believe his last involvement in the sport was as 'advisor' to Chris Roynon;s 1984 Barrow venture
