World Cup - Wroclaw July 2023
PotteringAround replied to Monarchs2468's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Think that might just have handed the advantage to Australia as the other three using their best rider at reserve will cancel each other out. I can only see an advantage to putting the top rider at reserve in the first two rounds and if you are one of the lesser teams battling between third and fourth. If you're just hoping to third place to progress to the play-off and need your best rider to mop up the easy points then it could be worthwhile. But if you're going for the win in the race-off or final, then I see no advantage. You want your top four out there every race and your best man looking to dominate all races, not just coming in to pick up the "easy" points. -

The scenic railway was the one you could often see behind the first bend in photos of the Hyde Road track. The Bobs was the wooden roller coaster that was the fastest in the world in its prime. -

Is anyone having any success with getting the Star via Royal Mail? Again I received last week's 5 days late. It turned up this Tuesday. So far today's hasn't arrrived. Presume it will come next Tueday.

Same here. Via Newsteam it used to arrive about 4am every Thursday. By Royal Mail, last week's Star arrived this Tuesday (5 days late), This week's hasn't arrived yet.

Wasn't 1977 the year Belle Vue had those awful sponsored silver leathers? I think Collins wore them the night he crashed into the drain cover and broke his leg. I don't think anyone wore them after that.

Belle Vue v Kent - Friday 7 July

Unlucky with fixtures there. Beaten by a strong Plymouth side with Gilkes and Atkins. After Belle Vue had been, Gilkes got injured, Atkins spat his dummy and left, and every other team were gifted 4 easy points. -

The Water Chute was right at the front of the funfair in front of the Bobs and behind the turnstiles at the junction of Hyde Road and Belle Vue street. It was opened in 1957 and dismantled in 1978 and sold to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. -
Belle Vue v Kent - Friday 7 July

Belle Vue seem to be unlucky the way the fixtures have fallen. Went to Kent with half a team where a full team would have won. Most teams have won at Berwick, but Belle Vue won't win now that they've fiddled Boxall in on a dodgy average. They also have to go to Workington, but what's the chances of Bickley being in there soon? -

Would be, but Bowtell rides for Mildenhall not Kent. Morley is the Kent No.1 -
Expect a home win, but have Kent done enough for the aggregate point?
-
Unbelievable from the SCB. Which rule says you get 8% off your average for every year out after a drugs ban? If you need your average reducing, then you know what to do now kids.
-
Any thoughts on Berwick kicking out a youngster to sign a 36-year-old ex-Elite League rider who was banned for 2 years for failing to take a drugs test?

The Stable Gate. About 3 miles away. Straight down Hyde Road to Denton Island. It's off the roundabout next door to the Premier Inn.

Workington v Leicester 10/06/2023 3pm
PotteringAround replied to topaz325's topic in National League Speedway
As Boughen was actually at the track, and apparently did the track walk before throwing his toys and leaving, I'm guessing the SCB are making the point that they think the club should have done more to control the rider, and talk sense in to him, to stop him leaving. I wasn't there and I have no idea which members of the Leicester management were there, and how much effort they made to stop the rider leaving, but I know the referee was very involoved and the fine will have been based on whatever he put in his report. -

Think you're underestimating the strength of Workington. Luke Harrison will be fine fitness-wise, and is a class act. The R/R will be solid with a ride for Pijper, 2 rides for Harrison, and a ride for H McGurk and will produce a lot more points than the single point from Kelly in the Mildenhall home loss. Kelly has crashed a couple of times at reserve, and as you say riding top 5 is harder. Conversely riding at reserve is easier, and H McGurk has been a consistent, solid 7-8 .point heat leader in the last few seasons. The move to Workington has been a disaster so far, but you don't become a bad rider overnight. Moving to reserve could see him making hay. This could be the comeback meeting. Dan Thompson is the NL No.1 man. The Leicester side is built around big double figures from the twins. Roynon is capable of a big score, but as we saw last Saturday, it's not easy to replace the league No.1, so Leicester are much weakened. I'm not so worried about the Ward for Foord replacement. Foord is another erratic type who could crash out as easily as score points. Ward will have a go and pick up any gift points without pulling up too many trees. -

Callum Foy is the A.R. but wouldn't expect him to get a ride. Extra R/R rides for Pijper, Harrison, and H McGurk make Workington massively stronger than if Kelly was riding. Leicester are weakened by the loss of D Thompson, and have a pretty much like-for-like with Kai Ward in for injured Vinnie Foord. That means this will be a very comfortable home win. -
But he comes out of the team on 4.46 today, and then drops to 3.00 tomorrow. So he can be an AR for anyone.
-
The truth is what the facts are. Plenty of people have seen Collins' letters
-
Erm no. An Additional rider is if you are running Rider Replacement.

Well obviously the redeclaration to fit Clegg in must be done at some point before 9 June, so 14 days after will be 23 June at the latest. Seems the fiddle can be done in time for the Leicester meeting. Pretty sure it used to be the case that someone removed from a 1-7 could not be reintroduced the same season, to prevent this sort of fiddle. Not sure how you think Simpson could be an AR for Edinburgh. None of the top 5 are injured, so I don't see any benefit in leaving one of them out.
