Playing around in the garden with a gun and some mates and he managed to shoot himself in the head. He has recovered and he came over to Newcastle to present Archie Freeman (who idolised him) with his British 150cc Championship in 2019. Lovely guy, brilliant gater and he lives in Denmark and rides a big road bike. Could have been a great rider. -
The most dangerous riders

Kenni Larsen is the last rider people would have thought as dangerous. His gating ensured he was nearly always coming out of the second bend in first place. One of the nicest riders to ride in British Speedway -
Vinnie Foord - is he too dangerous?

Yes his sticky out leg going into the corner was often his downfall. With that style he had to keep balance using his leg out and often when it lost traction he was heading for the fence and often taking other riders with him. Other crashes were when he just rode into other riders who got out of control and used the safety fence. -

The reason Newcastle Speedway will not return is that the Stadium Owners - (Reuben family)- have removed every thing Speedway including the track, the fence, the pits, the electrics so they look like they will never have speedway while they own the stadium. In addition all the track staff for the dogs hate speedway and used to destroy things every week after the dogs on the Saturday night. When I used to go to the track early on Sunday mornings to arrange the erection of the air fence, my first job was find what fence tension wires had been cut and needed replacing. I used to report the damage to Alan Hedley who told the stadium management who did not respond. Equipment used to be hidden around the track which we had to find before we could get the stadium ready for speedway that night. The irony is Rob used to be stadium track staff before and during his riding for us and was suspected of being involved with the others on damaging the track and equipment. -

Ironically Rob Jr was talking to a mate of mine just a couple of weeks ago and said he thinks BroughPpark could possibly reopen for Speedway in a few years time. Dellusioned and dangerous. -
Stuart Robson works fitting out peoples lofts. Nice guy Stuey.

RIP Len. Had many discussions with Len when I was a promoter at Newcastle Speedway and I was always entertained by what he said. Views on everything and often spot on with what he said. Nice man who saw the greater picture not just as a promoter. RIP Len

Unfortunately Yes. Tried to ride Lubos off his bike at Stoke coming off the 4th bend and then came around and stood on his bike dangerously revving his bike pointing at Lubos being attended on the ground by track staff and medics. Crazy guy copying his father and egged on by one of the promotion and crowd. Not the only incident Diamond fans hate him of course. 😉 -

Yes in early Amateur meetings at Redcar at the start of the season last year. Top riders in the meeting were Ashton, Harrison and Freeman. -

Sad to hear this news, I agree he was a Nice guy, always available to talk to, and will be sadly missed..
-
Agreed . His process was made by better gating and a change in attitude and I think life style. On the night he could be brilliant and formed a great winning partnership with David Bargh. I think he either won or was second in a big international completion held at Kings Lynn about 1993 ,. It was quite out of the Blue. Happy days..

Quite agree. Archie refused to ride at reserve knowing his gating was crap at that time, and would not score points. He was presurised by Rob to ride but it didn't help his confidence. He was guaranteed points payment but it did more harm than good for his progress. The following year he was signed by the Belle Vue Colts at reserve along with Freddie Holder, and he then made good progress usually being the highest average. Great pairing Archie and Freddie.

Edinburgh vs Glasgow 5/4/24

Neila, I have been to Workington several times last year and I am well aware of the design of the track. The biggest comment that people talk about is not being able to go from bend3 and then to behind bend2. This is the easiest route if fans were an allowed to go through the gates and up the bank when there is no bikes entering of leaving the track. If that was possible it would be the favourite route to the 1st an 2nd bends if the detour around the pits area was eliminated. -
I used to stand with him on the home straight when I came down to Ippy. Very Interesting and respectful, I enjoyed his company. RIP John.

So the complaint by many is why you can't go from bend 3 to bend 2 because of the pits access gap, and you have to go the long way around the back of the pits to reenter the track up the bank and the back of the second bend. Earlier statements were 3rd and 4th bends were being filled in so you can walk around to the home straight so that raises the question how do they then access the track with the tractors from the 4th bend.. I find people complain more about not being able to go direct from the 3rd bend to the second bend without going around behind the pits. -
Yes. I am vey puzzled by Mulford. I used to see him riding for Belle Vue Colts regularly when I used to take Archie down and he was tremendous right from his first meeting. I thought he was going to be the next superstar. I speculated that he would be out of the reserve berth and straight into the team at Redcar last year, but he really struggled and stayed in the reserve berth and had a very low average. On song he is powerful and fast and could be a top rider, but he doesn't look like making it big time. It is a shame as he has got what it takes.

Yes I get that, but there must be an opening somewhere to get bikes and riders from the pits and on to the track.? -
I think Stoke lost their track due to the expansion of the industrial estate. They only rented their land.

Does that mean the the riders will emerge from a tunnel to the track Neila ? -
It is confirmed and yes an unfortunate late decision for Redcar.

Yes the route to get to the 3rd/4th bends is not great, but I am reading that it is being solved this week. Probably allowing fans in the straight part and having gates when the bikes are going on or off the track between races. -
There might have been reasons for that.
