  1. It's Manchester, said by many to be the wettest city in the UK. What will happen if BOTH get rained off? Yes, one could be staged on the Sunday (if it stopped raining by then) but when/could the other be staged?
  2. Torun will have a GP next year, it will replace Cardif!
  3. What about Reading (at least it is west of London). Smallmead Stadium is no more, but the land itself hasn't been built on yet. Surrounded by industrial units it shouldn't get many house owners moaning about the noise. I don't get why someone will not give it another try or is the Council not willing to give permission?
  4. Thanks Skipper, I now know a lot more now. Apologies for not thanking you before, but I have had trouble logging onto this site this week.
  5. I'm afraid I do not know anything about NORA. I assume that it is unlicensed meetings, but what does NORA stand for? Also, how many tracks, and where are they? Do they race against each other or is it the riders who turn up on the night race each other? Sorry, if I seem dim but I would like to know more.
  6. What would happen if rider A, on gate 1 and is already on a warning makes rider B on gate 2 touch the tapes. .Are they both excluded or is rider B "saved" by another rider being excluded first? Also,, is the rule the same if the incident happens to riders in gate 1 and 4 where the rider who touches the tapes cannot claim he was conned into it? Has this happened at any time, in the past?
  7. For the sake of the young ones on here, You mean a Lambretta or Vespa, not todays E-Scooter!
  8. interesting. Of the ten tracks mentioned in CO and TR, eight do not exist (or at least do not run speedway) anymore. Of the two that do still have clubs, one of them was shut down for a few years before reopening a year or so ago.
  9. I wonder if his decision to put the club into administration was helped by the Football league making it much harder to sell a club's stadium to it's owner?
  10. Would it give the stadium more protection if it was awarded an Asset of Community Value (ACV)? I know it would provide protection if the stadium was sold, but can an ACV stop it being demolished or left standing empty and not used? If this is a way of protecting it it needs a (local?) group such as a speedway fans/parish council/ other groups etc. to organise a campaign to save the stadium. Fans of Reading FC have got an ACV on their stadium to stop their reckless owner selling it for non-football use. so a precedent has been set, but of course the Reading Borough Council was very willing and quick to award the ACV,. Would the Swindon Council be as willing, though?
  11. It could be that the Cradley track will be the home of "Wolves". as they don't exist anymore.
  12. Zmarzlik signed a contract, he didn't adhere to it, knowing the punishment. His fault! Could the the late punishment be because he was wearing the "wrong" kevlars for the main meeting. Maybe if he had changed into the "right" kevlars for the main event, nothing would have been said? Was he told in the meantime to change, If so, his fault again.
  13. We watch speedway in different room to the computer, but it is connected by cable. Have found a language button on the TV remote and Hey presto get a language list on the telly. in the top right of the telly. screen. Welcome back Kevin!
  14. Thank you Beercellar1966. We watched it this morning "on demand" , if that is the right wording, on tv. will see if there is a button tomorrow when we watch tonight's match, as can't see it ;live. Anyone know if there is, or how to get commentary if no button displayed?
  15. As I only subscribe to Discovery Plus, will I still be able to watch British Speedway and/or the Grand Prixs this year?
  16. If I remember correctly, this year, for this year only, the Wold Cup reverts to the old, pre Discovery Plus format. The plan was for the old format to be every three years but I don't know if that has changed.
  17. I have heard a rumour that the Grand Prix's and British Speedway coverage is going to be on BT Sport and not Discovery in 2023.. Can anyone conform or deny this? If it is only going to be on BT will I be able to access it on a modern smart TV or will it need an external box? Will I have to pay subscriptions to BT and/or Discovery and what is the cost? Any information on this latest development would be welcome.
  18. Just to throw a spanner in the works R & R. Would the rider still get a point if he was injured in a incident for which he was deemed at fault and was excluded? Technically he hadn't raced that evening, , would he also get the point if he got injured in the practise session?
  19. And, then of course was the Californian Poppies, who rode at California in England, (sometimes called Little California) near Wokingham, Berkshire. They closed before I became a speedway fan, although I did see speedway there in my pre-teenage years. I cycled from my home in Whitley Wood, near the now defunct Smallmead Stadium, to the fair etc. that was there at the time but saw a few heats before it was time to head home with my brothers. It was to be at least another decade before I attended another meeting- staying for the whole meeting this time-with a couple of fellow Reading FC fans who I had became friendly with, who were also speedway fans. We often managed to attend an away footie match and then go to a local speedway track, but mostly attended the Racers meetings and also the Wimbledon Dons, which my wife still thinks of "her team".
  20. Being fairly new to this forum, I am gradually looking at some older posts. Well done Nutz, it must have been quite an effort to amass all this data. However I see that in the defunct tracks you haven't included the original Reading track, at the Greyhound Stadium, Oxford Road. I am sorry I cannot help with any details as it was so long ago I don't even remember who held the track record there.
  21. I think the "E-Ticket only" also helped to keep people away. My wife, son, two grandchildren and myself would have gone if we were allowed to print out tickets as we have been able to in the past. The no printout email ticket policy prevents oldies (some may say dinosaurs) like me who do not have, and do not want a modern phone, at up to date prices, which many of us cannot afford, are being discriminated against, in this modern technical world.
  22. Why is Australia the only non-European country considered? Why not try the USA? Even New Zealand should be able to hold a Grand Prix round. It may give the sport there a boost, were Briggs and Mauger the last well known New Zealanders in our sport? I seem to remember that even Argentina was also spoken about at one time. I think we should have at least one round away from Europe every year, it would make a change.
  23. You are right, Jaizer, if a team wins both Table and Play offs, they deserve to get both "prizes".
