The drug testing company used turn up in the pits only about an hour prior to the start time & only the Referee will be told to expect them. As the rules state that all riders need to be at the track at least an hour before they should not be missing. I'm not saying it has not happened in the past but the testers learn quickly. There can be no excuse for taking any type of drug, the selected riders are asked before any testing is done have they taken any drugs at all & even headache & flu medication would be suggested. I know a rider once failed an alcohol test after using mouthwash. It was a minimal reading & the tester offered him time &suggested he rinse with cold water then the second test was a zero reading.

Thats a 30% success for the host but in those 23 events was the 4-3-2 system used in all of them. -
Championship Pairs - Sep 1st

With the scoring system used in pairs events I don't think there is much in the "home track advantage" argument. Not having to beat both riders is a different kettle of fish. However the short format will mean maximum scores will be the deciding factor for qualification to the latter stages. -
Berwick were much handicaped by the R/R only returning 2 points but even that a big win for the chargers was never going to be in doubt

The SCB/ACU only has the power to ban a rider in this country. However it is seen to be sensible to advise the FIM & the riders own FMN (National federation) & they may impose their own punishments considering the reasons for the ban

I'd have to agree I think the home team 56+

I have enjoyed attending in the past but in recent years have failed to find out the date of this event. Does anyone know when or if there will be one in 2023?

Poole v Oxford 9/8/23 Championship
Technik replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I agree, Poole's success over many seasons & either league is largely down to Mr Ford & his ability to treat his riders like employees & not mates. I*f they are not returning the scores he would like & the team are suffering he's not slow in making a change & most of the time he makes a sound choice. Maybe if more clubs adopted a simular strategy they may find the success that Poole have had for so long -
Poole v Oxford 9/8/23 Championship

sometimes I think the public must take the blame, It's not like the start time is different. if you were to go to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge & arrive at 15:05 you would expect to miss the kick off. why do speedway clubs hold on for these late comers when the stadium is waiting for the start at the advertised time -
Poole v Oxford 9/8/23 Championship
Technik replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
On balance I'll pick Poole to win by 10. I don't think winning at Poole is important to Oxford at this stage as long as they can take the bonus point & keep winning at home they will top the league -
British Final 2023
Technik replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I have to agree to some degree, our National championship has lost a lot of it's prestige. Gone are the days when it was a stepping stone to the world finals via the overseas & inter-continental rounds, Todays champion only receives a wildcard entry for the British GP where like most wildcards they are only there to fly the federation banner & make the numbers up without troubling the score board to often. -
Berwick v Redcar 29/07/23 @7-00pm

I'm a little confused with Mr Boxalls inclusion into any championship team as a guest as in the NDL declarations it has NEG next to his name which I am told means Not Eligable to Guest? -
Redcar Bears vs Oxford Cheetahs - Champ - 28/7
Technik replied to Bojangles's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It's more laughable each & every time it happens. Hans in a traffic jam.... I'm in a traffic jam most mornings on the M25 i could take a picture at 07:00 & send it at 14:00 but what does it prove? Laguta with a wrist injury.... How? is there a record? it will be interesting to know if Scott will be at SWC for the play off tonight.. Lets wait & see -
It must be about time for Nick Morris to have a hearing. I'm sure there has been ample time for both sides to get their acts together.

With Kent missing Naylor at reserve as well as Kingston added to the return of Killeen for Oxford I cant see this being anything other than a +60 point score for Oxford

Will Tai be able to race in the SWC
Technik replied to Debbi's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In my opinion; The home team receive a severe rollocking for failing to control their own fans. The fan will be banned by the club from home matches & by the PZM from all Polish speedway. Woffinden will also receive a rollocking & a suspended ban. Teams will only be allowed to make a parade win/loose or draw from the racing surface. There will be some settlement over the whole incident so it will not get to a hearing. Just my opinion -
If thats all we have to do then it's easy, The teams that are winning have the best managers because by doing nothing they can make no mistakes.

Will Tai be able to race in the SWC
Technik replied to Debbi's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This I assume happened at a domestic meeting in Poland. This will be for in the first instance for the clubs involved to deal with then possibly the PZM. as it is not an FIM event then I don't believe they will be required as the national rules should be used. If the supporter is in an area he shouldn't be then possibly the club he supports may be in a tight spot. But whatever happens I can't see it affecting Tai representing team GB at the upcoming events in Poland -
The position of todays team manager is more for an enthusiast. There is very little that can be done to change the outcome of a meeting. as a kid I would stand with a group of pals & we would manage both sides making decisions as to what to do when in a position to use T/S or who to put in as R/R & when to use a reserve. of course if the manager differs to us then the debate continues. Todays speedway will not allow that & now all we talk about is how long the meeting is delayed or the dust & why is it so expensive. But I think the best team manager was Allan Ham at Bradford, He had the ability to motivate an average reserve into beliving he could beat a world champion & humble enough to be able to work alongside World Champions. Each time I went to Odsal it was set up like a championship arena, It was a very intimadating on arrival but always an excellent show

Whilst I agree that professional sportspeople need to be aware about what they are taking it is near impossible to know what goes into over the counter drugs & with different brands having slightly different make ups. In the past I have asked a pharmasist for drugs that conform with the IOF list & the reply I got was "I think these are OK"... Not exactly inspiring confidence when you get that answer from someone who should be regarded as an expert. All that said when selected for a drug test the selected competitor will be asked to declare any & all medication they have used recently & that will include even the most innocent sounding such as birth control, paracetomol or even a covid jab
-
I have to agree. If this system is to be used for individual championship events where a new tyre can be used for semi-finals & finals then they should be ready mounted by the SCB/BSPL for the qualified riders to put on their bikes. either that or allow each rider two tyres at the start to use as they see fit. The waiting time at any speedway event is whats killing British speedway
-
As I understand it a rider that is not contracted can only guest for the same club twice so I think it makes sense to sign Garrard as a fixture & if Killeen is fit for the end of season play offs then the reverse switch can be made.
-
It's of no concern as to what has been or will be found in the sample taken. The rider refused to take a second test so is guilty by failing to comply with any/all of the process the result is he will be deemed to have provided a positive sample & should receive the maximum penalty (2 year ban) the same as Steve Boxall in the past
