  1. Fingers crossed for Ricky, he's had such an unlucky year. Be strong Ricky, thoughts are with you and get well soon
  2. Looking at the rainfall radar it should become clearer west of Edinburgh, heavy rain seems to be concentrating on the east coast, good luck.
  3. More bad luck for Berwick, Barrett on his way to hospital, Smith withdrawn tonight and Kennett's SGP qualifier postponed until tomorrow. What was promising to be a close encounter is now going to have to rely on being able to get guests at short notice that can still make it interesting.
  4. R.I.P Freddie, I was never lucky enough to see you ride, but in addition to your magnificent achievements on the track at least you have managed to achieve possibly the biggest article concerning speedway in the Torygraph for many years in todays obituary columns. Thoughts are with Freddies family and friends at this sad time
  5. Might be an idea to pop over to Holy Island in the morning and say a few prayers for some fine weather, you never know it might work (get back before the tide comes in though) ! Enjoy yourself up here, you could do worse than a visit to Bambugh Castle and the chippies in Seahouses for a snack. Don't worry about the river, it was high tide at lunchtime !
  6. Met Office forecast at the moment is for a mainly dry cloudy cool week. Best keep an eye on this link as the week progresses http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ne/berwick_upon_tweed_forecast_weather.html There have been applications to the council about permission for adhoc rain-off reruns of meetings but I haven't read anything locally about the final outcome, though I believe the Council were recommending the changes.
  7. Thanks speedyguy for the links, brings back good memories of my time with Leicester and Coventry and a few other teams, and some good pics from Leicester in the 60's, it's easy to forget just how many teams there were in local leagues as well as the national leagues.
  8. Heathen, is this what you were looking for ? from Sues' updates site http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=aus&action=display&thread=9789

    Darvel And Felton

I drive past on the A1 three or four times a week so I'll drop in one day when I've got a bit of spare time and see if its accessible. Interesting to see that the shape is still clearly visible, I had assumed that the land would have been put to other uses by now.
  10. Such awful bad luck for Alex and Berwick, just when he was settling in and getting used to British speedway, it really is a shame. Best wishes to Alex for a full recovery, thoughts are with you and your family and friends, good luck in your recovery ..... I know you will be warmly welcomed back at Berwick. Full marks to to B4L and the updater for their sensitivity regarding who may have been following and reading the updates.
  11. Congratulations to Tomasz Gollob, after so many years of entertaining us and some times frustrating us, I am so pleased to see him take the title that he richly deserves. Hopefully he won't retire too soon, the SGP series would be left with a vast hole to fill ! I just hope that when he does retire some enterprising promoter(s) will bring him over to the UK for a farewell tour, I would kinda like to watch him blasting around Berwick lol
  12. What's on your mind?

  13. I thought Gollob was majestic tonight, it would be a just reward if he actually got to win the title once before he hangs up his leathers. Best GP I've seen for ages and even Franchetti will have a few bragging rights having passed Crump, Adams, Hancock and a couple of others (OK, I know most of them passed him again but the lad tried hard) shame he hasn't been on the pace like that for Berwick though. Lets hope the final round is as entertaining
  14. You might need an umbrella too Andy Patch if the forecast is to be believed ! Was hoping BFD might have put a weather update on here but he is probably otherwise engaged
  15. As the forecast wet weather tomorrow is likely to have an effect on the conditions I should think that the Poles will cope with the track better than the rest. Love to see a real scrap between all four teams with the Russians giving everyone a shock again. My head says Poland followed by the Aussies with the other two in a tight fight for third.
  16. Bee, you may well be right about the track being different on Saturday. The forecast for tomorrow is heavy rain lets hope they have got it completely wrong ! Do they leave Sunday free in case it is rained off tomorrow?
  17. Well I'll eat my hat, didn't think we had even a glimmer of a chance of even third place. Hats off to the lads, so near yet so far away in the end. Some great racing and entertainment. Best wishes to Adam Shields and just hope it is not a collar bone gone.
  18. I think that we have to be realistic, even if Scott was in the team I doubt he would score that many more points than Lewis or Woffy to prevent us ending up in 4th place. I hope that some miracle will prove me wrong, but we really haven't got the riders good enough to challenge this year. I just hope that the team put in a creditable performance, and I sincerely hope that Sky don't spend their time trying to big GB up and make out that we have a chance of reaching the final. Good luck to the guys riding tonight. Think Crump and co will win, and very tight for the other place between the Danes and Swedes.
  19. From the Coventry website NICK NICHOLLS (England) 1954-1961 M: 204, R: 773, P: 852, B: 131, T: 983, Average: 5.09, PM: 3 Remeber Nick well, neat rider if my memory serves me correctly.
  20. Thats really sad news .... RIP Maury A genuinely good man, I've got good memories of his time at Brandon. Real team man and a classy rider, not forgetting the fabulous frames that he made. My thoughts are with his family and friends
  21. I remember Maury well, I had a couple of frames made by him, one of which ended up wrapped around an RSJ that supported the pits gate at Brafield Maury was a quality rider, smooth and tidy if I remeber correctly. Nice guy too.
  22. Superb meeting, but sad to see Harris, Nicholls and Richardson so far off the pace until the last third of the meeting. Was it a lack of serious planning, preparation and organisation for such an important meeting? On Thursday the Aussies, Poles and top Swedes were on the pace from the start as were the Danes last night as well. There really is no excuse I can find for our top three's performance in the early parts of the meeting. If we want to progress as a nation in the World Cup then a serious professional approach has to be taken instead of the "well we tried our best matey". We've got the talent available to develop, but what we need is a serious approach to such events or we will be also-rans for the forseeable future.
  23. Total professional, and considering her confession that she knows very little about Speedway, she was very credible. The SGP and SWC products are far slicker in overall presentation and timings, but she brought speedway on TV in the UK up to a new level. Sadly I expect it is the last that we shall see of her presenting Speedway, as she will move on to bigger and better things in the footsteps of Suzie Perry and Julia Bradbury. Well done Sky, it was your best ever Speedway production.
  24. Yet again superb racing at Lezno and congratulations to Poland. It's time common sense prevailed and that the rules are changed so that the reserve can replace anyone in the team at anytime up to a maximum of five rides. The current rule was clearly going to be open to abuse. A great advert for Speedway and real speedway tracks - just a shame that we have very few real tracks in this country.
