  1. Raining in Berwick and Gorzow now. Look at netweather.tv and it looks like could be more to come. All the dry weather we’ve had and now we get this
  2. My brother told me about this last night, it looks much worse than I thought it was. I’m absolutely mortified that in this day and age companies can get away with it, but that’s the way this country is these days . There’s zero real policing, this government don’t give a monkies about proper planning or what real people want. If you can afford it you can get away with anything these days. It’s the destruction of my teens and early twenties, it is sacrilege.

    New Cross

Saw the thread title and thought it must be about Easter and an ancient tale of the custom of dragging a cross and a frying pan through the streets of London, to a newly discovered sacred site.
  4. Brilliant experience for young riders. We really should thank the Poles for training our future(we hope) riders , and giving them wider experience and knowledge of proper quality speedway tracks.
  5. Shocked and saddened by the news, life never seems to be fair. Not my favorite commentator, but he certainly did a lot for speedway. Monday nights will sadly never be the same again . My thoughts are with his devastated family and colleagues and friends. Rest in Peace Nigel
  6. Good luck to everybody concerned with the resurrection of Oxford. Spent many an evening booing Oxford from the third bend in my youth, but it's great to see them back. Next is to get my old spot back on the back straight at Brandon . I can dream eh ! Congratulations to everybody who never gave up hope. As Bluebee said go to general speedway discussions and support the revival of Brandon bid.
  7. It depends what you’re looking for, if you want to be in town there are a few good B&B places in Berwick plus Premier Inn. A few miles south or north on the coast quite a few B&B and hotels in good locations like Bamburgh , Seahouses Amble, Beadnell, Craster and Boulder and Warkworth to the South and St.Abbs and Eyemouth and Coldingham to the North. You’re likely to find they’re not as good value these days due to covid and staycation, and some have been charging ripoff prices in the summer months.. good luck and have a good weekend trip.
  8. I do believe it might have been leukaemia, but not 100% certain.
  9. The fine sight of Booey and Col on a five one coming off turn one onto the back straight at Brandon in the first heat, was a regular treat in the sixties. Used to know Col quite well when he had his unit near the ring road, one of the good guys and an oft underrated rider. Was so shocked when I came back to the UK in 83 to learn of his sad passing at such a young age. RIP Col
  10. Hi Bob, as far as I know and touch wood Jim is still doing fine. It was Jim who got me into speedway in the 50's as he used to work with my old man. In the 60's he had a body shop business in Exhall with with Mick Blackburn who used to be team manager at Brandon at one time. I trust that most of all of the old teams of the fifties and sixties at Brandon are still going strong, and I assume that John H and Nigel H are still in the hotel and golf course business. I remember that 1963 Final at Wembley I was there and I think Jim made reserve the following season.
  11. Surely it's easier to start a new thread if you want to change the matter under discussion, rather than hijack a thread.
  12. Very sad news, I knew Chris during his time at Coventry in the mid/late sixties, a steady rider and more importantly a very nice guy. RIP Chris, and my thoughts are with your family and friends.
  13. Think your being a bit hard on the beeb, they carried a longish report of the premiership final on the motor sport section of the BBC sports website last week. The media have increasingly and sadly ignored the support while we are in the doldrums. Can we magic a nomination for team of the year ?t Sad to hear that no senior officials of our sport in the UK were in attendance at Belle Vue yesterday. That's one of the reasons why we don't get much media coverage.
  14. I was surprised that BBC Sport site carried a report of the premiership final in the motor sport section, so hopefully the World Champions should get a big mention tomorrow on the Beeb somewhere.
  15. I found it very enjoyable last night. If you missed the gate you still had a good chance of making up ground. Difficult to prepare a track for two consecutive days of racing at this time of year with moisture in the ground and rain around. Hard slick tracks still provide good racing as we see in Poland regularly. Gutted forTai and the Swedes and yes, I do believe that Doyle caused both incidents, especially the first one as you see him look behind twice at the approaching Swedes on his outside and he cleverly drifted out to leave no racing room. As someone said earlier he is replacing Freddie and Pedersen as the rider you don't want to be on the outside of. Apart from those incidents, thoroughly enjoyed the close racing and full marks to Tom Brennan and Hellestom-Bangs , they were both superb especially the latter having to take on the whole world of speedway by himself, he should get a medal for his efforts.
  16. Very saddened and shocked, thoughts are with the family RIP Colin
  17. It's a real shame as we used to get Crescent Girl's(sic) emails every week, even though we sometimes moaned about them (good naturedly of course) they were very informative. They must still have the data base that they used, so why not use it again to keep everyone up to date
  18. Full marks to Lublin, it's very rare that you see the team that comes second smiling and enjoying themselves at the presentation. Superb TV presentation in all the meetings today , it makes our TV companies speedway presentation look quite amateurish, although BT aren't too bad with the GPs, would much rather have Polish commentators though on BT and Eurosport
