GP format
sjw ministerofport replied to sjw ministerofport's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I just don,t agree finishing second is a good idea. The main idea of racing is to see as much passing as posible. And as for the idea of finishing last if you can,t get to the front two riders that,s surely going to cause problems in the future. What are we going to witness in the future third and fourth slowing down as much as they can or even pulling up to try and get an advantage. It will happen soon enough, and how do you think new viewers will react to that. I bet they won,t bother turning up as new fans at the turnstyls. -
I really enjoy the GP series and think that it,s great for the sport. I have one or two problems with it though. Rolling at the start is one problem. My biggest dislike though is to see riders only having to get second place except for the final, and the other is tha gamesmanship of riders deliberatley slowing down to loose places to find an easier way through to the next level. I have to say also that the racing is usually better after heat seven when the big guns come in. So why not sixteen riders five races each like the old system. It must be more spectacular, after all it,s win at all costs riding. It would be simple enough rider with the most points on the night his points are added to the table. No need for these GP points. Every race would be as good as the final is now, and all the riders would be on view for all of the meeting. And as for the wild cards, how about five races of invited riders to be run for a place in the top sixteen.

Went to Hyde road to watch cradley v belle vue, i forget which year. Ivan Mauger was as usually brilliant. In the scratch final however, he finished many yards behind Soren and Bernie Persson. It was a tremendose race with the lead changing many many times. It was a Hyde road classic. I forget who won the race but neither rider would give an inch. Sorens style was special because of his height. This is how i remember it but you know how memory can be clouded.

Cradley heatherns v Edinborough Monarcs 38 years ago. I think Edinorough won. A rider, i think his name was Erick gave me his goggles, i think he was a reserve. The smell the noise hooked me for life. Wish i could remember his full name?

This bloke from Dudley dies and goes to the gates of heaven, the angel is there at the gates , "who you are you "? "I'm Steve from Dudley" "Where's Dudley,"?" is it near Cradley speedway"" yeah just up the road". No offence ment to anyone from Dudley, the point is even though Cradley Speedway is finished but it made Cradley famous. I bet if you if you asked people abroad if they had heard of Cradley speedway , or merry hill shopping centre, you would probably get more yeses for the speedway. Lots of houses no entertainment boring Dudley council.

Cardiff - Predictions

Ryan for the double maybe? Looked at the betting odds and saw that Tod is 66/1 had to have a shilling on him. I only hope that the Brits are 1 2 3 that would make the night perfect. -

Is there a ban on airhorns at Cardiff this year? -
I for one don't want the cardiff GP to change. I took my son to the first Cardiff GP he's twenty six and goes to most of the big music festivals and he even managed to get into the Queens garden party bash at the palace, and if you ask him how well Cardiff stands up to those things i can tell you he would not miss the GP for anything. Both years have been so emotional lumps in the throat hair standing up on the back of our necks.Last year we made as much noise as we could and yes my hearing suffered, and this year we will do exactly the same again. I went to Wembley to see the world finals and they were very special. I,ve been to lots of tracks and seen some great racing. Cardiff will always be special to us. I think that all our great riders deserve to be knocked over by the noise and support that arenas like Cardiff produce.

What is the best ever racing VENUE
sjw ministerofport replied to born_2b_mad's topic in Years Gone By
Hyde road was so special, and yes i remember shooting the rapids. I saw Bob Andrews go on there and i'm sure he paid kids price. The best ever race i have seen was at Hyde road. Lets tell you first , my favorite rider is Ivan Mauger, in the greatest race i've seen he finished a long way third behind Bernie Person and Soren Sjosten(pleas excuse spelling). It was the scratch race final, i think they changed places on every lap of the race. it was truely breathtaking, i wonder if anyone else can remember that race? I am and always will be a Cradley fan even though we don't have a home any more.Cradley was a very fair track for all riders. -

World Championship Odds

If you want to bet why not back your rider for each GP. Say for instance you want to back Michael Max. Back him to win each GP as they come. If or when he wins a GP you can use your winning to make a larger stake on the outcome of the final. Say for instance you bet £5 every GP and get the winner once, it's better than betting at the start only to have your rider injured and not to have a chance to collect at the end of the series. As for Tony his odds are good, but you have to think of injuries, i hope he stays fit all season 13/8 seems pretty mean to me. If you back him for each round, i would think that he would win a round or two, so would it not be sense to up your stake and take each round as it comes. Last year i backed Andres Jonsson each round at £2 and his odds plummeted from 66/1 at the start to 14/1. Ok he was unlucky and didn't win a round but i had fun knowing that at any time he was capable of winning. I backed Greg Hancock the year before at 16/1 £2 to win it was my first speedweay bet and he won the GP for me. Use your knowledge to beat the bookies, if a rider is using a new engine and he is flying, or if it's a track that he does well on, or if he gets a wild card and is riding for his country, these are things to look for. Just a thought from a gambler. -
