  1. Is this based on actual intelligence or has the journo just read this thread and summarised every rider suggested?
  2. I think we all know from experience what the answer to that one will be
  3. Yes try Football. First Premiership match Aug 8, fixtures published 17 June. That is less than two months. There are other complications you've overlooked: I) two tracks have changed race day II) Polish League One fixtures are still to be announced (they only decided on the composition of the league last week - at least the PL lineup has been known for two months) III) There is Euro16 footy and the olympics, which clubs will want to work round. Question when were the fixtures for July 1964 released?
  4. The NL is much better for their presence. Many have quite respectable careers and provide plenty of entertainment along the way. And remove all those riders and I suspect the lowering of standards would have an adverse impact on attendances. There are still several team places available for three pointers and not a long list of NL ready riders to fill them.
  5. Yes but Britain has 27 tracks staging at least ten meetings per season. Australia probably has a handful of tracks (probably no more than four or five) that stage more than half a dozen meetings a year.
  6. I found huge discrepancies between the Speedway Star and Reading Evening Post descriptions of Geoff Curtis's final meeting. I went to Ross Garrigan and got a third version almost entirely at odds with the other two. I took Ross's account for three reasons: 1) he's a well regarded speedway historian 2) generated contemporaneously; and 3) located physically close to the event. I'd also endorse norbold's comments about the recollections of the central protagonists not being the most reliable.
  7. Polish Extraliga averages in 2015 show that he had a better average than: Chris Holder Matej Zagar Peter Kildemand Neils-Kristian Iversen Jason Doyle I think that conclusively confirms your view.
  8. So are we basically saying that Rawicz and Opole can't afford to field competitive teams so they are being allowed to compete because PZM need the teams but aren't allowed to ride away because they would be thrashed and be bad box office for the other tracks.
  9. Three times last season - although the other two were just one heat short Just one heat lost in 2014 (v Cradley) Just once in 2013 - 2 heats lost v Scunthorpe That's 7 heats lost in total due to curfew over 3 seasons
  10. Well done - in 2011. Although it wasn't his finest hour. They ran the first 15 heats in 45 minutes! and RA was one of several riders who was caught by suprise and missed his first ride. In his third and final heat the evil ref (one Josh Larsen) excluded him for tape touching so in the end he completed just four laps.
  11. I've just found an old bit of paper (21 years old) on which I worked out who wpuld be World Champion if you took the last 3 years world final scores and added them up. (i think Amsterdam has been halved to make it comparable with other years. 1948-51 Jack Parker 1952 Freddie Williams 1953-4 Jack Young 1955-56 Ronnie Moore 1957-63 Ove Fundin 1964-67 Barry Briggs 1968-79 Ivan Mauger 1980-81 Michael Lee 1982 Bruce Penhall 1983 Kenny Carter 1984 Hans Nielsen !985 Erik Gundersen 1986-91 Hans Nielsen 1992 Per Jonsson 1993 Sam Ermolenko there were 4 ties (highest position in that year's final was the tiebreaker) 1959 Briggs tied with Fundin In 1973/77/79 Mauger tied with Olsen, Peter Collins and Olsen again Collins was runner-up three years in a row (76-78) Plechanov, Michanek, Jessup and Tatum all had two seasons in a row as number 2 without ever being number one.
  12. You may be right about Kelsey, but not the one I was thinking of
  13. There is also a claim for sayfutdinov over this period. i'd suggest the list stops with Crump and the last couple of years can't be determined until we have a bit more hindsight.
  14. PERRIS WINTER OLYMPIQUE JANUARY 16TH latest entry list and news 5 Max Ruml 7 Novratil 10 Geist 45 Galvin 48 Talkington 60 Clark 90 Strudwick 109 Nermarnik 111 Dillon Ruml 122 Siegel 140 Kurtis Hamill 150 Barry 153 Moreau 155 Dalbey 163 Davis 170 Perrault (match race only) 211 Brown 215 Willis 277 Rishton 220 Bryant 222 Leedy 227 Whitcomb 245 Fuson 246 Barrett 266 Jade 273 Gayle 290 Hartke 293 Valdez 345 Richards 351 Bennett Only the first five plus Dillon Ruml could really be described as Division One riders (although I would imagine Kurtis Hamill will progress to D1 fairly quickly) Question: which current Eastbourne rider has ridden at Perris?
  15. assuming riders are still being paid per point and that stars get more per point then the current race formula means paying (just as an example): Lindgren 7 points, Thorsell 7 points Revert to the old formula and you pay Lindgren 9 and Thorsell 5 which will cost more.
  16. Don't think Snow is of the requisite quality and while Nicol looks to have potential he's not yet 18 and would struggle to reach a decent average and would then be unlikely to get a permit for 2017.
  17. Only credible possibility on that front is Max Ruml
  18. Looking at the lineup I'd be amazed if he finished in the top three, even though there are only half a dozen Division One standard riders competing Ed Kennett rode in the equivalent meeting last year and finished fourth.
  19. Rejoice rejoice, they'll be dancing in the streets of Leicester
  20. Key to success is building a team of riders who are likely to improve. so here is how they did in 2015. (starting Green Sheet to Final Green Sheet) All the biggest increases came from riders starting on assessed averages: 1 Zach Wajtknecht +6.51 2 Bradley Wilson-Dean +4.83 3 Ellis Perks +4.14 4 Daniel Spiller +3.63 5 George Wood +2.90 6 Connor Dwyer +2.44 Of those who started the season with real averages the biggest improvers were: 1 Danny Ayres +2.58 2 Rob Shuttleworth +2.48 3 Kyle Hughes +2.45 (on 2013 average) 4 Rob Blacklock + 2.29 5 Martin Knuckey +2.23 6 Matt Williamson +2.09 There were very few riders who decreased their average (due to the low starting limit). The worse performers were: 1 Jake Knight -1.62 (on 2013 average) 2 Connor Coles -1.04 3 Dan Halsey -0.99 Credit to Coventry Storm - all of their starting top six increased their averages by at least a point.
  21. And you would expect 2016 Danny Ayres and 2016 James Shanes to be improvements on their 2015 counterparts. PS Of all the riders who started the 2015 NL season with a real average Danny Ayres produced the biggest increase in GSA of any rider in the league.
  22. Never mind that was he on the grassy knoll in Dallas? P.S. Was that John Hyam I saw in the bookstore depository?
  23. 2002 - i.e. the same as the one in the wiki reference!
  24. Last year David Speight came back after nine years out. And despite never reaching a six point average in his previous CL career averaged a respectable 4.69 in 2015. Clifton's comeback may not work, but if it does there is potentially a huge upside.
  25. Although amusingly if you look at wikipedia it claims its source is Rob Bamford's book - which can't be true as that references Crutcher not Westerburg!!
