I suspect they could not win either way on that one, start earlier and some travelling fans will complain they can not get to the match in time for heat 1
-
And the heat that should have been declared unsatisfactory start but no one noticed the tapes went up lop sided Thats one I have a hard time explaining to friends I persuade to try watching a match - why its started with what looks like elastic strung across the track - guess no one has come up with a better, affordable alternative, but to newcomers to the sport it looks really odd.

True, at least we are moaning about a delay fixing the fence, not waiting to find out is a rider is ok
-
Dont know what they cost, but really for a premiership side I'd have thought they would have a spare section ready to slot in when one gets damaged. Glad I decided against paying for train down & over night accommodation to watch tonight, next thing we will be up against a curfew and lose the last few heats

His last seasons kevlars arent they?

dont know why, but yes I get that page, think started about two weeks ago

I do buy a programme when I go to Redcar and read some of the content when I get home, but don't fill in the racecard when I am at the track. Same as someone else said, if I want to keep tabs on rider scores I check updates site on my mobile. It would be interesting to know if the clubs make a profit on the programmes from the advertising. I have been assuming they do & that's partly why I get one, if sales were too low they would probably struggle to sell the advertising space. I suspect clubs would lose out financially if they dropped back to a basic race card print out with club news on the other side.

Its been put back now. Either someone messed up big time when updating the website, or there was a suggestion on twitter that it had been hacked

That does tie in with the published accounts and sound more realistic. Seemed odd to me that the new company would taken on a VAT debt from the previous company, as I have seen suggested in a few places, but I am learning that speedway has a few rules that dont make sense to me.
-
cant see what the point of that would be if the club is already insolvent & with mention of a hefty debt to HMRC for unpaid VAT from previous ownership it sounds like Newcastle is. Surely all it would do is put a possible buyer off & if club went to liquidation most of the fine would be written off when any assets shared among creditors.

Sad to see another team go, feels like every time there is some good news about an attempt to bring a team back we get hit with a a couple of lots of bad news. No I am not the typical speedway fan & I am asking a lot of questions about the sport, but to me its part of a rich motorsport heritage in this country and as a motorsport fan I don't want to see any part of that lost. Feel for all the loyal fans & volunteers, the riders and don't forget the youngsters in the Sapphires.

Feel really sorry for Bickley, surely they must have known this was on the cards when they signed him. Talk about getting kicked when you are down

If the lad is into other motorsport he will probably understand guests as Moto GP teams are obliged to find a replacement rider is one of their main riders is injured. The team contract with Moto GP is to compete every round.

Interesting comment. I have started to become aware from chatting to fans at Redcar and on social media that not many would class themselves as bikers. And I have failed in getting my biker friends to even try watching speedway live - one or two will watch on tv. I am a biker & my main involvement has been with road racing. I enjoy watching a good speedway match, recall really loving going to Exeter when I was a lot younger, but coming back to watch after a break I am finding it difficult to get into the team mindset - keep looking for a team I can really get into following, but its individual riders I will pick up on & they are all over the place
-
starting off wet tarmac after track watering would be somewhat exciting to say the least.
-
Add to that the guests within the same league and that does makes it difficult to really get a strong sense of who a team are and get into following them as a new fan. I actually forgot who Bomber rides for in Championship the other day and totally mis interpreted a comment someone made to me on updates.
-
Quite possible or it could be that I didn't go enough to notice that side of speedway. I was based on Isle of Man so only got to watch when I was back in England for holidays or visiting family. The teams and league structure does set speedway apart from other motorsports I have been much more involved with so I guess that makes for a noticeable difference is the attitude of some fans. Learning a lot about the sport this season now I have got a lot more involved.

The other thing I don't remember in relation to crowds is venomous comments in foul language directed at riders, which completely ruined my last visit to Redcar. The group I stand with keep the comments to the riders performance on the night and the language reasonable, but there was a bigger crowd at the Poole match and I noticed the difference. One in particular was vicious about a couple of the Redcar lads.

I have been trying to work out whether I had rose tinted memory syndrome of the atmosphere and racing at county ground when I used to go in the early to mid 90's & if I recall it as better than it was because it was an occasional treat and change from road racing as I was based on the Isle of Man back then. I don't notice the grading breaks so much if I am watching live stream at home as I tend to have grabbed a few screen shots to sketch from, but although I have enjoyed the racing at Redcar this season when I have been offered a lift up, I am feeling that the atmosphere is not what I remember at speedway matches and I didn't recall meetings being so drawn out.

It was and the phrasing did suggest the option for a return in future. What ever the behind the scenes discussions really were there was at least an attempt by Berwick to make the public statement a bit more dignified & supportive.
