Maybe we should remember that the Brits haven't always shown themselves in the best light on Sky either.......there is a phrase about glasshouses and stones I believe....? It's unrealistic to expect professional sportsman with National Pride on their heads NOT to react strongly when a decision has just been incorrectly made against them that, in their view, COULD cost them the meeting. Not blindly, without question, and "because everyone else is", no! You support the Brits if you want to, and not because bombastic tunnel-visioned folk say you should, IMO! -

27 pages of the usual ranting, dross, and childish insults eh? Damn it.....I reckoned it would be well over the thirty-mark by now. -
Meeting Announcer - Swc
Robyn1972 replied to Robyn1972's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Can you clarify who this was directed at? If me, then I'm English, Not Danish. I just don't like being left to feel embarassed not only at the deplorable conditions at the stadium chosen to host the event, but also at the behaviour of someone who, as meeting ANNOUNCER, should be behaving impartially. As I said previously - fine, have Coombes (or preferably Mike Bennet who at least has made speedway his business for long enough to know which bend is which) doing the presentation, but get a competent announcer in to fill that role separately. Bryn Williams, Bryan Knights, and I'm sure there are others are capable of doing the job in a calm measured and easy to understand way. Last night Coombes wasn't even giving out gate positions in order, which for those less accustomed to the bizarre way things are sometimes done in speedway, would have been extremely confusing! What people tend to forget is that the two jobs are very different - having the skills to do one does not necessarily mean you are qualified to do the other. IMO this has been amply demonstrated over the past few days. This year, GB was Host Nation for the world cup. Sadly, we haven't behaved like hosts at all, and I would be surprised if the FIM would not be taking this into account when the venues for the next few years are decided. The hosts should be making all nations present feel welcome, NOT as though they don't deserve to be there. -

It normally seems on here Jess, that you can voice your opinion, so long as that opinion coincides with the in-crowd........ -

Don't talk to me about having to get cleaned up after meetings.....I was washing and drying my hair at 1am!!! Anyhow - one picture, as promised....apologies for the quality - missed the focus on this one! -

That may or may not be the case - I have already said that I can't comment on that as my view wasn't clear. Once I have had the chance to watch back the Sky footage then I will no doubt be able to make up my own mind on the subject. If it was "red mist" then maybe Scott should visit the same Anger Management therapist that it seems Nicki P has been to? Certainly it seems to have done wonders for him - he's a changed rider! As I said elsewhere - if it were an accusation I would agree with you. As and when I have downloaded the pictures I will post one of the sequence into this thread so that people can make up their own mind. -
Meeting Announcer - Swc
Robyn1972 replied to Robyn1972's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Unless things have changed substatially since the last time I cast my eyes over a rule book, it is a meeting PRESENTER who is entitled to be biased. The ANNOUNCER should be impartial. If there is only one person dealing with the microphone at a meeting, and that person is giving details of heats scores, changes to lineups etc, we are entitled to assume that they are the announcer surely? Perhaps the answer would indeed as someone else said to have had a competent announcer in the box (Bryn would, IMO, be an ideal choice) and then either Mike Bennett or the present chap doing centre green presentation, as he clearly has some skill as a presenter. Frankly it makes not the blindest bit of odds that this other country or that are more biased than the chap was yesterday. There are still countries out there where small children have their hands cut off for nicking apples, but I hope no-one is suggesting that makes it acceptable?! we should be striving to be the best, not simply working on the basis that "others do it so why shouldn't we?". Come on BSI - sort it out before tomorrow. -
Could someone please inform this chap that there are four countries on display in these meetings, and that to presume that "Everyone in the stadium" should be getting behind Team GB is disrespectful to the other nations in the extreme. Could they also please remind him that as an announcer he should remain impartial.

Can't comment on the earlier event between Hans & Scott as my view wasn't clear. I was stood on the first/second bend, where the second incident occurred. The reason I was stood there was that - as usual at speedway - I was taking photos. Something which can't be argued with IMO, is the picture I have which CLEARLY shows Scott looking for Hans on his way into that bend, and aiming his back wheel straight at him. I have no problem with HARD riding, but when it comes to the stage that a supposedly professional rider is more interested in looking for an opponent than keeping his eyes on where he's meant to be going, that crosses the line in my opinion. -

Yep, VV is correct. Blimey - that's not something you hear said often on here is it?!!

Chris Louis explains his reasons for signing for Lublin HERE All very straightforward!

Yes - a huge syurprise. He had said that after his accidents abroad he would not consider team racing overseas again.......so this is an interesting development indeed. As for conditions - it may very possibly have had something to do with safety standards, I would think? Also undoubdtedly the understanding that British fixtures came first, regardless of circumstance.

Saturday Uk Terrestrial Tv Speedway Round Up

Would Sky allow it though? I had a feeling that somelone had said before that in the past when Sky have been aproached for permission for other TV companies to film at EL tracks they had refused. -

Robyn1972 replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Thing is though Sube, aren't you now saying that BSI and the FIM are as corrupt as one another? If the FIM allowed BSi too much involvement and thus the selection process suffered as a result, then the FIM are as much to blame, if not more so, than BSI, in my book. And I would have to say that you are seriously missing out if you "boycott" Cardiff on principle - regardless of who organises and markets it, it is a fantastic day out and one which shouldn't be missed by any speedway fan who is able to get there. -
Think you will find that is a snippet of the official statement released by hans yesterday. A thread was started by Subedei with the whole statement in the SGP section already Dave!

ROFL - you mindreader, you!!!!! Nah - my ongoing battle with an amusing character on the witches forum is keeping me going at the moment! -
Thank you for that - I just have!! Iris123 - to underline my opinion that Mr Richardson is as worthy of a place in the GP as Mr Nicholls, please refer to points 24 through 28 in the above mentioned thread!
-
Hang on Rabbit.....we are seriously thinking of bothering to argue with a BLOKE called IRIS?!!! And they ARE the source of all the bitching and aggravation.....even when it's girls doing it they've been wound up by men first to put them in a bad mood!
-
Right. I'll limit my posting to the Top section of the board from now on then as I obviously haven't swotted enough to qualify to have a valid opinion on anything important like the Grand Prix series...... I really wish Phil would update the forum rules to include stuff like this.......

We are just going round in circles here. Yes, I do feel that Lee should be included. As I have explained twice now the only reference point I had to back this up was indeed the Elite League averages. I at no stage said that the selection for the GP's should be based on these though - I simply used it as a guide to Lee's general form in comparison with others who are definately in. No-one told me that in order to post to this thread you needed to have a thorough knowledge of speedway around the world!
-
I do indeed feel that Lee should be included, and the only reference point I had to hand, as I have already explained, was the EL averages. However I'm not for a secopnd suggesting that the selection process for the grand Prix series should be based on those averages am I?! I'm not in a position to use figures from any other nations league to "justify" Lee's inclusion, and wouldn't begin to attempt to - as I stated previously my knowledge of foreign racing is practically non-existant! At no point have I suggested that the british league has any kind of superiority, or that our averages should be used for the selection process. *edit* have just re-read my original post again and I have to say I can't for the life of me see where you think I have implied that the Elite averages should have any bearing on anything!
