Belle Vue -V- Leicester
bellevueace replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Tonight we saw some good close racing with passing and repassing inside and out, Brady team riding, and we also saw so called throttle jockeys not being able to just sit out wide and blast easily round the boards, it was an enjoyable meeting. Over the years of watching speedway ive seen many "technical" tracks and have seen good racing on some and on others the only time you would see a pass is if the rider in front made a mistake. Each track can have it own merits so agree with your final analysis, why slag any track as Ivan Mauger once said there are no favoutite types of track they are all there to be ridden. Not sure i agree we can beat Sheffield over two legs tbh, i dont think we will get past the semi stage, Sheffield were done for when they lost Woffy who would have made them hard to beat over two legs given their home form, i think an Ipswich v Leicester final would be two good meetings. -

Maybe all tracks should be like Ippo and Plymouth, I beg to differ theres no skill on bigger tracks, against KL there was some very good team riding not easy on a track with so many lines to negotiate and protect, faster speeds more split second decisions have to be made quicker, fact is there is room to race. People complain about no passing then we get complaints when a track actually does provide passing We had Hyde Road widely regarded as the best track in the world, then Kirky lane where we saw riders who raced on the big open spaces were able to adapt to the smaller track. When the NSS was first announced many fans poured cold water on it saying it would never happen and those people have been nothing but negative about it since, you are not included in that by the way. I agree with you its each to his own i would prefer what we have to what Monmore was or Plymouth is with respect to Plymouth. As for tonight i always feel Leicester should be giving us a run for our money as they have riders that can certainly ride the track but they have never really shown that, they are due a good meeting here, as always i just hope to see good racing but no track can ever provide spectacular racing every meeting whether that be BV, Ippo, KL, etc. -

Getting into the play offs and taking advantage of our team that was there for the taking for the final play off spot. -

No surprise really i said at the start of the season we are not good enough, the engine room of Blodorn and Cook isnt the strongest and we have the weakest reserves, really think Kings Lynn missed a trick this season but it does show the weakness of the league we were always going to qualify for the play offs with ease, and it wasnt even a comprehensive aggregate victory 8 points. I cant see us getting past the play off semis, talk of bringing in Cairns is a big jump for the lad and it wont transform the team that much at all. -

So why was there no take up on the offer to host it? The sport could do with more local councils backing their speedway club instead of seeing clubs close at a rapid pace. -

Or go to Sheffield with 18 points and leave with nothing 😉 -

During all the years the British Final was held at Coventry i dont recall any Coventry track expert racking up British Titles, no matter where its held and i agree it should be shared around but as Phil says there were no other tracks willing to host it. Problem today there really isnt any other British rider who is going to threaten the likes of Bewley and Lambert, gone are the days of Collins, Morton, Lee Jessup, Betts, Carter, when the meeting was hotly contested. -

I suppose the question at the moment is will the Structure next season allow for the likes of Doyle, Emil, Kurtz, Bewley? -

True mate the bad luck weve had with injuries seemed to affect us every season starting with the loss of Bjerre in the final against Coventry, we just cursed our luck and accepted it, didnt constantly harp on how we would have won all the time, it gets tedious, also remember when a Les Collins engine failure on the last lap at i think it was at Sheffield cost us the points for another title? We benefitted when Penhall retired so swings and roundabouts, at lest we didnt get all the whinging from heathens fans. -

Where else would you hold a British GP or Speedway of Nations in the UK? The British Final yes share it around, also i dont think the Belle Vue owners are short of a bob or two thanks. -

What makes me laugh is how Ipswich fans say it was an embarrasment celebrating winning the play off last season and how you would have definately beaten us had you had your full team...really? how can you be so sure? Considering how Bewley, Kurtz, Lidsey came bang into form just at the right time would you really have brushed us aside im not sure. As for this the ridiculous vulturing pot its not any other teams fault injuries played a part we would have won the title at Peterborough if Kurtz had been fit but could we be 100% certain... no. At least we took the defeat without the constant 12 month bitterness and saying Panthers fans celebrating was an embarrassment as one other poster previously posted. If the Liverpool v Wimbledon cup final for example had seen Liverpool curtailed by several injuries Liverpool fans today would still be saying injuries cost them the trophy, in reality it didnt did it. Point being nothing is certain in sport. I really thought Ipswich fans were better than this the arrogance weve seen was really something not associated with Witches fans until recent seasons. As for tonight i think an easy home win, we have the top two riders but lack in the engine room and at reserve to challenge this season. -
Good news there is a new company and the club continues, looking forward to my first visit.

Exactly then people complain about the lack of characters

I totally agree the team aspect has disappeared, i dont know if its because nowadays riders are team mates one night and opponents the next there does feel more familiarity in the pits than there used to be. That edge of real rivalry between teams doesnt exist today. Ive never forgot the scenes in the early 70,s during the heat 13 fracas against Leicester, that passion is nowhere to be found today. Riders were loyal to their clubs as you said it was their club, i could never imagine Wilkie, PC, Mort at another club similar Lee was always associated with Kings Lynn along with Betts, Louis and Sanders at Ipswich etc, but they wernt riding for 3 or 4 clubs every other night. I dont know if it makes a difference but riding against someone on a Monday and then with them as team mates on Tuesday there must be more familiarity. Just a thought you are better qualified to judge if this does have an effect. Teams also used to ride as teams good team riding was common place, nowadays in the main its gate and go and leave your team mate to it, team meetings are now individual with the odd rare exception.

If we ride like we did last week heats 13 and 15 wont save us we need more from Cook and Blodorn and Ipswich are stronger at reserve. -
Good points, as for Monday i would tend to say smaller if it is then that is a worry with the likes of Dan, Brady, Doyley, and Emil.

Do you think what BSN pay out to the clubs cover the loss of revenue due to less footfall into the stadium, i would think many families 2 adults + 2 children would make a good saving watching at home? It would be interesting to see how much tv and streaming costs clubs on race day.
