  1. Can we start the betting Steve? I am away from Friday afternoon.
  2. Reading comments on the net, Andel sounds Vgood Staying just around the corner in the Ibis.
  3. Thanks Rob. I have read on a couple of websites that as well as validating your ticket you should also out your name and the date of birth on it. Might be a new thing? http://www.travel.cz/guide/17/index_en.html Also do not cross a road when the (pelican crossing) traffic light is RED. Even if there is no traffic about! Maximum fine is 1000 crowns, but often 200 crowns.

  5. Thanks Steve, Shame you are not going. I will have couple of bottle of Budvar for you. I will have a look out for the 'Blue Duckling'. Might give 'Drake's Club' a miss, think that’s the one Shoddy always goes on about or was that ‘Captain Nemo's’
  6. I am looking forward to my first visit to Prague. Here are some directions which were posted on the forum a year or two back. Unfortunately I have forgotten who posted it! (I think it was the kind person who sent me the Prague DVD but not sure?) Please note the details could have changed since they were originally posted. Public Transport from the Airport Upon clearing passport control, you will pass through some automatic frosted glass doors, leading you into the Entrance to the Airport. To your left will be an automatic money exchange machine, to your right some stairs leading upwards. Infront, and to the right are car rental desks, public information desks, etc. It is from the public information desks that you can purchase 3 day (or even 5 day) public transport passes. These give you access to buses, trams, and underground. Exit the building via the front exit, and go straight ahead over 2 or 3 zebra crossings, following the signs for the 119 Bus. After 100 yards or so, the roads conclude with a standard road, from where you can pick up the 119 Bus. The 119 Bus runs from the airport to the underground stop at “Dejvicka”, and only to “Dejvicka”, i.e. it is the Airport Shuttle. Once aboard the bus, stamp your travel passes in the on board ticket machines. This validates your tickets, and the period starts from the moment you stamp your tickets. Note: You might also have to put your DOB and sign the back of the pass but not sure if this is correct or not ? Dejvicka is where you can pick up the Underground (Green Line – Line A), and is about 3-4 miles journey on the bus from the airport. It takes about 15-20 minutes. Just get off when everyone gets off. The bus goes no further than Dejvicka, apart from back to the Airport. Being foreign, the bus will be on the correct side of the road for the Underground station. Go into Dejvicka Station, watch out for the fast escalators as they are easy to fall down after a tiring journey especially when you are loaded up with cases. (There speaks the voice of experience :!: ) Once in Dejvicka station, continue down to the platforms, the train will only be going in one direction from Dejvicka, and indeed arriving from one direction, as Dejvicka is the first stop on the line. You will not need to stamp your tickets again at any time whilst in Prague, just look after them, and if a ordinary looking bloke (ie. No uniform) approaches you and shows you a “Sherrifs” Badge, he will be a ticket inspector, just show him your ticket and you’ll be OK. Travel on the Underground from Dejvicka all the way through to the most appropriate station to your hotel / accomodation. Stops on Line A are as follows. Dejvicka Hradcanska Malostranska Staromestska Mustek Muzeum Hlavni Madazi Nam Miru Jiriho z Podebrad (the TV Tower stop) Flora Zelivskeho Strasnicka Stalka Getting to Stadion Marketa Take the Underground to Malostranska station (Green line). Exit Malostranska station to street level, where you can pick up the No.22 tram which will take you up to the area of Prague called “Brevnov”. This is where the Speedway is. The tram lines run in the middle of the road, accordingly the tram stops are in the middle also. You will need the No.22 that is going uphill, rather than the one going downhill back into town. Once on the No.22, watch for the stops on the onboard displays, and the maps that are in the carriages. There are around 20 stops beofre you'll need to get off, but its a nice route up past the Castle. You need to get off at the stop "Vypich", rather than "Brevnov". You will see the stadium up on the hill from Brevnov, but Vypich is closer to the Stadion Marketa. Practice: July 8th, 2005 Time: 3:00 PM Think this is local time? Q. Are there some bars near the stadium? Q. Saturday afternoon. What is the best place to soak up the atmosphere for the build up to the GP. Wenceslas Square or is it mainly spread out? Q. Can you get the tram back to town after the GP? What time do trams stop running? Sky Sports - Sun Jul 10 Championship of Great Britain SS1 For those who are staying in Prague on Sunday night, the Championship of Great Britain will be live on Skysports 1. It starts at 7:00pm GMT. There are several sports bars in Prague which include… Legends Location: Near to the old town. http://www.legends.cz/ Jagr's Sports Bar Location: Near to Wenceslas Square. http://www.praguepubs.co.uk/pubs_details.php?id=50 Q. Any recommendations from people who have been before? Think I might try Legends as it not too close to Wenceslas Square. Pickpockets Like all major tourist cities around the world, pickpocketers operate in busy locations in Prague. Read this website for simple advice…. http://www.livingprague.com/warning.htm Any other recommendations for the visit to Prague? PS. If you see a big motorway blade hidden around Prague please note down the location and give it to Ole Olsen!
  7. I will be going for a week as long as Robin Hood keeps running well
  8. If you have kept your ticket stub complain to BSI. They should give you complementary tickets for next year really. Photo
  9. I understand there was a flayer with the tickets this year that there will be Juniors at the meeting? What a fantastic idea. Wish they had said this before as I for one would have be tempted to go this year if I had known there would have been Juniors racing. Would rather watch the Juniors, future champions in a pre-main event than listen to some singers. All the under 15 should be invited to go though. Understand if only say the top 8 can ride due to time and space but think it is important to invite all the riders.
  10. Latest Issue Welcome to your new-look VSM! Issue No.49 - Volume 13 No. 1 - Spring 2005 Ivor Brown - Dave Lanning remembers the legendary Cradley Heath star who died recently. Brown was a hero to Heathens' supporters but a villain in the eyes of others. According to one of Brown's rivals: "There's good money to be earned in this league - from blokes in the pits offering a bonus if you can stuff Ivor Brown." Max Grosskreutz - Part one of a fascinating, in-depth interview with the great former pre-war Belle Vue and Bradford racer. Steve Magro visited Max at his Australian home shortly before he passed away 11 years ago. This is the true story of the legendary Aussie captain…his progression from cane-cutter to national champion, joining the Aces of Manchester in 1930, the first England v Australia Test and the secrets of his revolutionary bike that had his biggest rivals baffled. Museum Mission - Why Ivan Mauger is backing the bid to build speedway's national museum. Great Britain v USSR - Looking back at the 1964 international clash that attracted a record crowd to Newport. Collectors' World - Our regular, new column where our expert points out the do's and don't of bidding on internet auction sites. Also, the latest memorabilia gems to go under the hammer. Ron Johnson - The rise and tragic fall of one of the all-time greats. Wal Morton - At last, a memorial stone for the former Norwich ace. Long Eaton - The 'lost years', when speedway first came to Station Road. Exeter - The unique County Ground circuit, a 'quarter-mile killer'. 15. I have been asked to post the following on behalf of the VSRA... The VSRA (Veteran Speedway Riders Association) has been given the opportunity to create a Speedway Museum in the grounds of the Paradise Wildlife Park, Broxbourne in Hertfordshire; about 15 mins drive from Rye House Speedway. The owner of the wildlife park, ex rider Peter Sampson, has made the required space available, it will require a great deal of funds and work to put up the buildings to house the collection. We have sponsors for about £25,000 but we will need something nearing twice that amount, so we are looking for donations and fund raising and when the time comes to start on the work we will be looking for volunteer workers for bricklaying, carpentering, plumbing etc. If anyone can possibly help with donations, cheques can be made out to the VSRA and sent to the secretary Vic White, 90 Ruskin Avenue, Long Eaton, Notts. NG10 3HX. All donations will be acknowledged by post. Please make offers of physical help to the same address. A book containing all the names of people who help will be on show at the Museum. Those who have bought the Once a Jolly Swagman video or DVD from me may be interested to know that £5.00 from each purchase will be donated to the fund. For any more info you can contact George Barclay, Tel 020 8592 3361 or myself at Vikingukvideo@aol.com Should our Quest fail all donations will be returned to source. Thanks Alan Hodkinson.
  16. Joanne don't know if this will help or not but if you are going for seats you need to tick the seat box rather than enter the number of seats you want. The SEATS COUNTER just displays the number of box you have ticked.
