Team Gb V Australia Test Series
rabbit replied to BigFatDave's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
To put the record straight, the delay wasn't due to only having one ambulance, it was to do with the track doctor accompanying Doyle to the hospital. The alternative was to wait for an NHS ambulance and the inevitable further delay handing over from track doc to the paramedics so the decision was made to take Jason straight there - whether it saved any time in the end is a moot point. Some new procedure in force at Poole A&E (or more generally perhaps) - for those at the Cov match the A&E ambulance was called and the meeting wasn't able to restart until the doc had handed over the rider to the paramedics and was 100% available to the speedway again. -
Torun Gp Saturday 19th June
rabbit replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Enjoyed this GP - hope this new Torun track remains on the calendar. It's certainly conducive to good racing. In fact the series so far this year has been a breath of fresh air. Can't call it at all for the title and enjoying watching the new guard come to the fore. Yes, there were a few holes but think we've all seen meetings where the track has come into play. Some riders will hit a ride and come off their bikes, others will use it to fire themselves into an advantageous position. Here's hoping that Cardiff produces as much excitement - it's making up for the league series. -
Sack The Statto At Sky Sports

Same here. I've read this thread with amusement and think some fans need to lighten up and actually enjoy their sport instead of trying to micro-analyse and dissect every single aspect of every single comment that's made. It's supposed to be entertainment not torture. So what if there are a few inaccurate comments made, there are plenty in some of the documentaries I watch too - it happens, get over it, you either want to watch the content itself or you don't. So what if mention is made over Webbo's attendance - it's great that someone in the world of a major mainstream sport is watching and giving the sport some kudos, hell a shame more 'mere mortals' don't - the sport might not be in such a state over here. If you want intensity watch the news. -
I guess we're possibly those with most interest in the decisions... FWIW, I've just watched the meeting again after being there last night. My thoughts on the various decisions were: Doyle's exclusion - a candidate for all 4 back - certainly contact but no big deal. No intent, but it was obvious an exclusion would occur after the race was allowed to continue. Hougaard's exclusion. Possibly Bjarne did slide off easily, but I thought personally there was more case in this one than for Jason's exclusion. Maybe not from contact but from the angles. Also the ref may have been swayed that it was the second time Hougaard was involved. Artur's first warning - no problem. He moved. easy call, although he mucked himself up so other refs may have allowed it to continue. Can't fault the decision though. Artur's exclusion. I've watched and re-watched this. He barely twitched, and certainly wasn't moving forwards or backwards - when the tapes did go up, he was at the back. Very harsh decision and certainly not consistent with the amount of movement made by other riders. This ref has form amongst riders so his reputation certainly precedes him. I'd give beenfit of the doubt on a couple of the decisions, but not all. Edited for shonky spelling.

Gb Under 21 Qualifiers
rabbit replied to torpointfanatic22's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Good luck to all competitors for tonight's meeting. Here's hoping for an entertaining display of the next generation. I shall be there supporting Bren, so if anyone spots a dippy woman on the terraces jumping up and down in his races, please feel free to come and say hello. -
2010 Grand Prix wildcards

Hans and Freddie pick themselves I think...quality riders with much to offer still on the GP stage. Tai is on the up, and will keep the interest (if not the adoration) of the British fans. Harris, I'm not sure about. I don't buy this Lee Richardson hype...he is not strong enough metally or physically for a GP season - never known an 'in his prime' male have so many illnesses as this bloke and it seems that apart from his core set of fans (strangely from one part of the country) most people aren't convinced about him either. The only credible alternative to a place was Zagar imo, but with Krsko apparently having bitten the dust, so it seems has his chance of a pick. So a 75% thumbs up for me...with a slight doubt over Bomber. -
Very nice to meet you too. Next time we'll have a good chinwag! Thanks for the view on the Cook incident. I know only too well that perception of angles can make one incident look completely different depending on where it was viewed from. It seems on this occasion, that most peoples' take was the same from wherever they were stood. Still, there was a title at stake and I'm sure it won't be the last time young Jerran is squeezed out. There wasn't a lot between either rider at the end of it other than luck...both going in Craig's direction this time. But fair play to him, you need that in sport. Interesting comments about moving the NLRC. I did say to Bob and Chris yesterday that it would be a good meeting to hold at Poole. The base crowd for NL is decent and I think you'd get a lot of travelling support with so many teams quite close. There must've been around 1000 there for our play-off semi on Thursday so the interest in this level is there. My only worry would be that I personally enjoy this level more on the smaller tracks - the racing can get a bit strung out on the larger ones, but perhaps my view is a bit biased there from having such a home team advantage this year. Still food for thought, and much as I enjoy my trips to Uncle Len's, yesterday didn't quite deliver on all fronts.

Oh I dunno...it was the first track this season that I've thought whilst watching that I wouldn't mind going to next year.

Not sure what to make of last night's meeting. It all went a bit Pete Tong when the track grading got out of sync with the riders taking two on the bounce which added extra pauses in the running. It never really got going - add in the crashes and I have to agree with most other posts that it seemed to drag. Having said that, there was some good racing in there, particularly towards the end. Herne looked as if he might dominate at the start but fizzled. Well impressed again with Cook though - despite my Bournemouth allegiance I wanted him to lift the title, but felt so badly for Hughes to lose it on that last bend, and for Cook to win it that way. A mark of both riders' maturity in the way they handled it though. Fair play to both. Can someone comment on the Hart/Cook prang when they met in the heats? It was hard to see from our angle how far out Cookie took Hart - was there room? Was it unfair for Cook to stay in? Someone probably had a better view of it closer to that bend, just interested to know how it played out. Highlight of the trip as always, chips n curry sauce. That's the real reason I go to Rye House...

Best of the GPs so far - totally unpredictable and making the big boys work for their points instead of the usual powerhouse tracks with zippo passing. Bemused that the commentary boys were playing it down as not being 'pure' speedway - perhaps someone can enlighten me as to what 'pure' speedway is, cos I gotta say I prefer racing of the more unpure kind if that's the case. Think JC still has it in the bag, but this does at least give some interest in the last round. If it's as good as last night that'll do me fine. Did love Holta's wave of his water bottle as a mick take of this stupid craze of holding up drinks cans. Made I chuckle that did.

A combination of rider availability and some over-expectancy on the part of some of the Poole fans as to who should be compting seems to have done for it this year. Having said that, we have a very full month ahead with Buccs and Pirates fixtures (4 home meetings confirmed with up to 3 more with the NL KO Cup final, possibly the NL Play-Off Final and EL Relegation Play-Off) so I don't think it will be that much of a big miss.
