Scott Nicholls In The Gps
HenryW replied to Paula's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
He lost to Toninho....I'm starting to come round to your way of thinking Sub! -
Ahhh...but Sweden runs a squad system so individual teams can sign more of the top riders. That surely has a negative impact on the standard of some of their squads What is surely a bigger factor in the difference is that Jonsson, Hampel, Gollob, Lindback, Jagus, Holta, etc choose to race in Sweden but not in the UK!

Just thought I should point out that my comment wasn't suggesting that the cameras were missing things as they happened, purely that the replays have been pretty poor so far this GP season. The example you gave of the Harris race was one that I noticed during the coverage as well. Obviously, as you mentioned, Sky went back to this race but the production company at the track clearly didn't seem to think it merited a replay in the normal post-race segment when it was something that anyone who knew anything about speedway would certainly have shown. I really don't think we need 5 or 6 different shots of the riders leaving the gate, not when there have been quality racing moves during the race. It's been the same in all GPs so far this season, which is what made me wonder whether the same production company has done all events. As for the commentary team not talking about the interesting events actually being shown on screen.....well, it's Millard, isn't it? Until he exits, I don't expect that to change.

LMAO....I really don't want to know about the "team bonding" sessions in Bydgoszcz now
-
Fair point Grachan....that'll teach me to read the original post more carefully. Still, I reckon that Indianerna could give any EL team a good run for their money on their home track, if using their strongest squad rather than the one that you named.....
-
Think back many years (maybe you're too young ) to the GP race where in the middle of the straight Tomasz reached across and grabbed Henka by the testicles.....now THAT is a dirty move
-
Is the coverage definitely being filmed by the local TV companies as in previous seasons? The replays shown in the GPs this year seem to have been different, and in my opinion inferior, to previous seasons....and they also seem to have had a consistent style across the GPs. I know that IMG have their own production company, is it possible that they have taken over the filming and/or production of the coverage sent out to the international channels?

Yes, Nicki caused the crash, and he was rightly excluded from the re-run. To look any deeper than a racing mistake is a nonsense though. There was nothing malicious or cynical about the move, it was simply bad luck....He picked up drive and lost control, just like Jason did when he fell. The real person to blame, IMHO, is the person responsible for the track surface. If it wasn't such a barren surface Nicki wouldn't have been climbing over the white line desperately seeking some grip to propel him around the first turn. I also feel gutted for Jagus. Yes, he may have taken a knock to the head but that's not the first time this has happened in a GP. I can clearly recall TRick being knocked out cold in a race in 2000, but there was no question about him completing the meeting (although not the re-run as he was disgracefully excluded, and anyone who remembers the incident will know what I'm talking about). Honestly, do you remember Pedersen grabbing anyone's nuts in the middle of a race?
-
Ah, so you pick on the Indians. They haven't got a good squad this season, but then they have scored no league points either. Compare them with the dross at Belle-Vue and Oxford, and they don't look so bad. What about if you compared some of the better teams? Do you think that Coventry would like to face Ulamek, Harris, B.Pedersen, Iversen, Gollob, Chrzanowski and Forsberg? Or what about Poole taking on H.Andersen, P.Karlsson, Lindgren, Gjedde, Jonsson, Kling and Tornqvist. Seems to me that the Swedes certainly have the upper hand there The UK has one more team in it's Elite league than Sweden....Hardly a massive difference. What IS a difference is the fact that all the top riders race in Sweden.

Thanks for the info Matt and Subedei. It does seem that Zielona Gora have a serious issue with their fans. I've only seen or heard about a few of their matches and every single one has had some crowd trouble.....Maybe, as you suggest, being forced to race one or two meetings in an empty stadium would help to calm the situation but it seems that this has to be a last resort. Unfortunately, such an action would actually only hurt the real fans, and I am sure there are many, and the hooligans would find somewhere else to have a punch-up while they couldn't go to the speedway..... As for your troubles with national media....I'm sure everyone in the UK can sympathise with this. It sounds like the sport gets the same sort of attention from your Capital's media as we do here in the UK.....Admittedly, speedway doesn't out-do football for fans here, but Newspapers and TV news would prefer to cover cricket and snooker matches with a few hundred fans rather than the speedway matches with several thousand fans..... Just in case anyone is wondering about the lower leagues in Poland....The great Denis Gizatullin racked up 11 away from home today

What Gp's Are You Going To In 2007?
HenryW replied to SCB's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Dunno....as long as Rico tours have a bloke in a plaster cast to hold back the drinking averages, I reckon you could keep up (especially if it's the Rico tours drinking heat-leader in the cast ) -
For Ukrainian speedway you should probably also check Chervonograd site
-
This site is a good source of videos from Russian speedway as well.... Examples being : Togliatti v Oktyabrsky Balakovo derby Balakovo v Oktyabrsky The SK Turbina site mentioned by Ja-Jacek also has some good videos. As an aside, if you are looking for good Russian sites that are written in English you are going to struggle. Babelfish is your friend

Surely Chivsy travel's international branch hasn't gone bust after the Bydgoszcz trip this year? Come on Chivsy.....you can rival TP yet -
I hate to put a downer on your dreams SCB, but I just can't see them offering you anything to race for them It does look like the Russian league is shaping up nicely for 2007. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the action from there next year, even if it is just on the PC for now....

I will definitely be joining Rico and Mateusz in Wroclaw and Bydgoszcz, and will also probably make Cardiff. Hopefully might make Prague next year as well.....others are yet to b considered. At all venues I will be moping around depressed because serial failure PePe is no longer part of the circus. -
LMAO.....I'm not convinced that this mode of transport would get him to and from his destination in a timely fashion to allow him to continue to compete in the Swedish and Polish leagues
-
Why? Because he looks after his own financial security? BTW : When are you going to change your signature from that misrepresented quote?
-
Yeah...and it's interesting that Vostok are the team that AJ has raced for, and is being talked about for 2007 when travelling to the UK was allegedly an issue for him

British Selection For 2007
HenryW replied to Gaz W's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm not sure that it is accurate to suggest that Tomek is only still in the top 8 because he made a "couple of finals". By my reckoning, if you tally up the scores from the qualifying heats in all of the GPs this year, Tomek is still in the top 8.... Assuming my calcs are correct, the order actually becomes : 1.Crump (115), 2.Hancock (106), 3.Pedersen.N (100), 4.Adams (93), 5.Jonsson (87), 6.Zagar (78), 7.Gollob (73), 8.Pedersen.B (73), 9.Nicholls (72), 10.Lindback (66), 11.Hampel (65), 12.Andersen (62), 13.Iversen (51), 14.Richardson (40), 15.Rickardsson (38), 16.Protasiewicz (31) So maybe Jarek Hampel would be a better rider to make your argument with, he tumbles back down the order without his 3 final appearances, unlike Mr Gollob. Bjarne Pedersen clearly stands out as the man to suffer from his inability to make it through to finals. Scotty also looks much healthier in this table. Considering he missed a round, to only be 1 point out of 8th isn't too bad...especially when you consider he was the 2nd most consistent* rider in the field with a standard deviation in his scores of only 1.32. *The most consistent was, of course, the great PePe!! -
Whether you go into the cheapest seats or not probably depends on the type of person you are and what kind of behaviour you enjoy and what you find unacceptable. You are almost guaranteed to have lots of drunken Poles around you during the meeting. Personally I have never had any trouble, but then I have been with the wonderful Bydgoszcz Net F@ns when I have been in that area. The biggest problem we have had was when huge smoke bombs caused some distress to one member of our party a couple of years ago... The atmosphere is certainly better in the cheap seats than in the other sectors! As for the tickets. Never been a problem with picking up the pre-paid tickets for the meeting after arriving at the stadium, and never heard of anyone having any trouble.

New Speedway Game (online) Simulator
HenryW replied to mikowhy's topic in International World of Speedway
Is it not about time we started a separate website or at least forum for British players of this game? We are at 81 pages of "Anyone playing", "What IP?", "How do I start a server", "How do I download the game", etc, etc, etc.... The useful information is being lost in the fog and the BSF bandwidth is being, quite frankly, wasted by this. As far as I can see, if a UK league is started, this is only going to get worse. I am likely to be getting a dedicated server for an unrelated project in the near future, and would be happy to give some space to a forum or site for this game, but until then...Does anyone have a good suggestion for a free forum host that we could use as I really don't have any knowledge of forum hosts. -

Anyone racing just now? If not...anyone want to race just now? PM me and I can try and set up a server...no guarantees that I will succeed though
