  1. For non subscribers to Sky I wonder if it will be possible to view it on myp2p.com. Lots of live sport on there if you can negotiate you way around it. Just need to register and anything there is free.
  2. Ashamed of British speedway. How desperately we need a team of battlers, not bottlers!
  3. My pre 70's hero was Ron Johnston of Belle Vue. (Never to be confused although he often is with Ron Johnson). Seemed as hard as nails, loved riding in the rain (if you could believe Johnnie Hoskins) and according to the late Allan Morrey he could have been another Kiwi world champ if he had concentrated more on his speedway career. Used to stick his Belle Vue pay packets straight into a drawer because he was running his own business. I remember a rare occasion when he fell off on the pits bend and one of the Roger brothers (Bob I think) ran right over him. I met the original Johnno at a Peter Craven memorial meeting a few seasons ago and reminded him of this, however my hero could not remember it. When Johnno retired he was replaced by Gote Nordin. I remember how impressed I was as a youngster seeing this picture in the Manchester Evening Chronicle of Gote in a race jacket with a Viking ship on the front. About the time Kirk Douglas was doing his stuff in the film of the Vikings. Magic.
  4. Rob Maxfield and Larry Kosta. Would love to hear more about Emil Sova and maybe information could be sought from his widow Eva or even his old mate Ales Dryml (Snr).
  5. You should talk to Iris' Peter S. What is there to lose? Ignore all the pessimism about local authorities in the U.K. being unapproachable in comparison to their counterparts in Denmark. If you do not try then you will never know.
  6. Thanks for your reply BH. I just wondered if BSI overlooked the opportunity or whether or not is is blatant bias by a newspaper which once was happy to have its name linked with speedway back in the 70's and before. By the way, Mr binthere doesn't sit well with me anymore since I gave up my collar and tie job. Alan's the name Andrew
  7. Reading the sports section of the Sunday Mirror I noticed that once again the calendar for the year's sporting fixtures omitted the British Grand Prix whilst mentioning other poxy non events. We have known the Cardiff date for weeks now. I wonder if this omission was just confined to that particular "newspaper" or has anyone else bought a quality paper with such a calendar but showing the G.P. date? It is sickening to see "The World Darts Championship" darts from a place named Frimley Park being given a full page spread in some dailies perhaps mainly due to some fat bellied participants having a strop and calling each other names. If you can't beat 'em then let's join 'em with stories of riders doing handbags at five paces. Bad publicity seems to be the only way we'll attract press interest. Going off at a tangent the Sky Reality T.V. Channel broadcast a prgramme about the most dangerous sports and seemed to concentrate on racing cars doing 360deg turns, rodeos, trotting collisions and falling racehorses! The mind boggles when you see the kinds of smashes our lads have been involved in. Whilst I'd prefer that there are no speedway crashes our lads ought to be given credit where it's due for the guts and determination that they show.
  8. You can't say "your very own London" because the Chuckle Brothers will have already bought it!
