Oxford vs Scunthorpe/Sheffield 14th July 3pm
BackInTheDHSS replied to Anzum's topic in National League Speedway
William Cairns was very impressive. Only slight caveat is that he didn't have much opposition to beat - Jody Scott never completed a race and Jason Garrad was clearly still feeling his way back after injury. For some context, he was well beaten by Luke Killeen the two times they met, so don't want to get too carried away. But hey, Killeen is arguably one of the best riders in this league and averages over 4.50 in the league above. This was also Cairns' first competitive 500cc meeting, so is only going to get better and better. Going to be a great signing for someone at this level, and I'm sure will do a good job when he steps up to the Championship next year. They'll be plenty of teams fighting over him - reminds me of the Boughen situation a year ago. -

Give it 10 mins once the euphoria of Britain winning has died down, and I'm sure this forum will revert to type and the moaning about the crowd size will take priority. -

Think the fact it's not actually raining is a factor. If it starts, I bet the attitude changes. -

Is your account linked up to Sky correctly? Try logging into your account on a laptop, and going into your account settings (top right drop down, click on 'Account'). It should show you what type of subscription you have, and if it comes via Sky (see picture). If it does state Sky, you'll be getting Discovery+ Standard, which includes all speedway (unless you pay for TNT Sports, then you should get Premium). As for the needing to record stuff, you can re-watch all of the meetings on Discovery+ at your leisure, so it's just as good as having it recorded. -

Exactly. ROC in 2020 (2021) was very different from AIN (2024). Only 33 athletes in total are expected to compete under AIN in 2024. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it by the way, just pointing out that it's not just speedway that's preventing Russian athletes from competing as a neutral in team events. I can't think of any other sport that allows it. Individually is very different of course. -

It's not in the Russians case though is it? They don't compete for their country, they compete individually and with no country allegiance. All those 'team events' you mentioned won't include any neutral athletes, other than in an individual capacity (no relays etc.) The 'neutral' flag also covers athletes from more than just Russia (Belarus as well). The neutral flag won't appear in the medals table, either, for that exact reason. So it's a completely different scenario. -

They compete in individual events only, though. There are no team events. -
Good grief, did you watch the meeting? Did you see the crash Zmarzlik had? Like to see you continue riding after that.
-
What are you talking about? Why would Britain take out one of their main two riders for a reserve if they are doing well? A reserve is there to replace a rider who isn't performing as he should, or (hopefully not) gets injured. Simples. If Brennan is replacing Lambert or Bewley then Britain will already be in trouble. Just look at last night. Vicentin came in to replace an underperforming Covatti, and Janowski came in to replace a shaken-up Zmarzlik. You didn't see Sweden bringing in Berntzon for Lindgren or Thorssell.

If either of them get a ride, it will most likely mean Great Britain are not doing very well! So hopefully we don't see them.

I don't see why Emil and Artem etc. can't compete in the Grand Prix under a neutral flag (i.e like Medvedev at Wimbledon), but team sports is a completely different matter. If they are competing under a neutral flag, they essentially have no nation to represent and therefore have no team to represent. I can't think of a single sport where neutral athletes compete in a team. -

Seeing as the paying public would have only got a £3 refund if it had been called off before heat 8, they probably did them a favour. They don't have to pay for another ticket now!
