  1. I can only see eight riders with averages higher than Nilsson who are likely to be riding in the PL so I guess that makes him number one! Kylmo will probably be second heat leader, leaving Lions looking for a third heat leader and two reserves. At this stage choices are limited so the best that Leicester can hope for is a competitive team. Will they get one? The jury is out.
  2. Yes Claes Jensen of Poole tops (or should that be bottoms?) the list by a lap or more. Next lowest are Jan Gravningen (Halifax) who had a couple of respectable seasons at Birmingham later on and Peter Prinsloo (Wembley) who was clearly talented but too inexperienced and went on to become quite a popular rider with his later clubs in the UK. Hnidak and Siggy Pedersen are also on the list. The others you mention include several that I recall but none of them stuck around long enough (Swindon's Leonard Raba was another example - 5 matches no points). Perhaps the epitome of this thread was Jerzy Kowalski at Wolves in 1978 who was sent packing before he could make his league debut.
  3. I've had a little look thru this period and can find ten examples of foreign riders averaging 2.00 or less (from at least ten matches). Strangely most of them have yet to be mentioned on this thread, and one of them went on appeared in the world individual final!
  4. Looking at the rules as presently constructed I think you are onto something!
  5. Look at Birmingham's 2015 league winning performances. Almost all of their important away wins were on the back of big scores from Woods. Verge is slowly improving and Ruddick has the potential to up his average. Remember all three will at times be facing opponents who are inexperienced reserves.
  6. But only in the Premiership. My other half has to pay £35 (for a really bad seat) if he wants to watch his team play away in the Championship at QPR. Yes - in football it costs more to follow your team in the second tier than the top tier. So it's not only speedway that has some questionable pricing. In my view each club should be entitled to set its own prices, but perhaps the BSPA should set some minimum requirements on concessionary rates.
  7. 1993 Rule Book Rule B14 Rider Replacement Scheme... "An additional rider must be present: he shall be programmed as number 9" B14(ii) stated that the number 9 may replace an R/R rider excluded under 2 mins or any other starting offence or if the original RR rider is not fit for a rerun. There was no facility for no 9s to ride in the reserve heat. Humph is thinking of Rule B8A which only permitted the replacement of a reserve in ht 15 (the second reserves heat in the 1993 format) where both were injured, and then the only eligible replacement was the no 6 in the team's averages. (I believe this rule was rarely used - I saw it happen at Long Eaton [28 July v Peterboro [Alan Mogridge rode in ht 15 after Panthers reserves Gage and McCullogh crashed out in the first reserves race*] - can anyone recall other cases where it was used?) * Panthers were also operating R/R for Rod Colquhoun, but no 9 Carl Johnson did not get a ride
  8. If it was the Premiership then Cov v Belle Vue wouldn't have been scheduled for that night. The absence of any CL fixtures on the Friday makes it clear that it is intended to carry on as per previous years.
  9. 25 Oct mtg was a 4TT - rained off - involving Nottm, Leicester Wolves and Oxford PROGRAMME EXISTS Meeting staged on 1 Nov with insert as Wimbledon replaced Leicester. Mtg won by Wolves
  10. So how about a team now? 1 Hougaard 8.70 2 Ludvig Lindgren 7.69 3 Sedgmen 7.60 4 Schlein 7.17 5 Auty 7.01 6 J B Andersen 6.30 7 Stefan Nielsen 5.53 Tot 50.00
  11. I concur with this (and I have extensive experience of planning). The one caveat I have is that the current Govt. are the developers friend and have been making it easier to get approval in a number of situations so it could turn out that planning regulations offer less protection than is expected.
  12. Have the legal issues surrounding liability for the opening night fiasco been resolved? Given the speed at which these things move (doubly so when a local authority is involved) it is quite likely that that dispute is still rumbling on in the background. Any agreement between MCC and the new promotion at Belle Vue is likely to be independent of that (although may be complicated by the presence of parties involved in the old promotion also being in the new promotion). I'm just getting a little anxious about the time that has elapsed since the announcement of the agreement without any news as to the identity of the new promoters. If the deal has been done, why is it still such as secret?
  13. If you are going to be so abrupt I will not make any effort to provide you with information on the future. An apology would be appreciated.

  15. While I would counsel caution (I was once involved in a case where it cost £300,000 to prove five people were entirely innocent) it is worth pointing out you can't libel the council. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/law-report-local-authorities-cannot-institute-libel-actions-derbyshire-county-council-v-times-1473954.html However the contractors no doubt have deep pockets and would probably be the greatest impediment to SS printing the full story.
  16. But if that turned out to be the least worst solution I would welcome them. Indeed. The Bees may not even be the worst run in (the) Coventry (area).
  17. Well looking at the rest of the speedway world: Poland - champions decided by play-off final Sweden - ditto Denmark - 'Superfinalen' using 4TT format determines champions Germany - champions decided by play-off final But: Russia - no playoffs (however there are only three teams in the league) Czechia - no playoffs (but all matches are 4TT involving all four teams) Finland - no playoffs (in a five team league where 4TT format is used) And as for other sports, well in NFL the Superbowl seems quite popular!
  18. Although I'm not sure we know what day Leicester are riding on. And what would be the impact if Coventry do not run? So it is far from cut and dried.
  19. Will it need planning permission? Surely it is an established use, which does not expire when the activity discontinues?
  20. It would also require the BSPA to decide that he was a 'fit and proper' person to hold a promoter's licence. That would be an interesting discussion to eavesdrop!
