Exhausting - 8 reruns and 4 races awarded Rye 48 Hughes 14, Owen 11+1, Hart (G) 8+1, Morley 7+2. Hazelden 4+1, Strudwick 3+2, Stokes (no8) 1 Buxton 41 Allott 11, Branford 8+2, Morris 6+1, Andersen (G) 6, Widman 5, Garrity 4+1, Andrews 1 Should have been an easy win on paper for the Cobras, but never more than 3 points in it until Cobras got a 5-1 in ht 13. A drawn heat in the next one sealed the win for the Cobras and Hughes's win in the last heat (after Hart fell) gave them the third match point. Allott (ht 9), Hughes (ht 11) and Brandford (ht 12) all won races from the back. Hughes dropped a single point to Allott, Owen looked sharpe. Allott shone, while the three Aussies were all a bit unstable and inconsistent. Garrity had an eventful night including two falls, a tape and a two minute exclusion.

Sack The Statto At Sky Sports
arnieg replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yes it's an irritation, but a very minor one. After all don't most televised sports suffer similarly? For example we have continually had commentators and pundits asserting that England are a world class football team with a realistic chance of winning the world cup  -
Interesting to see some of the names from mini-zuzel coming through (following in Szymon Wozniak's tyretracks). Will there be a meeting for new licence holders like last year's Hopes of Polish speedway?

Result from Drammen: Drammen 34 (LD Gunnestad 15, Fuglerud 10, T Gunnestad 9) Riska 28 (Raugstad 12, Herold 8, Skjaeveland 8) Kristiansand 19 (Solberg 10, Hansen 9) Elgane 0 Elgane refused to compete as the Drammen track requires new regulation silencers to be used. Riska led after 9 heats, but Drammen finished strongly not dropping a point in the closing heats. Only 3 of the 15 heats had four riders, five races involved unopposed 5-nils against Elgane. The lowlight of the meeting was heat 9 when Espen Hansen rode unopposed against Elgane, fell off on the second bend, damaged his machine and limped home in a winning time of four minutes! edit PS The official result shows a couple of differences : Drammen 34, Riska 27, Kristiansand 17

Well I found Lunner. Result: Elgane 32 (M Bjerk 11, I Bjerk 11, R Eklof 10) Drammen 24 (LD Gunnestad 13, T Gunnestad 8, Fuglerud 3) Riska 20 (Raugstad 10, Herold 6, Sjeevland 4) Kristiansand 13 (Solberg 9, Fossberg 4) and a detailed map is now on the Drammen site (thanks) so I should catch today's round too.

Divisjon 24.04.10 - Runde 1, Riska 22.05.10 - Runde 2, Drammen 23.05.10 - Runde 3, Kongsberg 05.06.10 - Runde 4, Mjosa 12.06.10 - Runde 5, Oslo I see Elgane won the first round on 15 May. see http://www.nmkdrammen.com/speedway-2010/Res%20liga%2015%2005%2010%20Elgane.pdf Now it so happens I'm in Oslo on 29th-30th May. Can anyone help me with any of the following: confirming the fixtures are on, the starting times and exact location of the stadiums. [Lanzilla are you out there?]

Southern TV (or possibly Channel 4) did one centering on Reading and Phil Morris about ten years ago

Scottish Wc Squad
arnieg replied to cheekycobra's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Given that joint Slovenian/Croatian teams and numerous scratch teams have participated in World Cup events I see no reason why not being directly affiliated to the FIM should prevent Scotland from entering the World Cup -
66 progs say red and yellow, so taken together with JoD's posting that seems to pin the change down to 1966
-
A quick look through my programme collection and reference to Philip Dalling's book establish that in 1963 the Archers came back with a green archer on a yellow background, but later this was changed to a red archer on yellow. So Nigel your 1965 ref is correct, and as Leicester closed after a series of open meetings in 1963 then Gemini's suggestion is highly plausible. So that would imply a change in 1964 from green to red.
-
Jim is still busily capturing more info - I have had several exchanges with him (principally heat details of Leicester meetings) and I'm sure it will appear eventually. One of the problems is that the more info you gather the more conflicting bits of info you have, and resolving those alternative pieces of evidence can be even more time consuming for the serious historian with a regard for accuracy.

Reading v Bristol 10/10/77 The missing point belongs to Tony Garrad who finished third in ht 2 ahead of Wilmott Reading v Belle Vue 25/9/77 The infamous Wassermann guest meeting.Hans had a meeting in Germany and Racers had Neil Middleditch as a guest. Hans missed his plane and was at Smallmead. BV objected to the use of a guest and while eveyone was arguing the rain arrived. Only one race was held. Jessup, Wilkinson, Humphreys*, C Turner 4-2 63.2 * reserve substitution for Middleditch who was not allowed to take the place of Wassermann Swindon v Reading 19/3/77 Abandoned after 4 heats: 1 Karlsson, Jessup, Ashby (M), Humphreys 4-2 72.4 2 Bouchard, Ashby(D), Bo Jansson, Taylor(G) (exc) 5-1 72.2 3 Andersson, McNeil, Bengt Jansson, Leigh 5-1 73.2 4 Kilby, Davis, Bouchard, Taylor 4-2 72.8 The Poole match was abandoned after 5 heats due to the death of Kevin Holden - but I don't have details to hand.

Former Tracks That Hosted World Championship Rounds

Whatever happened to Boras in Sweden? - I only know it as the venue for early World Pairs Finals -
Maybe one or more of us should write to Backtrack sumarising the deliberations on this thread

Russian stats are on irgiz.narod.ru (dated 14 October) http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?u=...en&ie=UTF-8 The stats on speedway.nu are without bonus points and exclude the play-offs. The aktuellspeedway stats contain several errors and include play-offs up to the Semi-finals, but not the final. I can provide a complete and more accurate list of Swedish Elitiserien averages (inc bonus pts) but I don't guarantee it is 100% accuarate

Afraid I don't have the details, but the Long Eaton round was rained-off and run on October 5th

Charity Race Norden For Sönke Petersen
arnieg replied to speedwayfriends's topic in International World of Speedway
Seriously injured at the beginning of the season, a promising German under 21 rider. I saw him ride as a 12/13? year old at Kings lynn a few years ago in the GB v Germany under 16 international and was very impressed. -
Time to bump this back to the top of the list weather forecast OK

World U21 Final 3rd October Gorican
arnieg replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
My first World Final too, but Olsen didn't break the tapes he fell in his first ride trying to pass Bernt Persson (I think) on the last lap Edit: I was wrong - it was Christer Lofqvist he was chasing, Olsen passed Persson earlier in the race
