Unlike most other countries a two minute exclusion is not counted as a ride in the UK for the purposes of averages or complying with minimum ride rules. It does count for the purposes of maximum rides.

Surely McKinna's sick note would have to be presented to the referee before the start of the meeting - but as he wasn't injured until proceeding to the start in heat 4 that would not be possible, so I'd say no guest. Given he appeared on track I'd credit McKinna with an appearance. But if instead he'd tripped over in the pits on the way to mounting his bike prior to heat 4 then I'd be inclined to say no appearance.
-
Interestingly Swedish and Polish averages generally do include 2 minute exclusions as a ride.

I did 73 at 22 tracks - guess that makes me a part timer. I think when Redcar named their team for Sheffield the season reached its low point.

Ronan Tungate, who turned up at Somerset last season but withdrew injured before the start is probably the closest scenario from last season. Personally I would not count that as an appearance. However had he been announced as riding, and only withdrawn after the start of the meeting, but before his first ride then I am uncertain. Had he been announced as riding in heat 3 and then excluded under 2 mins then what? In Poland it is possible for riders to be named in the main body of the team and not get a ride. PZM do credit such riders with an appearance. In Russia however such riders are not credited with an appearance in the averages I have seen published. Another variant. What if a meeting is called off after heat 10 (so result stands) and before the rerun of a race from which a rider has been excluded. The race hasn't been completed so surely doesn't count. But that means the excluded rider won't be credited with a ride. So a rider could be excluded as the primary cause of the stoppage from heat 15 and still have a maximum per official figures!

So I'm not the only one.

Sgp Wildcards 2018

Agree with that analysis. I would just add that for commercial reasons the final pick must be a Dane. If so then I'd go for Iversen but I can understand the claims for Pedersen. Either way it is tough on Lebedevs as SEC champion. -
I agree too - with the caveat that we can't recreate the seventies (or even sixties) the world has moved on. It is time to break the sport's current financial model (where the main beneficiaries are engine tuners and Easyjet)

Positive development. Maybe this will help persuade Ippo ad P'boro to stay in the Championship and stop it becoming a regional league. Having back some old favourites that the fans can relate to would be a smart move

I have no idea. My figures were speculative and illustrative, and I think I will leave further speculation to others who know more about the mechanics of the TV contract.

I'd love to know the criteria for this judgement.

Reserves And A Stupid Question
arnieg replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Rules vary. In some countries and competitions it would be a yes, in others a no. -
The starting point is that you have to distinguish between assets and revenue transactions. It looks pretty typical of a small company (which means it benefits from the small companies exemptions that allow it not to disclose any profit and loss account.) From the VAT creditor and the corporation tax creditors we can hazard a guess that Go-speed has a turnover measured in hundreds of thousands. There appear to be no obvious outgoings apart from the one part time employee so I suspect that there is some form of fee being paid to other companies (but there is no connected party transaction note so maybe not). The value of the company is principally the rights under its existing contract (i.e. the right to receive future revenues) with the BSPA, and that is not shown on the Balance sheet. So we know nothing about the company's worth - it could be twopence, it could be millions. It looks like the booked profits are all paid out in dividends. Which begs the question what is the (non-VATable) expense that makes up the difference. so one possible (note possible - I am making some [very] big generalizations and guesses here) shape of the P & L: Revenue ~500k Less: Principal outgoings ~350k Less: wages and other misc overheads ~50k Profit before tax ~100k Less corp tax ~40k Profit after tax ~60k Less dividends ~ 60k t/fr to reserves nil Overdrawn directors loan account looks pretty unexceptional to be honest, but the build up of the tax/VAT creditors would sound a note of caution. My guess is that the £350k (and that could be anything between £200k and a million in reality) is paid to another entity and the bulk of the profits from the TV deal taxed there.

Not to mention the random postponements, mystery generator failures and missing medical cover....

I've seen a lot of brilliant meetings at Alwalton, but this wasn't one of them. No matter how good the last few heats - and as a neutral I enjoyed them - the first two hours (bar Starke's win over Heeps) were uninspiring. We had a late start, a long delay while Rory was treated, and a one sided match against visitors missing a key rider. And then it finally got going. The last third of the match was dramatic (and undoubtedly uplifting for visiting fans) but we had to wait a long time in the chill wind before the denouement. Looking forward to the second leg, who knows what further surprises this tie may throw up.

Other cup finals are availanle You could watch Jack Holder lead the Panthers against Ipswich in the C'ship Cup Final. Oh...hang on ....maybe not...

Correct answer for TR at end of 1950 is Eric Minall 72.6 (as per Stenners) The result of heat 2 on 21 September was indeed a win for Eric Mason, but his time was 74.2. Evidence: 1) 21 Sept filled in programme gives time as 74.2 2)28 Sept and 12 Oct progs still show TR as 72.6 by Eric Minall nb the only other rider to hold the record during the year was Len Williams (Sheffield) who set a new fastest time of 73.0 on 7 August

Relegation And Promotion Play Offs

Plenty of us said that last night. Crowd looked good because the stands were closed (due to the high winds). I reckon less than 650 adults last night. -
