Sheffield vs Belle Vue 30/09/21 POSF 1st leg
MattB replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Oh you can be sure if there's a way to screw up, then the BSPL will leave no stone unturned to find it -
Shush. You'll spoil the surprise...

When they persist in having all the major finals in October, they really do get what they deserve

Well done Peterborough. Place in the final is theirs to lose. To many of our riders simply did not turn up
-
Totally agree. If I was Rob Grant or any other promoter, I'd want written assurance from the BSPL that they will look to make changes this winter with view to making the sport more affordable to run and to make it fairer to allow everyone a good chance to compete. If I didn't get that, I'd walk away so as not to waste anyone's time. That said, as an "honoury Geordie" through family ties, I'd delighted that Newcastle will run again in 2022. I wish them all the best

Premiership Play-Off Ties CONFIRMED
MattB replied to BartoszZmarzlikFan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Clowns to the left of me. Jokers to the right....... -
Not a great crowd again here tonight
-
True. Peterborough moving Harris to number 2 was a key factor tonight. Lyon outwitted Adams from start to finish
-
Absolutely no complaints tonight. Peterborough did a job on us and deserved the won. Not helped by Peter Adams daft use of the rider replacements leaving us with Leon Flint having to go in heat 13. We'll have to ride miles better than that in the playoffs
-
On good race between Kemp and Flint aside, it's very strung out so far
-
Frightening thing is that this is exactly the sort of statement that the BSPL would likely put out...
-
Dull so far
-
If anything the tracks even worse now. Clouds of dust everywhere. Will this sport stop at nothing to kill itself?!
-
I'm here and it looks ok to me, although I'm not out there riding
-
Two of the fastest times of the season in the first 4 heats.

Belle Vue -V- Sheffield (Eurosport) Monday 06/09
MattB replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
How I wish the current generation of commentators (in all sports) could learn three things from the late great Richie Benaud: (1) commentary is not a forum for personal opinion; (2) hyperbole is a poor substitute for an articulate and accurate description of the actual events unfolding in front of you; and (3) neutrality is everything. -
Birmingham v Poole. 1st September 2021
MattB replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
In fairness he's hardly going to say "the tracks diabolical" over the tannoy..... Good win for Birmingham even allowing for Poole losing Nielsen, but it's a long time since I've seen so much processional racing in a meeting -
Compared to Belle Vue's last visit to Monmore, the racing last night was not of the same standard. What made last night better was the atmosphere, which was electric - as is always the case when Wolves and Belle Vue meet
-
Absolutely. I love the sport, but even if I had millions of pounds in the bank, I would not entertain investing a penny of it into British Speedway in its current operating model. I'd may as well go into out the back garden, light a fire and spend the evening tossing fifty pound notes onto it.

Peterborough v Wolverhampton Monday 23rd August
MattB replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Disappointed not to take at least a point out of that. Schlein and Masters getting six between them cost us -
Very true. However, I'm sure Birmingham fans won't need reminding about their meeting with Swindon a few years ago when Alun Rossiter managed to get a meeting Swindon were going to lose abandoned because of the rain
-
Good idea in theory. However, as is often the case in speedway, it will be open to abuse if the away team and promoter decide they "don't fancy it" and take the gifted point
-
I will never understand why clubs have whacking long fixture gaps during the middle of the season, and then come September they start flapping around trying to cram all the dates in. Even less so this year with a shorter season leaving little room to manoeuvre
