Monarchs vs Cheetahs Championship 24/06

Wells hurt himself at his day job yesterday apparently -
Big match for both, a Monarchs win probably kills Oxfords hopes of finishing above them (assuming Newcastle have their matches expunged) Changes to both teams due to injury with Fredriksen and Sarjeant prob a week away for the Monarchs while Nicholls, Newman and MacDonald all miss out for the visitors. Monarchs Masters, r/r, Thomson, Castagna, Pickering, Hook, Complin Cheetahs Flint, Heeps, r/r, Summers, Batchelor, Ruml, Kileen Nicholls being out a big blow for the visitors but Newman missing strengthens them greatly with Heeps, Summers and Ruml taking the rides. For those unable to make it match can be live streamed here https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/emtv/live/ymNbbgGDU Edit - Leon Flint now in for Wells

Monarchs vs Diamonds 7.30pm Friday 10th June
gmuncie replied to gmuncie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
You’ll get an email from the club with refund options etc re the track sadly wasn’t really salvageable spoke to a couple of the riders after and the main issue was the volume of rain that had fallen in such a short time meant it had soaked through to the base so even scraping it off would just have left a ice rink underneath. The hope was getting rid of the excess water on the surface would allow to continue but the running of heat 2 the riders didn’t fancy it (can’t blame them) and when it started raining again as the captains were discussing with the ref that was always gonna be that -
The Monarch’s look to end a strong week with a home win over the Diamonds this evening Both teams hampered by injuries/absences Live stream available at https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/emtv Monarchs: Masters, r/r, Thomson, Pijper, Pickering, Hook, Bickley Diamonds: Wells, Morris, Wright, Clegg, r/r, Complin, Smith

Well done Paul for fronting up I don’t think people realise how hard a gig it is. For me I wouldn’t worry to much about your style, you have to do what comes naturally or it’ll sound stilted and you are never gonna please everyone anyway. The one thing I would say though is you can help yourself massively by getting the basics right such as who is in what heat, their names correct and be aware of the score and what’s required by teams. Viewers (particularly when they are partisan to a certain team) will get frustrated and annoyed when those go wrong. Not sure of the studio set up also but I’d also recommend watching the start of the races on the monitor rather than on track if you have one. the view along the start will always give you the best view of if anyone moves etc and allow you to know what’s happening. please take this all as constructive for a first go there is lot to take positives from, Even just stepping up and giving it a go and then not freezing up takes some doing The BSN is adding something needed in British speedway and the first year was always going to be a learning curve, we learned that the hard way at Edinburgh with our stream also

Plymouth v Edinburgh 31/05
gmuncie replied to Jonnybegood's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
You continually miss the point that is the 2nd tier hasn’t gotten stronger the top tier has gotten weaker Why should 2nd tier clubs/fans suffer for this, your way of thinking would be a constant race to the bottom with clubs that have no ambition dictating to those that do. I will not disagree for 1 second that the British league structure works in its current form but for me the blame on that lies purely at the top table and they should be the ones making the changes and taking the risks. Watering down the second tier to make the top tier look stronger achieves nothing on that front. -
Edinburgh Monarchs vs Redcar Bears 7.30pm 20/05/2022

Fantastic battling performance by the Monarchs after losing Sarj in heat 2, speedy recovery to James. Top 4 piling in with 43 points and Jacob making a couple of starts. The Bears will no doubt point to the absence of Wright as Allen never really threatened although it has to be said Charles has only ever scored double figures once at Armadale in 28 appearances so while I think he would have been good for 7 or 8 I don’t think he was the difference between a win and a loss for the visitors. -
A few years ago now there was a rule where averages were split into home and away for guests so when at home you got up to their home average and sane for away. Stopped the horses for courses nonsense we get now where teams seemingly can strengthen time and again

Another tough encounter for the Monarchs with Worrall, Morris and Howarth among the better riders in the league at Armadale not to mention the Thompson boys who both impressed last year Rowe misses out with Kyle Bickley stepping in and the Monarchs at full strength looking to bounce back from that home defeat last time out Fir those that can’t make live stream can be purchased here https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/emtv/live/RFO2Dijnn Friday 13th May: Edinburgh Monarchs v Leicester Lions (Championship), Armadale, 7:30pm WTF MONARCHS: Sam Masters (capt.), Lasse Fredriksen, Paco Castagna, Kye Thomson, Josh Pickering, Jacob Hook, James Sarjeant. No no your right we’ll devalue and weaken the second tier in the off chance that in 3-5 years time the almighty Premiership clubs who are all doing so fantastically well at the moment will deem someone who would have gotten their chance anyway good enough Tbf I guess the way it going it’s probably the only way your team would manage to field a 1-7
-
Would totally agree on the last point, these things tend to be cyclical and the next real crop is a couple of years away as witnessed by the lack of riders at 500cc in the youth championships last year. The 250cc and 125cc classes were bursting with talent that should hit the NDL in the next couple of years
-
If you are good enough you will organically get your shot at championship level though as proven by the fact that people have been able to come up with 1 name only for a young British rider who potentially should be in the championship. Getting young British riders into the championship has and never will be an issue, getting them into the Prem and abroad is where the problem has been in the past and hopefully with rising star still in the prem, no8’s and the premiership junior league as well as the work being done by team GB on the international front then these pathways should be opening. it is not the clubs at championship level to care about teams in the premiership or team gb individually that is the job for the bspl / team gb set up so why should their clubs be damaged by having to water down the league by putting in guys that aren’t ready / not good enough just to fill a quota as happened in places last year.
-
4 out of the 77 riders in the Championship this year are new foreign imports hardly a worrying number I’d say. I would counter argue that the problem is that the top league is to weak rather than the championship to strong. There is a reason that many teams that could move up don’t or that those that move down stick around. The Championship imo is the best product in the UK each team has a mix of experience and youth. Geographically it’s mixed, race nights it’s mixed and the majority of innovation seems to come at championship level also. as for a ‘stepping stone’ if you include the no8’s then out of the 47 named riders so far in the Premiership 43 rode in the Championship before moving up / doubling up including Doyle, Fricke so I’d say the Championship does a pretty good job of finding and developing talent.
-
There’s absolutely zero need for the rising star rule in the championship young riders if good enough get their chance anyway. A quick look through the lineups would confirm that can’t really think of a single young British rider who is realistically championship standard and wanted a ride that doesn’t have one
-
That was Derek’s last season and Aaron’s one and only season in the UK by seasons end they were running out of puff a little. However we started the year with Steve Worrall and Justin Sedgman at reserve so there massive improvements meant the 1-5 were all heatleader standard

£18 pay at the gate with a ‘blue card’ which are completely free and available to all and even cheaper if tickets bought in advance online so no need to pay £20

Speedway Fans - we need to move forward not do the same old things also speedway fans - why did that club try something new surely a wee article on their website would have sufficed
