Big Meeting At Poole
rabbit replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Why is it a meaningless fixture Kev? It's an anniversary meeting - a celebration of the club's 60 years. It's a big event and the prices reflect that - you'll pay the same and a lot more to watch the GP at Cardiff so what's the difference? and don't say the facilities because that's not what people go for - it's the whole occasion. It's still 16 blokes riding 20-odd heats isn't it? Why is it that people can't even acknowledge for 5 minutes a positive event when it happens? Or are we all such embittered fans now that everything has to be criticised? -

Hope you do make it down for the meeting Sue. Reckon it has the potential to be a great day. -

Unbelievable. We have comment after comment on here about the lack of promotion in this sport; so here's a huge event for a domestic club with a cracking line-up, massive prize money and you get these comments. Speedway fans never fail to astound me. And that's not in a good way. Have to say this has gone a long way to cheering me up after all the cr@p news eminating about next year and the leagues. At least we'll get to see some world class riders at Poole in at least one meeting! -
So no NIMBYs yipping on about noise which was there before they moved in then or objections to sounds and smells interrupting their Utopic lives?

Oxford Under 15's Final Round ...
rabbit replied to spuds-r-us's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
No, I dare say you're right. He has the ability to do well if he keeps focussing, practicing and getting himself noticed. And the very best of luck to him - let's hope he does go onto big things as British speedway needs all the talented youngsters it can get! He might just need to work on his interview technique a bit for the future though... So do plenty of others...the abuse I've suffered! -

Possibly because not that many people knew very much about him! You have to remember that a lot of people posting on here backing other riders are either from that riders club or are sponsors. Hence it seeming that more 'attention' is aimed at them. It's not a slight against anyone else. Anyway, many congratulations to Dan Greenwood - very professional performance and the best rider on the night. For Spin King , very impressed with James Sargeant - fast, smooth and definitely one to watch. Not necessarily the fastest time wise, but fully deserved his second place. As for Brendan, just not his night, he doesn't need me to make excuses for him, he was gutted afterwards and he'll know where things went wrong, but he's had a hell of a debut season imo. An entertaining meeting and well done to all the competitors - felt for poor Shane Hazledean who lost out on countback for the final but I'm sure these guys will bounce back. Do agree with Parsloes that it was a shame more rounds weren't incorporated this year - it did seem a bit of a cobbled together championship - hopefully those in the echelons of power can give it back some prominence again next year. -

Jeez chill out Spin King. I know you're rooting for one of the other lads but Parloes did put 'personally' and 'imho' and 'at this stage' - it's his personal opinion, that's all. 'Personally' I also hope Brendan wins tonight too, but most of all good luck to ALL the competitors tonight, let's hope for another cracking meeting, and may the best man (or girl) win! -

Good luck to Bren. On home turf he has to have a good chance. We'll be there to cheer him on -
Poole Vs Newcastle.knock Out Cup Final,2nd Leg
rabbit replied to e,skidz's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
I'm assuming you just forgot the last sentence saying 'courtesy of the Poole forum'... Cracking performance by the Poole guys over the Newcastle team, which to be fair was pretty much Plymouth in another guise. Matt Bates beaten for the first time in all the Academy meetings he's ridden in which is some feat. I know I'm biased but Bren had a cracking ride in the last heat to hold off Rob Smith for all four laps. It looked as it he was going to be caught and passed at one stage, but he rode with a maturity beyond his years, and it's great to see how much he's improved riding for Oxford since June. Hard to believe in some races he's still only 15. Well done to all the team, and a big thanks to all who've ridden at Poole in the Academy this year. It's been great to watch. -
Final Gp, From Germany

Aha...thanks Ballinger -
Whilst I agree it was damned annoying can you imagine the outcry if the shoe were on the other foot and Sky were showing some live speedway and then cut away from the last couple of heats because the next live programme was due on? If anything it was shonky programming to put two live events on straight after each other, particularly when other Sky channels were showing magazine-type programmes from 6pm onwards, but I don't agree that speedway has a God-given right to cut across or be treated as more important than a live show already being broadcast. We've often caused other programmes following on to over-run so don't think fans can get too up in arms about Saturday, however much we were probably all screaming at the TV as time ticked on.

Random question here...we've had an eye on the Stadium webcam as they built the circuit and the pre/during and post-GP activity but notice they seem to now be building some sort of mini-circuit after dismantling most of the track. Anyone any idea what's going in there? It's here and a bit intriguing. -
So who are IYO

I feel for poor old Subedei...finally Nicholls has qualified by right, however controversially. No more 'beggar' quotes - will that title transfer to Bomber now?

Well done AJ...pleased for the guy and think he should be back in next year. Similarly Holta for riding through the pain barrier. Bad luck for poor old Barney in that semi - knew he wouldn't get lucky second time out but just pleased to see Hans get up from the crash. How he didn't break a collarbone is anyone's guess, but boy I reckon he'll ache tomorrow. -
Ref bottled it, either that or he wasn't watching. As for Nicholls, what a weasel. Love to be a fly on the wall at the conversation between the two straight after, although somehow I suspect Harris is too much of a gentleman - now if the shoe had been on the other foot... At least Harris should get a wild card for next year anyway.

Oh the temptation to post a reply to that... -
Yes and BobC and friends from Poole as well. Total nightmare. Well done to Droogie Wright - excellent performance against a pretty strong line-up (legit and slightly iffy withdrawals notwithstanding ). I know he's had a good season but even against the likes of Lyons, Holder etc I have to saty I'd not have had him down as a winner. Congratulations.
