Coventry V Leicester 20 March Emb 2nd Leg
arnieg replied to TMW's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I agree that it should be cheaper...if you can get the riders to ride for less! -
Exciting kiosks! - you get easily excited in Swindon!!! (Whatever happened to Burnt Kiosk our Swedish number one?)

At Rory Schlein meeting. Riders presented with a bottle of rum each at start. Presenter to Chris Holder: "bet you'll be looking forward to drinking that?" Holder's response: " nah mate I don't drink"

Ah memories If only someone had written a book about it

But nobody remembers who won the silver medal for pedantry!

You can't blame the council, they made a site (Island Road) available, and granted Stadia UK planning consent (the so called "racino"). But Stadia UK never built anything... sounds familiar? However the great tragedy is that some time in the 1990s Bill Dore/Pat Bliss surrender the 99 year originally granted to Reg Fearman.

As a reader of Speedway Star I'd rather read something other than made up news. That's what a lot of clubs do, and I don't see how producing a "what Tony Atkin has for breakfast" type story would be a good use of Jayne's time.

Rob Lambert Our Next British Hope?
arnieg replied to sommelier's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
And don't forget SCB, he provided those FACTS that supported the argument. Oh and me too because I also recall Risager was very highly rated. Do you see a pattern emerging? -
Shocking indictment of British speedway - all those foreign winners!
-
He was a late change written into the programme, so maybe it is a similar name ( e.g. Wilshire)

i think you are right, and that it was: The National Press Trophy at Wimbledon 23 July 1967

Best example I can think of is Andy Smith 2002 Grand Prix regular 2003 EL rider - Oxford 2004 EL rider - Swindon ..but still managed to make a Conference League appearance for Oxford in 2003!

When I first went I thought it was a great racing track, but in my view the advent of 4 valves moved the racing line out and effectively made the track narrower and more dangerous.

complete list here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009y2z1/segments and Ivan Mauger chose: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009ndg9/segments Not exactly the most contemporary of choices - think I prefer Briggo's to Ivan's

What The Visa Issues Could Mean For Teams.
arnieg replied to doners1234's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Most speedway takes part as part of mixed meetings, with local promoters running to their own agendas. There are only a handful of tracks that have regular speedway and they are a long way apart. Pinjar Park (Perth) is a mere 1700 miles from the next nearest track (Gilman). Mildura is in a small town (pop 30,000) that is more than 200 miles from any settlement of over 5,000. New South Wales/Queensland have a number of tracks that seem more oriented towards training youngsters (see the Heffernan Motor Series website). -
Or "The Hangover 4" :o
-
However the nature of internet polls is they tend to under represent older people - so it is quite possible that the actual age profile of speedway fans is even older than shown by this poll. From my attendance at a wide variety of tracks I'd guess the age profile is not far off but the gender split under represents women.
-
Not unique though - anyone remember the 1963 Great Britain v USSR series?
-
And hurrah for journeymen - without them there would be a lot of gaps in a lot of teams.

Think that 7 was correct - he had been riding in the Elitserien for four (yes four) years. Palovaraa wasn't a bad signing on paper... ...but on track, well ..not so impressive.
