MORT & LEE BACK IN ACTION FOR GARRY ! Two of the greatest Speedway racers of all time have agreed to come out of retirement to compete head to head for Garry at his Benefit Grand Prix at Sheffield on Thursday 23rd August - 7:15pm. Former 1980 Speedway World Champion, Michael Lee will race against Chris Morton MBE the former World Pairs and World Team Cup Champion in the “best of three” match races. Morton starts as clear favourite having represented Sheffield in the British League, held the Owlerton track record at 60.7 seconds for almost 10 years and ended his career as the winner of the Northern Riders Championship in 1993. “Michael has spoken to me about this, he clearly means business but I’m confident I can beat him” said Morton, “I’ve always found Sheffield easy to ride but at the end of the day we’ll give it a good go for Garry” Lee is equally confident “This is more about Garry than Chris and I, of course I’m up for it and if Chris thinks he’s in for an easy ride he can think again. I’d love to say we are going along for the ride but once a racer always a racer, we’ll liven it up you wait and see -

The Association of Speedway Referees in conjunction with the Speedway Control Bureau are offering fans throughout the country a unique opportunity for one of them to spend a night “On the Button” with Preston based official Craig Ackroyd. Fans will be able to bid electronically on line from August 1st in an Ebay auction to raise funds for the recently paralysed Garry Stead and the winner will assist Ackroyd in his official capacity at the Garry Stead Benefit Grand Prix to be staged at Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on August 23rd. Before his qualification as a Referee Craig was a keen motorcyclist and competed against Stead in Junior Grasstrack events, “My family have known Garry a long time” said Ackroyd “the serious injuries he sustained have been a shock to us and I just felt I had to do something to help. Hopefully this unique opportunity will raise funds and give one Speedway fan the opportunity of a lifetime, let’s be honest they all know better, now’s their chance to prove it” -

El Riders Championships
Phil replied to Sandie's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Riders might be able to make Thursday night but what about the fans! A Sunday would have been far better. For me £40 for 2 adults is too steep. It early days but they really need to get decent sponsorship for the meetings and give the riders something to race for! A new jawa bike which most riders end up selling on it a waste of time to them! I guess they could always have the option of a new conservatory or double glazing! -
I see Czestochowa have signed two young Brits, Kennett & Bridger

Sorry don't know, I got the lineup from Ryan last week but not had any rider changes. Ryan has been very busy with all the fixtures over the last few days. I put " Please Note: The rider line-up is unofficial and unconfirmed and is subject to change due to rider availability" just to cover myself -
