That depends how you assess the product. Anyone watching speedway at Ashfield would say that the racing has improved year on year. If that is the product and it has improved then does the points limit really have much impact? Have admission prices increased by much more than inflation in recent times? It seems that too much importance is placed on the points limit every year by promoters and fans alike when there is so much more to the sport. Speedway fans often like to throw stones at their own sport rather than enjoy the sporting spectacle which is just as good as most other sports. There is room for improvement but are things so bad to warrant the frequent negativity that is on display on this forum?

This point hits the nail on the head. While everyone would wish to see a higher points limit, probably most promoters even, all it would do currently is enable the richer clubs to hoover up the scarce heat leaders and leave the poorer clubs without any top end strength. While the points limit exists then it should be set at a level that encourages healthy competition in the league otherwise there is no point having a points limit at all.

Speedway Managers - What's The Point?
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
If there were no team managers, who would fulfil the four duties that you 'literally' feel is all they do? If you have ever been involved in any sport at any level then you will know how much management goes on behind the scenes to keep the wheels turning logistically, not including any of what happens on a match day. -
Alan Grahame Memorial Meeting
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to brianbuck's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Correct that hopefully a small portion of land as you suggest could be found for such a multi-purpose speedway-focused stadium. They aren't going to wish to include some shabby facility though. As a minimum something of the like of the NSS should be aspired to as it is far more appealing for such a large scale development than something like a Leicester-type facility as an example. Speedway will forever be small-fry if we don't aspire to be big. -
A Development thought for 2025!

All motorsports are expensive but it doesn't stop thousands competing in different disciplines every weekend all over the UK! Making it more affordable may help but it is no silver bullet. Build the tracks, offer the track time and they will come! Fiddling with the format of the NDL will change nothing. -

With the team building restrictions then it will always be necessary to bring others in to plug the gaps to get under the limit. It is convenient to ignore literally every other member of the current Leicester team that has been developing through the Cubs. Foord, James, Springer, Joe Thompson. Max Perry would for sure have been a Cub again but for the limit. Not to mention Dan Thompson who made his early strides with the Lions. If every team, and some but very few others can and do, could offer the same opportunities and track time as Leicester then the sport in this country would be in a far better place. That doesn't help it be achieved but it is what should be aimed at. -
Why change the habit of a lifetime!

A Development thought for 2025!
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to MillenTheVillen's topic in National League Speedway
Is it the lack of youth meetings being run and the viability of running them that is the issue rather than tinkering with the format? Leicester winning the league by miles is a sign of their commitment to youth development and track time rather than some win at all costs mentality. All tracks should aspire to have the output of quality young riders that Leicester achieve... however they manage it! -

Edinburgh have had a home, away or NDL fixture scheduled every Friday since 5th April. Not so easy is it! -

If only every club was as fortunate with the weather as Berwick have been this season! -
Each to their own but are these people cutting off their nose to spite their face? Averages are an abstract concept that don't actually make that much difference on track. There has been some good racing and obviously excellent results so what's not to like? Guys going round fractions of a second faster don't necessarily mean it's a better product!

Berwick v Oxford 03/08/24 Championship
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to Normski's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
3 or 4 teams at the top of the league smashing the others home and away doesn't help attendances either. There needs to be the right balance or there is no point having a points limit at all. If most heat leaders were pushed out then why did none of them sign for Plymouth? -

Berwick v Oxford 03/08/24 Championship
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to Normski's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
If the limit had been any higher than 38 then the league would have been even more a league of two halves than 2023 was - a battle between the haves and the have-nots. It was a necessary evil due to the number of heatleaders that departed the league and in fact probably needed to be even lower as Plymouth's struggles to get a number 1 demonstrate. Perhaps it is Glasgow's poor team building that is troubling you. -

Could only happen if teams ran off race night again. So many Friday tracks that don't wish to shift to their back up night now. -
Will this be streamed?

From the good old rule book... 010.3.1 Transfer Window No team changes will be allowed once that team has completed 75% of their fixtures in the following competitions: - Premiership League Championship League & BSN Series combined Except riders returning to the team after injury who can only replace their original replacement. This season there are 16 Championship fixtures and 4 BSN Series fixtures for each team. Looks like Workington raced their 15th (75%) fixture on Saturday so can they make this change?

Speedway of Nations 2024
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Though the crowds will no doubt have been adversely affect by the weather, the racing certainly has not. Despite the rain the track has been terrific on each occasion with lots of great racing and passing throughout. Just because there is a bit of spray and mud flying doesn't mean the racing is poor! If anything it has been a remarkable achievement to proceed essentially unaffected despite rain falling all week. Well done Belle Vue, all the riders, and everyone involved! -
Oxford Vs Workington June 26 2024
SpeedwaySlider72 replied to Anzum's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Looks like the Championship will have to reduce in strength to provide a platform for these youngsters to establish themselves as the NDL is no longer viable. So perhaps it is not that some of these kids shouldn't be riding in the Championship but that some of the top riders should be moving on up. -
