Despite his high average of around 8.52 i don't think Basso is a heat leader in the same mould as a Lawson or a Pickering yet, he's great around Ashfield but struggles away against the top tier riders and there is a bit of a gulf in class there at the moment. That's not to say that he won't progress to that level by the end of the season as i think he is destined to be a terrific rider but right now he's a similar type of rider as Tom Brennan and Leon Flint. He's good (and VERY entertaining) but he's not a number 5 yet.

SGB Championship 2023 Confirmed Signings

I've always liked Keleher as i've often thought there was more to come from him but i think Tate is a bit like Pearson was last year, a little bit young at this stage of his development for the Championship. I could be wrong though. -

The signing of Adam Roynan on a 3.47 average leaves just two teams (Birmingham and Plymouth) to declare their final rider -
Video just released from the BBC Archives about former Monarch (1960) and crooner(!) Reg Luckhurst during his last season in speedway. A genuine character who started out in 1959 and is still alive and well at the age of 87. Check out the fashions too! 1975: Reg Luckhurst - SPEEDWAY RIDER | Tonight | Classic BBC Sport | BBC Archive - YouTube Your Cheatin' Heart Reg Luckhurst - YouTube

SGB Championship 2023 Confirmed Signings
Nickinho replied to Nickinho's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It's probably not very noteworthy but i've noticed that of the riders to so far declare for a Championship club this season none of them are newcomers to British speedway. I'm now left wondering when the last time this happened. Anyone know? -
People still watch telly??? I think the last time i watched anything was last years Superbowl. TV shows are absolute garbage these days.

I think he is used to the smaller tracks of the Championship so he will probably be fine. He's a racer and he's not the tallest so the smaller tracks will probably suit him better. -

It's absolutely fine. I'm always glad that someone posts anything in here because this is the only confirmed signings page which hasn't been pinned by the mods. I've tried emailing them but i may as well have written a letter to Santa. -
SGB Championship 2023 Confirmed Signings
Nickinho replied to Nickinho's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
That's pretty much my prediction except i'd rate Oxford a bit higher as they have 3 heat leaders, 2 more than capable mid-order riders (Jenkins and Heeps) and a lad at reserve (Luke Killeen) who i rate very highly. -

Have a happy new year everyone when it comes! -
My predictions (although form and injury will surely play their part to scupper them...) Berwick - not too bad, they will be on the edges of the play-offs all year. Birmingham - yikes!!! Edinburgh - they've kept 5 of their seven riders from last year and that will be something which they can use to their advantage. Top 4. Glasgow - a good mix of youth and experience plus a huge home track advantage will make sure that they are around the top places - Top 4. Oxford - if Cameron Heeps and Jordan Jenkins can help their top three i can see them being in the play-offs come the end of the season. Plymouth - if Dan Gilkes can become a heat leader and Paul Starke the strongest no. 2 in the league then this could be their year - Top 4, potential winners. Poole - Provided they resign Lawson and the Cook's continue their trajectory they will be up there once again - Top 4, potential winners. Redcar - Jason Edwards and Jake Mulford will be among the strongest reserves in the league and will help their top heavy team immensely. Play-offs for sure. Scunthorpe - On paper they don't look the strongest but speedway is raced on shale (boom! boom!) so i think they are also capable of reaching the play-offs. Regardless of whichever team you support have a happy new year everyone!

I'm the same. I can't stand the sight of James Corden along with that continuous laugh of his.

Is that due to the Newcastle debacle?

Anyone know how i can pin this thread? All the other league's confirmed signing threads are pinned on the main boards except this one. Just wondering. -
I think Connor Bailey just squeezes in after the British rider reduction so he could be the last rider announced.
-
That leaves no room for Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen then

Any clues? Does one have long hair perchance?

Lawson dropped for George Congreve? -
To be fair to the lad Ashfield is a very intimidating track for younger riders, the first time i saw Jacob Hook at Glasgow he looked like he'd just started riding speedway for the very first time.

SGB Championship 2023 Confirmed Signings
Nickinho replied to Nickinho's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I'd say Richard Lawson is a likely bet for the second heat leader role but as for the other two i have no ikea. If Lawson is coming bcak then they will have the space to bring in two 4-pointers at reserve (provided that Jack Thomas was brought in to be the number 2 as stated) It'll be a strong team. -
Plymouth look very good with 3 heat leaders and Dan Gilkes ready to hit the big time if he avoids injury. I agree about Birmingham, they look like potential wooden spoon candidates in 2023.

For 2023 i predict a year of bad weather, a 2-month unexpected break during the two hottest months of the year and the standard of food at most tracks to become much, much worse. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
