Hemsley: King's Lynn A Race Track No More
arnieg replied to Leicester Lion's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
There was more entertainment in four sodden heats at Sittingbourne on monday than the average Leicester meeting. Don't think this statement warrants being taken seriously. -
Just started 2 rain, light at the moment but sky looks very threatening Now stopped

Speedway Champions League ?
arnieg replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
Can we correct this myth. Let's compare the bottom team in the Elite League - Leicester - with a typical Danish team: Munkebo (chosen because it is mid-table with a very stable line-up) At 1: Jason Doyle v Hans Andersen - good match, Doyle has a higher average than Andersen in Sweden, GB and Poland, but it's close in all three so let's say a tie At 2: Mads Korneliusssen v Kenni Larsen - pretty equal (Larsen has the higher average in Poland, but Mads wins in Sweden and Denmark) At 3: Krzys Buczkowski v Morten Risager - do I need to answer this one? At 4: Simon Stead v Kasper Lykke Nielsen - Stead out averages KLN by 3 points a match in the PL At 5: Nikolai Klindt v Jesper Scharff - 8.5 Klindt v 2.8 for Scharff in the DSL Conclusion: there are a lot of things better about the DSL, but team strengths isn't one of them. The Danes, like the Brits are way behind the big two leagues. -
I'd second the suggestion of the Golden Helmet weekend in Pardubice

Lydd Veterans Championship 2014 - Saturday 19th July
arnieg replied to Woodee's topic in Training Tracks / Amateur
unofficially (and I have been known to make the odd mistake (!)) 4 Valve: 1 Gary O'Hare 15 2 Dean Felton 14 3 Tim Mount 13 4 Dave Harvey 12 5 Lee Coleman 11 When Gary and Dean met, Gary touched the tapes, went off 10metres and passed Deanno on the line Laydowns 1 Rob Hollingworth 15 2 Paul Stone 13 3 Glyn Edwards 13 4 Mick Ridgway 10 5 Gary Ball 10 An EF while leading on the final lap cost James Bowles 3 points that would have given him 12 pts and 4th place. 2 valve 1 Chris Mackett 13 2 Ian Barney 12 3 Steve Cook 12 4 Derrick Keyes 10 Barney missed his first ride due to bike problems. Closest he came to dropping a point was when Graham Knowler led him for 3 laps before falling as Barney went under him. (note - no run-offs, I have assumed ties ranked by countback) -
Lydd Veterans Championship 2014 - Saturday 19th July

Spectacular displays of lightening behind bends 1 & 2, but we just got away with it. Saw two EL meetings last week, but Dean Felton v Gary O'Hare was better than any of the races in those two meetings. A good day out. -

Planned to make my Lydd debut today - but forecast looks rather unpromising. Hope the rain stays away -
Swindon V Leicester Thursday 17th July
arnieg replied to racers and royals's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Fraid not - PK had completed three rides so IRR was not available (17.9.1) -
So can Lakeside use a home guest for Bridger up to 7.05 (per GSAs) or only up to 6.80 (the correct figure)?

I think you are confused. Surely a thread titled best track in England should be in the PL section! If you are suggesting that a poor night's racing at Lynn makes the racing at Beaumont Park more acceptable then you are sadly deluded. And I think there are already several other threads where the subject is under discusssion........ ad nauseum. Insulting people who disagree with you does not constitute an argument.

How Can Sweden Afford To Pay The Top Riders

Yep that's the one - it's the only 0-0 I've witnessed
-
I'd say crowd was about average, but not the same people you'd see on a Saturday. Quite a few regulars were missing, and there were fewer neutrals and away fans than normal. Instead there were quite a few occasionals attracted by the tenner admission price. Hope the tense and for home fans sattisfying conclusion encourages them back. Feel a bit sorry for Eastie, on balance I think they deserved to win.

I'm sure that Birmingham's record will be deleted in the next day or two (sad face), but a more interesting question is what happens to GSAs. I would imagine that they will remain unchanged as there would be just too many problems in revising them - but it would be nice to know.
-
So if Birmingham's bond with the BSPA is insufficient to pay off amounts owed to riders will the Brummies outstanding share of SKY money go to: 1) pay remaining sums outstanding to 'speedway creditors' or 2) be shared out amongst other nine EL clubs?
-
Off the top of my head I can think of four other times: 1969 - Reading v Plymouth 1970 or 71 Rochdale v Workington (or was it Workington v Rochdale?) 1991 - Coventry v Middlesbrough 2009 - Coventry v Peterboro
-
There have been at least 4 nil-nil heats since 1965. I saw one of them: Cov v Middlesbrough heat 2 circa 1991

The Doubling-up Rule Next Season
arnieg replied to G the Bee's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Big difference from 20 years ago is that EL clubs no longer have weekly meetings - just 18 (14 last year) league matches. As a consequence if riders aren't riding abroad they must race in PL in order to get enough meetings. If doubling up is abolished or severely curtailed there could only be a handful of Brits in the EL. And the number of guests has been shocking this year. We need to return to the situation where two riders cover a double up spot. I'd also go back to one d/u per team in order to match supply and demand for d/u places. -
I hope so!!! Most of the supporters of clubs he has been involved with have been grateful for Tony Mole's involvement. I am sure all Brummie supporters would be happy to see his return. And the idea of coming in "on the cheap" seems pretty ludicrous. Firstly there's the matter of the outstanding debts which will by and large need to be covered to reestablish some goodwill, and secondly the losses generated for the remainder of the season will have to be covered. (Or do you think that TM is such a svengali that he can make Birmingham profitable overnight?) And just what is the value of Birmingham's licence? It seems to be no more than 'an entitlement to lose money' (a state of affairs that would continue in 2015 in the PL, although hopefully on a more manageable scale).

I thought that the riders were most likely to get paid as that is the purpose of the BSPA bond (along with any sums owed directly to the BSPA). However I saw a comment that the bond wasn't sufficient which suggests that the outstanding sums must be pretty huge. I suspect the main creditors will be the company bankers and the GRA, but they may well have personal guarantees in place from the Phillips's. In these situations it's the small suppliers (e.g. the programme printers, St. Johns Ambi) who are most likely to get nothing. Re riders contracts - they are very unlikely to be on the balance sheet. Accounting practice is to write off transfer/signing on fees in the year they are incurred. When we audited Leicester City FC the joke in the office was that the audit report drew attention to this policy: "players contracts are assigned a nil value and we concur with this value" I think the legal issue over ownership of riders is a red herring. If they are not assets (per Bosman) then there is nothing for the liquidators to realise. If they are then they become the property of the BSPA under the terms of their membership of the BSPA. Only situation I can see where this would be an issue is if a rider wants to go to club A, but BSPA then sells his contract to club B. Re accounts - I have seen plenty, but they are all 30 years or more old, as before the mid 80s the filing requirements for small/medium sized companies did not exempt them from filing profit & loss accounts. I also acted for a promoter and he lost money, even when his team won the league (and before the cynics among you suggest that you should add back suppressed takings to get a true picture the promoter in question was one of the most honest people I've met). I think there was a good article in Speedway Star that included detailed financial information for Wimbledon circa 2004.

As I read it It looks like Kyle was disqualified. If so then the best three riders in the meeting came 6th, 7th and 8th!!
