There's no BSN nor KO Cup in my "brave new world" of 2H 2A. NDL clubs would generally be expected to run on a night other than the parents race night, leaving the Championship side free to arrange meetings on these nights. Belle Vue and Leicester have no problem doing this. Middlesbrough raced Belle Vue on Friday June 7, a night that could have been used to restage the rained off Glasgow v Redcar fixture which currently doesn't look likely until September.

It's quite wrong that the NDL tail is being allowed to wag the Championship dog. Things must change for next year. All Championship teams signed up for a theoretical maximum of 18 home meetings - 8 league; 4 BSN; 4 KO Cup and 2 Play offs - so 16 league meetings (2H and 2A) and two play offs would be the same commitment .

They are certainly being treated that way by the Championship promotions who still haven't come up with any dates for the semis of both competitions. This is developing into a repeat of the Jubilee Trophy which died from apathy. We've an enforced blank week for the SON compepetitions, then most clubs have a fairly full fixture list through August, so its a bit hard to see when/how they will be fitted in before the play offs.

Right now it would seem that the junior league is the only stepping stone between the training track and our Championship side. Whether thats too big a step is certainly a fair question and an NDL side would certainly be one way to bridge it. However it may be costly and may also be an obstacle to rearranging Championship fixtures.

Facennas don't seem to think so.

May be we should try a junior event on a Friday to see what the turn out would be. Is it the Sunday afternoon race day or the standard of the meeting that is putting supporters off? What crowds do they get at Armadale for NDL meetings?

Neutral venue won't work. That was the initial plan for the ill fated Jubilee Competition. Nuff said!

Hardly every month never mind every week, and isn't it the same distance from Glasgow to Poole/Plymouth as Poole/ Plymouth to Glasgow.
-
Only three Liverpool riders (Craven 11; Subritsky 7 Morton 3) score at Poole in a 51 -21 defeat in September 1960. Only 12 heats raced in the first PL season though seven riders in both sides.

Without looking it up, it happened a couple of times at Peterborough in the 80s.

Oxford vs Poole 19th June Championship

Doubt the league are too bothered about it. You need to be at every meeting covered by a season ticket to come out marginally ahead, so its a minor benefit but one that doesn't happen every year. -
Would have said it's due to us not making the semis in either the BSN or the KO Cup but these ties haven't been raced yet. Indeed I don't think the dates have even been agreed. May be the full KO Cup draw - like the tennis at Wimbledon where the path to the final is known - should be made ahead of the league fixtures being drawn up and integrated into them.

It's a big ask for Pijper, Pearson and Starke to hit the ground running this weekend as their last meeting was about three w weeks ago.

Glasgow gave the same discount after their meeting with Berwick which also got abandoned after heat six. While this is in line with the standard BSPL terms and conditions, it's derisory and badly needs updating/ upgrading. -

Might Claus be one of the Bandits guests? Would seem to be a good choice. -
It becomes 5.18 (5.44 at home) from July....or replace him with a 5.00 signing.

Just about unbeatable around Shielfield and his overall average suffered from bike troubles at Nelson where he scored 1 from 3 rides.

Thanks. Not as impressive as I first thought.

I think my views were coloured by him having rare heat wins at both Sunderland and West Ham, the latter in 1968.

Anyone remember Bill riding at their tracks - in particular at Sunderland and West Ham, two tracks where he scored well? https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2024/the-eldest-mcmillan

Rye House?

Don't know if this is unique but Glasgow only had three riders who scored points in their PL meeting at Newcastle in 1964. No one was injured and all riders completed the meeting which ran it's full course. Anyone remember anything to equal it? Full details are in the final section of this page at https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2024/twas-60-years-ago-unusual-race-formula

Remember the night four Russians had a staggering nine rides each at The Firs? Has any rider ever had more races in a meeting? https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2024/twas-60-years-ago-unusual-race-formula

Berwick perhaps?
