  1. A cap has been tried before, it doesn't work. All that happens is clubs with money back that rider up with "sponsorship"
  2. There were 2 other meetings due to take place and it's quite an awkward average to fill. I do know plenty were tried!
  3. As it stands the meeting is still on. Rain overnight, but good chances of avoiding any major rain today. Redcar “Agilia” Bears 1. Charles Wright (C) 9.26 2. James Sarjeant. 4.62 3. Jake Allen 7.13 4. Rider Replacement for Jordan Stewart 5. Michael Palm Toft 7.55 6. Anders Rowe 4.22 7. Jordan Jenkins 2* TM Jade Mudgway Berwick “FTS” Bandits 1 Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen 6.95 2 Greg Blair (G) 3* 3 Rider Replacement for Danny Gappmaier 4 Paco Castagna (G) 6.54 5 Aaron Summers. (C) 6.67 6 Kasper Andersen 4.93 7 Kyle Bickley. 3.35 TM Gary Flint
  4. That's all it is, simply a debate. A fair few seem to be attacking the sport as a whole and whilst I know it has its issues, there seems to also be quite a few clubs doing very well crowd wise. Wolves, Redcar, Ipswich have all seen bumper crowds this year so something must be going right. Birmingham are reportedly pulling 1/3 of their 2019 crowd meaning in that year there was still a good 8-900 going there and the sport hasn't changed that drastically in 2 years.
  5. Oh I see, so whilst people aren't allowed to post "negative and snide" comments it's okay for you to be condescending?
  6. That's a fair point I hadn't actually thought about the away meetings Newcastle had done with no return yet. The debate was raised without Redcar in mind actually as we've ridden at both already when these fears weren't public, although we do have another visit to Birmingham to come! It would be the Birmingham riders I'd feel more sorry for, having been delayed in beginning too!
  7. Interesting that you went with an insult after I simply raised a question to spark debate which I assumed is what this forum is for...? I fully understand closing a club during the season is disastrous. I'm asking what people's opinions are of the time scale to call it quits. Riders turning up each week with no idea if their job will still be there the next, away teams spending money on wages (that they could probably do without) on someone else's attempt to save a failing business. No need to try insult me, regardless of my age (I am much older than 14 but it wouldn't matter if I wasn't!).
  8. Lose your rider base (which you have to have) lose your bond (to the tune of £50k) lose your voting rights
  9. Newcastle don't have 159 fans nevermind ones that'll pay an extra tenner for a prize draw!
  10. How would that benefit them? They'd lose all riders, assets and their bond with the BSPA if they did that. Probably costing them more
  11. According to some there's been no negligence by the promotion but as you say, don't run two teams when you can't afford to even run one!
  12. When you're gambling all your money at the casino but your wife's still paying her share of the bills, she's gonna divorce you at some point before you lose the house
  13. Didn't Newcastle only run 2 home meetings under restrictions? Whilst that may have wiped out the pot along with other things, the crowd is still majorly down and that can be pinned on the promotion to some extent. The team being weak definitely won't be helping. I will never understand the argument of building an affordable team as you will always attract less crowd. The extra crowd pays the extra wage! I'm not stating Eastbourne are losing money. What I'm saying is they have announced they lose crowd due to the clash with the GP, and the weather is a threat (rain offs lose money). If say they were against Poole, or Glasgow they might take that gamble as it's part of speedway. But with it being Birmingham, maybe they're not willing to gamble as the club could close any second and the meeting deemed pointless anyway?!
  14. You'd be footing a nice bill for your programmes at least then!
  15. They've announced they have to revert back to a guest with an average of 3.75 or below
  16. Whilst I agree on some level that it's the mismanagement of British Speedway as a whole but I do personally feel promoters need to be held accountable too. Having been at Birmingham for their opening night, that whole fiasco was 100% the fault of the promotion putting on a substandard event and expecting people to just accept it. This deadline isn't meant as a threat. Maybe there needs to be some incentive and some honest talks. But scenarios like Eastbourne cancelling this week will happen more often. Would you risk losing money hosting a team that may end up out the league anyway? And whilst B & N gamble week by week as to if they get enough crowd to survive, the away team are left footing the wage bill for their own riders. I'm sure Plymouth could do without Crumpy and Pedersens wage bill from this Sunday if it turns out to be worth nothing, but they're sticking their necks on the line and committing to it.
  17. Should these clubs be given a deadline to decide whether they're continuing the full season or not? Whilst I feel sorry for both clubs being in the position they are, every meeting the run with this hanging over their heads is also costing the away team for a fixture that may just be cancelled. That, along with the looking transfer deadline day, close after 31st and the riders have lost any chance of earning wages for other clubs
  18. Maybe gate 4 wasn't obviously bad before the start? Maybe they thought they'd have a comfortable lead to cope with the gate change later in the meeting? You can't look at a decision in hindsight and call it a howler
  19. Streaming will only ever be able to target away fans. That meaning you'd likely only get 100-200 paying customers. The cheapest broadcasting company is charging £1500 a meeting. Big gamble. Personally I feel in house is the way forward, and it doesn't cost a great deal. But getting the people to help out with running it is the bigger hurdle! Oh there's also some surprising costs when it comes to streaming services and paywalls.
