  1. Not quite. Whilst amazing news for residents, this doesn't involve the speedway and is separate from the development plans. Still, a great step in the right direction!
  2. Sorry, I mean most likely Buster / Panthers / Who ever collecting the associated bits and pieces. Wasn't suggesting anything untoward.
  3. Activity at the track today it would seem. Shale piled up on the outside, telehandler and something else around the pits area. Most likely the clear-up / collection stage.
  4. Why is that bloke dragging tatty looking bunting out on the 4th bend, then folding it back in again every race? Looks utterly bizarre...
  5. Even if the planning is flat out rejected, AEPG don't have to renew the lease for the Speedway... Surely as custodians of the showground and with permission from AEPG they can simply agree between them that they don't want the speedway there anymore, not renew the lease and demo the facilities? The speedway has always rented the facilities and Surely no one is obliged to provide them indefinitely. This has been on the cards for as long as I can remember going, so Surely if Peterborough speedway was ever going to live on past the inevitable development of the showground, it would have done so by now.
  6. Give me a team including any 4 of the following and ill be there every week. Crump Hans M Poole R Pederson R Sullivan Z (Sam) Tesar NKI Hans Clausen K Bjerre Mario Jirout However bad the results are, I would pay to watch with a smile!
  7. Could this not be resolved with some clear designation of areas? It sounds like the issue is the combination of public vehicles and pedestrians in the same space, which sounds a perfectly reasonable concern to me. However if BB parking were to be clearly signposted and enforced (would only take 1 marshall to wave you into the correct area), surely that could eliminate the crossing of the two parties whilst allowing closer access for BB holders? The old entry gate could serve as the way in for BB holders (as I believe it does now), a marshall and a few cones at the start of the new hard standing area outside of the arena itself and park up there. At that point it is a much shorter walk to the grandstand... Or am I missing something here?
  8. What if the promotion were to organise a ferry type system using the showground buggies or any other method of transport from the gates to the grandstand, like they have done previously, would that be workable? Currently I believe all riders and disabled go in through the first gate (can never remember numbers, but the original one with the wooden hut turnstiles) and head straight down towards the track and pits. If they were to be signposted off to the left when they go in and take a route that goes around the left hand side of the track and around the back straight, that will enable riders to get up to their normal parking spots and disabled parking could be reassigned to this section. At that point, a simple barrier / temporary fence would stop pedestrians wandering into the moving traffic areas and stop the vans from hooning out through the line of pedestrians at the end of the meeting. Alternatively - use the other gate at the Southgate entrance to come straight into the track from that direction and advoid the short route around the track. Its a bit like when they stopped the kids hanging over the fence for a high five after a race - I loved doing that when I was younger and it was a real shame they stopped it - but it made perfect sense really.
  9. Interesting point. Kepping the same riders for continuity and loyalty relies on the clubs wanting to do so. If a team could continually sign 7 new riders up to their previous years average and continue to improve exponentially - you could end up with a 1-7 of GP only riders in theory.
  10. But the current situation is set up to punish those teams that do well and riders that improve. Where is the sense in that? I have always been perplexed by this average thing - I get the premise, but it is flawed in practice. A level playing ground at the start of the year - lovely in a disney book, but in professional sport? Rediculous. Rugby, Football, Cricket - do any of those teams have to drop their star player at the end of the year because he has scored too many points for them and helped them win the league? No chance - that guy is now their star asset. Speedway? Nah that guy now gets kicked to touch... The deeper you look, the more of an issue it becomes. Why should riders have any loyalty to these clubs when they know that doing well could cost them a job next year? Do too well and no team will sign you... So when a rider knows that doing too well could cost him his team spot next year, why should be care about the team - they clearly dont have any loyalty to him. All the "new fans" that come into the sport, develop an affinity to their team and get a favourite rider, buy the tshirt / cap and a few photos - turn up next year to see that he has been dropped because he DID WELL and now he is riding for another team? Then the same again next year? "Why has my teams best rider been dropped?"... This system of punishing teams and riders for doing well creates a situation where there is no continuity from one year to the next and is rediculous for a professional sport - especially one that is loosing support rapidly. Raising the points limit to that of the highest team allows all teams to keep their current 1-7 if the supporters (paying customers) develop affinity towards them and allows all clubs to offer longer contracts to riders which then helps develop loyalty and respect between all 3 parties (riders, clubs, customers). There is no obligation to keep your 1-7, but it gives teams the opportunity to do so. Capping the limit at the highest team of last year also means that 1 club cannot buy up all the top riders and clearly dominate. Clearly speedway does not have the money to become a football situation where money makes a team, but some level of continuity must exist to retain customers interest. I personally have no idea what I support anymore, I go to my local track because I like speedway - I have lost all interest in the team itself because it changes all the damn time, I dont care to worry who is riding because its fundamentally irellivant.
  11. It is possible for a rider to have compassion and concern for others safety you know... in fact when im being squeezed by other riders, I like to know that they are not ruthless agressors ready to put me in the fence. If I decide not to slam the door shut and put the guys front wheel into the boards, because I don't like the idea of causing him to crash with possible injuries - does that mean I am too soft and should pack up my kit and retire? Is a rider with compassion and a thought process that regards other riders safety a danger because of this? Or the rider with no thought for the safety of others on the track? I know who I would rather be trading elbows with.
  12. Ah brilliant, well done! Thats about as much as we can hope for at this stage. For anyone who didnt manage to make the exhibition yesterday, you can view the boards they had setup here: https://www.eastofengland.org.uk/2019/09/19/future-vision/
  13. Thank you for the clarification, certainly clears up a few things! The point I was trying to make was being careful not to bite the hand that feeds, if the showground decides to get rid of the speedway for what ever reason, then we would need to try and find an alternative venue and someone to fund it... this hasnt happened much recently.
  14. I had this for about 3 days, it resolved itself when I was logged in.
  15. Id pay for that. I wouldnt expect Sky Sports quality coverage for a live stream at that price point, a single camera with decent quality audio would do me. To me a live stream service would be the equivalent to a radio stream - a way of following my team when they are away and keeping an eye in on what the rest of the matches are doing, rather than something I would put up on the main TV and subject everyone else in the house to every night. Although if we keep fixed race nights then the live stream would loose its appeal to me, as I wouldnt want to try and stream every match all at the same time.
  16. It is likely the case of going with the only bidder at this point...
  17. The Showground gets an awful lot of stick from a lot of angles and I don't believe thats fair at all... they allow a dirty shale arena to sit smack bang in the middle of their events space all year round for the sake of what 20 / 30 evenings a year? - not even days, evenings... When they open the gates and deal with complaints from the local area (not just the houses at the showground, but the ortons, alwalton, wistow etc) when they run late in the evening, paying for security on the gates and around the area, they get a slice of what, 400-500 spectators? I dont know what the arangement is, but I feel pretty confident in thinking that the speedway does not make money for the showground. Take the 4 week camping festival (actually 2 different festivals) that caused a long break in the fixtures for us - that event would have made more for the showground in 4 weeks than the speedway could make in years... but they are to be moaned at because people prefer to hold a camping exhibition in the summer? Nonsense. The showground should say "No thankyou mr big event, I cannot have you here for 4 weeks solid (not including the week before and after setting up) because we have a minority sport that needs to run 3 meetings (unless of course it rains) for 600 people... Nonsense. If the showground did not host these types of events, there would be no showground and therefore no speedway. I think its about time people stopped throwing mud at the people that are keeping this whole mess afloat and start looking closer to home as to why it is all falling apart. If Peterborough Panthers pulled in a crowd of 4-5000 people, every week, then we wouldnt have to worry about dates for fixtures or whether the stadium would be there in 5 years time. The fact of the matter is that the product being offered is weaker than ever before and people just arent buying it. Sell more tickets - have more clout. Until then, stop beating up the guys that are plugging the back end.
  18. Dont take it the wrong way, im not trying to bait anyone (nor am i just an alias to cause irritation like others here). I remember one of the "winter of discontent" meetings at the showground where we were told "we only want riders who want to ride for us", good idea IMO - more of that please! Im kind of fed up of supporting a bunch of individuals who have no real interest in the clubs they are riding for. An unfair generalisation I know, but it is how it comes across to me. I want to see a team built around a steady core, each year. I appreciate the whole average and team building limit side of things, but if you can retain 4/5 of your 1-7 each year then that works for me. If averages increase then they move up into the main body of the team and you just have a little less to spend on your reserves - great, go scout the development leagues and bring in some fresh talent for the experience. Invest in him / her for a few seasons and you can probably retain the bulk of your 1-7 for a few years without team building problems. Honestly I love the idea of seeing the Jason Crumps flying around the showground - but what I want more is a team I can relate to. And the question? To me its the obvious question that all clubs should be asking over the winter - "What will the supporters pay to see?"...
  19. No idea. The entire showground was filled with tents and marquees though from start to finish - so my guess is that it was a central location to everyone camping that would be easy to locate and also easy to manage because of the perimiter fencing etc. It did look awesome though - it was a serious bit of kit. However, it was the Land Rovers Owners show Saturday and Sunday just gone - so I would imagine the center green to be completely finished off now!
  20. Why the hate on Oystercard? I havent been the most regular visitor to the showground the last year or so (for many reasons) - but personally I would prefer a team made up of riders that want to ride for the club and that I, as a supporter, have an affinity to... I know who Ostergaard is, I know who Simon lambert is - both have been part of the squad for a number of years and allow me to keep some kind of attachment to the team... I know this is likely to sound very flower power - but going all out to win the league clearly isnt bringing the supporters in... There is something fundamental missing from Speedway compared to when I went as a youngster, and that is the connection between the fans and the guys on the track. Team speedway in this country feels like the biggest load of rubbish anyone has ever tried to sell me, then you go and tear the team up every year! I've only just worked out who everyone was... If I look back to when I went as a kid, names like Mick Poole, Ryan Sullivan, Sam Tesar... you could happily call them all "Peterborough Riders"... these days I find myself caring less and less about looking at the team in the program as it doesnt really matter... its just a bunch of blokes riding for themselves in one of our race suits... So here is my really unpopular oppinion - Give me Ostergaard and Lambert next year - I dont care if we win meetings, these guys will go out and give it 100% every time because they WANT to ride for Panthers. Build a team full of guys that WANT to ride for YOUR TEAM and watch the affinity grow again between them and the supporters. Ultimately - what are we supporting? Because right now it feels that as a "Panthers Fan" I am just cheering a mythical name that bears no resemblance to anything, year in year out. I'm just one of a depleating number of fans that support Speedway and go to Panthers because its local.
  21. That was due to a rather large circus size tent being there for 4 weeks for an event. There was a stage inside as well as many many people.
  22. You can only laugh at this point... This was always going to be the outcome, as soon as the appeal was made. At this point, it really does feell like the last drops of water are being squeezed out of the washcloth for the people involved and everyone is just trying to milk as much out of the remaining few seasons as possible.
  23. Yeah the speedway track and grandstand is pretty much in the center. I would guess that bringing the fencing inwards and selling off the outskirts in sections would make the most sense.
