A good and fair response from Phil in the Star this week, this is a situation of PC,s own making. -

Good post, PC was a genius on a bike a rider you would happily travel to go and watch, he personified what speedway racing is all about. Having said that sadly as a person he comes over completely differently, to some extent he alienated himself from the club and appears to think he should be put on a pedestal and pandered to. By comparison look at Alan Wilkinson a legendary skipper who suffered that horrific injury but hold no bitterness whatsoever. As stated PC comes across as being very bitter. One other point, when we moved from Hyde Road to Kirky Lane I was told by someone involved in promoting at the time if PC were promoter we would have no riders as he wouldn't pay the going rate at the time. A fantastic talent on a bike and only for that leg injury in 1977 could have I feel equalled Ivans three consecutive world title wins, he was that good at the time. Nowadays he comes across as very bitter. When this new promotion took over they stated at the pre season meeting everyone is welcome here when asked about Morton and Gordon, the article only gives one view. If all the freebies he wanted handed out actually were the state of the sport would probably be even more dire. -
The side i feel has just become a tad stale and could do with a freshening up, but please no C Holder.

Good GP, Doyle looked nervous and because of that didnt seem to be as fluid on the bike as he normally is, Dudek was superb and pulling it back to 14 points gives him a chance, albeit an outside one. If the pressure gets to Doyle in Australia and he concedes points to Dudek in the early heats it could become very interesting, i hope he pulls it off. As for Emil i also agree he wont become world champion, he dosent have the consistency, i think missing three seasons at GP level has cost him, ive also thought about those missing years, could there have been an off track influence behind the scenes responsible for that? Sponsors money men etc that preferred him to be more visible in his homeland where the EC was being raced? I always had the feeling he was being manipulated rather than missing the GP years of his own accord, as for Lindback when hes on it brilliant when hes not dire, either one or the other, it seems the latter is more commonplace these days.

Bv Vs Lakeside Play-off Semi Leg 2
bellevueace replied to Islander15's topic in National League Speedway
Well the Colts have not failed to win by less than 16 all season at home and that's without Lee Payne who was averaging around 9, with Dan and Jack back along with Rob, and Kyle I expect the Colts to pull this back, if the Hammers restrict us to less than 16 it will be a great effort from them. -
If some fans think any rider sits in the pits and plots to put other riders in hospital then that shows utter stupidity, accidents have always happened and always will in speedway, in the heat of the moment things can get heated but no rider wants to see another in hospital or would purposely put another rider there, Tungate lost control and Freddie left Bjerre with nowhere to go simple really. As for the KO cup well its a bit like the League cup in football its meaningless until the finalists step out at Wembley then we see suddenly full teams appearing, bit like the regular season in speedway really, forget the previous 7 months it all comes down to 4 matches, no wonder regular matches are in front of woeful crowds many people only turn up for the meaningful play offs.

Dont tar us all with the same brush i dont do twitter but whatever some posted on there does not reflect the club in general and has nothing to do with the teams on track performances winning or not. Think its fair to say if Fricke had been available we would have overcome the deficit, if Thorssell was available we might not have. Fact is Cook,Bjerre, and Tungate scoring 11 between them at Monmore underlined the fact we choked again luck evens itself out overall we just were not good enough. I for one have no problem with that.

Congratulations Swindon, you made me eat my words, after heat 1 it looked for a few heats as if the Robins were again in self destruct mode but came more and more into the meeting as it got into the latter stages. Poor performance from Bomber which i was,nt expecting, great ride from Morris in heat 13, and Greaves was superb he,s really come on this season. The tension came out of the tv screen and it was compulsive viewing, down to the last race of the season and not a ludicrous double tac in sight. Doyley certainly did the job and I really hope he can seal the world title Saturday.

I just get the impression that Max wont do the UK next season just a feeling that hes not all that interested.

Totally gutted to get so close i said earlier i thought Lindgren would go through the card and up until the accident he looked the class act that he is, not being biased i think the ref got the call wrong but hey ho, if Lindgren had not been injured we wouldnt have had that oppertunity in the last two races. Never been a fan of Tungate from the day he was brought in, he was woeful at Wolves and never delivered what he was brought in to do at home. Cook is not in Lindgrens class and will be embarrassed in a full GP season, even when getting a flyer Freddie made light work of him. Hope Freddie is ok after his knock, whereas Doyle has been riding within himself no doubt with one eye on the GP which is understandable Freddie has never given Wolves anything less than 100% reminds me of Crumpie in that sense. As for the morons throwing beer cans total disgrace and have dragged the name of our club through the mud, totally inexcusable. If Freddie is out for the final what are Wolves options? Whatever they are no one is going to be able to match Lindgrens scoring and with Thorssell also out the door is wide open for Swindon. Belle Vue need to freshen things up next season things just feel a bit stale at the moment. The last three seasons the first leg has cost us as we have choked each time, Cook, Bjerre, and Tungate scoring a total of 11 at Monmore did for us. Hope the racing is good over the two legs of the final.
-
Thirteen is a big ask to pull back, with Fricke yes without I don't fancy us, Lindgren being able to take a r/r ride whilst Bjerre is not could clinch it as well as Smith just back from injury. As for our record against Wolves over the two league matches irrelevant really as was proven last season, Lindgren is the real class act on show and could easily go through the card, and lets not forget this is a play off and so far we have choked each time.
-
I think if it had gone ahead last night we would have pulled it back but now Wolves will definitely go through as I think they will utilise r/r better than us, also with the ludicrous state the Colts now find themselves in I find myself not really caring what happens, just turn up tomorrow and hope theres good racing and roll on the end of the season, with all the guests, r/r etc weve seen this season I for one need that break and hope by some miracle next season sees the powers that be actually make some radical changes that will turn round the fortunes of the sport.

With all the abuse directed at Kirky Lane Superguest I think theres many that would have liked to have seen Belle Vue close down too, yes it was bobbins but it saved the club, going back to the days of the likes of Hyde Road, Newport, Crayford etc all different types of tracks and surfaces etc I cant remember any fans of any club going on about tracks as many seem to do today. In the words of the great Ivan Mauger they are all there to be ridden.
-
Firstly we acknowledged Kirky Lane was crap and wer,nt always on here defending the place, we were under no illusions about the dog track, and as for witnessing a few years of decent racing have you forgotten Hyde Road? That made the dog track all the more galling. The dog track served its purpose it kept the club alive.
