Benfield Sports International (BSI) rights holders of the world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series (SGP) announced today a new four year contract with Millennium Stadium Plc to host the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix until 2006 (inclusive). The new agreement guarantees four British Grands Prix - including this Saturday's (14 June) FIM Fiat Vans British Speedway Grand Prix - will be staged at Britain's number one sporting venue. Commenting on the deal, John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, Benfield Sports International, said: "The FIM British Speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium is our flagship event and sets the standard for all our other Grands Prix. We are delighted to have finally agreed this new contract and look forward to continuing the great relationship we have with the Stadium and also the City of Cardiff, who have always welcomed us, and our international supporters, with open arms since we originally moved the event to the Millennium Stadium back in 2000. Postlethwaite concludes: "I have always said that we are here for the long term at Cardiff and not as a matter of convenience and this is proof of our intention." Paul Sergeant, General Manager, Millennium Stadium commented: "It's a fantastic boost for both the stadium and the city that we have secured a world championship sporting event for another three years. The agreement also reinforces our commitment to attract and hold international sporting events at Britain's number one sporting stadium. "The FIM Speedway Grand Prix is one of our most prestigious and exciting events. The crowd has grown each successive year and with the transformation of the stadium it brings its own totally unique atmosphere that almost lifts the Stadium's roof!" Tickets are still on sale for this Saturday's event and will also be available on the day from the Millennium Stadium Ticket Office, Tel: 08705 582 582

Buses at night from Cardiff to Rumney?
Phil replied to Phil's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Thanks Shalewhale that looks like it will be a great help. -
For the past 2 years I have managed to get a bus from Cardiff to Rumney but last year they closed all the roads in the city centre straight after the GP so you have to work about 10 minutes to the other side of the city to catch the bus. Thankfully a kind local fan showed us the way from the central bus station to where we can get the bus but knowing my luck they will go straight to the bus stop and not got to the central bus station this year. So does anyone know the road where you can catch the bus to Rumney?

What stupid time to have it on! Hardly going to attract any new viewers at the time of the day.

For some unknown reason it is supposed to be a secret and not advertised, last year I think it leaked out about 3 days before. I am sure it will not be long before we know. Any ideas who it is then Steve Shovlar?

Any more suggestions for pubs / times or anything! Only 8 days to go! http://uk.weather.com/weather/detail/UKXX0030?dayNum=8

I'll try and find my programme from this meeting and give you the full story. I remember writing a report on it and thinking I didn't want to go to speedway anymore. But then I was a hot headed youngster back then. No, he's called Eric. Unless Nigel really is making a very rare visit to England. No, he's called Nigel!...lol I guess there are two Nigel boococks then

Dean Barker and Stoney. I really don't understand why these riders would want to be in the GP anyway. Have they got any chance at all of getting into the top 10 in the next few years?…IMO No. David Howie and Simon Stead are young riders with an aspiration to be World Champions one day or certainly get into the top 10. If they can do this or not we will have to see. Chris Harris must be a bit disappointed that he has not been picked. Robbo maybe flying but does everyone (or the selectors) know that. Steady and Howie are more well known and talked about. He who shouts loudest and all that. Not saying this is right off course. -
Any more suggestions for pubs? Last year we suggested Sam's Bar at about 1:00pm and then The Prince Of Wales from 3:00pm onwards. My vote goes for the…. The Prince Of Wales - 3:00pm onwards. And maybe at different pub earlier on which preferably with seating outside such as Sams's bar or Callaghan's Irish Bar. At the moment I am not sure what time I will make it to Cardiff.

Did anyone manage to get a drink after the GP finished last year? Or did you fly of either back home or the hotel as soon as it finished. We tried a few places but they said they were closing and would not let you in. e.g Prince of Wales. Did the GP finish about 11:00pm last year! Decided to head back to the hotel and went for a curry just across the road from our hotel. We managed to get a bus back but it was the last one and nearly missed it as the Bus Station was closed. Thankfully a local supporter showed about a dozen of us the way to the bus stop. Did people find it hard getting a taxi?

SGP of Europe - Chorzow Poland 17th May
Phil replied to Papa Bazarou's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The start girls have gone down hill, but the white helmet made up for it The raceing was poor to start off with but got better. Mark Loram. Glad they had some sort of fitness test but sounded more like an agreement to me. Not convinced he should have been awarded the points. Does this now opens the flood gates to lots of appeals in the future? -
Fun idea (or mabye not!) but seriously I am sure you know that racing is strictly forbidden on training tracks.
-
What were the problems of them? Would it not be good viewing to see the likes of Billy H come from the back of an 8 rider race to win it. The issues I can think of is there is not enough time to get from back to front in so few laps.
-
I was wondering if there used or if they ever experimented with any staggered start races with 6 more riders? Best riders at the back and see if they can win the race at the front.
