I'm lost... How much brighter do you want British speedway to be?? Let's take a look at how many let's say Bewley and under age riders there are kicking about 1 Dan Bewley 20/05/1999 2 Jacob Clouting 28/08/1999 3 Matt Marson 15/03/2000 4 Josh Warren 12/04/2000 5 Mason Watson 07/08/2000 6 Jack Parkinson Blackburn 02/09/2000 7 Sam Bebee 18/10/2000 8 Henry Atkins 02/01/2001 9 Tom Brennan 02/07/2001 10 Jordan Jenkins 02/08/2001 11 Kyle Bickley 27/02/2002 12 Anders Rowe 09/05/2002 13 Kyran Lyden 18/05/2002 14 Dan Gilkes 21/05/2002 15 Drew Kemp 11/08/2002 16 Connor Bailey 13/08/2002 17 Jason Edwards 14/09/2002 18 Leon Flint 22/02/2003 19 Kai Ward 29/04/2003 20 Gregor Millar 07/12/2003 21 Elliot Kelly 22/01/2004 22 Jordan Palin 19/02/2004 23 Nathan Ablitt 03/03/2004 24 Jake Mulford 04/03/2004 25 Harry McGurk 04/03/2004 26 Dan Thompson 22/04/2004 27 Joe Thompson 22/04/2004 28 Eli Meadows 23/04/2004 29 Mickie Simpson 21/05/2004 30 Sam Hagon 10/10/2004 31 Archie Freeman 29/11/2004 32 Sam McGurk 01/01/2006 33 Freddy Hodder 18/04/2006 34 Ben Trigger 27/05/2006 35 Vinnie Foord 13/07/2006 36 Ace Pijper 06/09/2006 37 Jody Scott 14/02/2007 38 Max Perry 29/04/2007 39 Luke Harrison 15/06/2007 40 Max James 05/07/2007 41 Ashton Boughen 21/08/2007 Every single one of these riders should be given the opportunity to ride in the BRITISH development league, regardless of average, attitude, height, hair length, toe count whatever... They're young British riders and they deserve every single opportunity they get to race and show their worth. 41 riders CURRENTLY riding in the British leagues who are younger than Dan Bewley (I may have missed some, and yes you could argue some (JPB) aren't riding anymore, but he seems to come and go and you could say some riders don't deserve to be on this list, but that's how so many young lads have been frozen out in the past, they've been discounted and not given the opportunities they deserve). 39 (Minue Bewley and JPB)/7 = nearly 6 full teams of ONLY under Bewley age... Not to mention all the other NL riders who are aged above who deserve a spot in the NL just as much... It's not the lack of riders that is the problem IMO, it's the rules of the league. The NL needs to be strengthened, it's too far away from the CL level, numerous young riders throughout the years haven't been able to make such a big leap and have been frozen out and lost to the sport... Open your eyes!! There's 5 riders born in 2007, 5 riders born in 2006, 11 riders born in 2004... All of these riders are still teenagers!! I would say British speedway hasn't looked this bright in decades?? Obviously there's way more Poles and quite possibly more Danes about, but I refuse to believe there's that many young Swedes or Aussies... I do look into that sort of thing because that's the kind of thing that (sadly) fascinates me... Who will be the big nation of the future...? That's not even including some of the younger riders who are only a year or two out. William Cairns Billy Budd Ashton Vale Jody Scott Stene Pijper I'm sure there's more... Who knows which 4-8 year olds are going about their day to day lives without realizing that they're the next big British speedway star... Time will tell. As you can probably tell I'm at work and there's not a lot going on... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Edinburgh's main issue is funds and geography...?

So where are people getting the figure 4.94 from? That is his last Diamond's average - 2.5% but his Scunthorpe average (his final 2022 average) was 5.65 (-2.5%) = 5.51 Giving Birmingham 4.22 to play with for their final rider, not 4.79 as previously quoted on here???
-
I don't understand this comment at all? We have an abundance of young British riders coming through and if the NL was set up as such, we could fill 14 teams with the available riders... If the NL was about developing riders who were new to the sport/ANY young British rider/riders doing it for a bit of fun at the bottom level/older riders at the tail end of their career passing on knowledge to the young'uns... Could EASILY have a large league of British only riders... But alas, the rules and costs get in the way of this
-
Riding for Grudziadz in the Ekstraliga still as far as I'm aware, so obviously still wants it
-
I like Nick too... But Josh is the next step up on the ladder imo... Not quite superstar in this country, but one step below... Where I see Nick as a solid 3rd heatleader in the PL, Josh could go on to be a very good number 5/possible number 1

I'm lost... Why has James Wright's average gone back to his starting 2022 average and not the average he finished with Scunthorpe at the end of 2022, is it because he didn't do enough meetings with Scunthorpe this year for him to get a new average?? How can the average system be so overly complicated for what it is... 1 Nick Morris 10.13 2 Alfie Bowtell 4.28 3 James Wright 5.51 4 Stefan Nielsen 4.82 5 Justin Sedgmen 7.04 6 7 James Pearson 4.00 35.78 4.22 I have Birmingham down as this??
-
Not to mention that Josh Pickering is an improvement over Nick Morris too...
-
Makes a change
-
Still doesn't fit
-
I didn't realise Birmingham only had 4.22 to play with for their final rider... They look incredibly weak imo What a shame Morris on an inflated average 3 second strings Sedgmen isn't really a number 5? Still unsure about Pearson 4.22 for final rider isn't a lot I hope I'm proved wrong...

Max was absolutely brilliant in Diamonds colours, he really was the master of Brough. I'm sure if our club hadn't been destroyed by the meat man he'd have been in our line up without question. I really really do hope the likes of Max and Matty can get fixed up somewhere, they were amazing for us and it's a massive shame to see them frozen out of speedway entirely. Having riders such as Joe Alcock, Sam Woolley and Jamie Halder on falsely low averages surely means there could be space for Max and Ben Morley at Kent, I'd love to see it.

Trying to put a 'Newcastleish' team together of riders who don't look like they're going to get a CL team place in 2023 just for fun... Obviously Danny King has a place at Redcar, it's difficult finding a number 1 who realistically will be riding in the UK next year who doesn't already have a team spot. Shame we could have had a decent looking side... Although if Granty was still in charge it would've been at least 5 points lower than this I'm sure. 1 Danny King 8.05 2 Max Clegg 5.23 3 James Wright 5.51 4 Matthew Wethers 6.47 5 Tero Aarnio 7.55 6 Paul Starke 5.11 7 Archie Freeman 2.00 39.92 Another notable name is Ashley Morris, who doesn't have a team either... Sorry just realized that James is at Birmingham too... But yous get my point.

SGB Championship 2023 Confirmed Signings
Diamonds85 replied to Nickinho's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
You've just perfectly summed Lee up... One of the most exciting yet disappointing riders I've seen in a long time... Hopefully he can put his mistakes behind him and start scoring and exciting more consistently. I would have had him back in my Diamonds team on a 3.00 average, but not a 4.00 -

James Wright was brilliant and consistent riding for the Diamonds, mostly in a heat leader position too, so I would not be surprised if his average was lowered once his Newcastle results came off, he would've been one of the first names on my team sheet if we still existed, along with Max and Matty again... I miss it already -
Jade Mudgway?

Spoke to Stevie Worrall both at speedway tracks and in his own time, never met a nicer man, very chilled person and always has a fun time with his life, very nice person. I have noticed in the past when he's getting interviewed in front of the fans, he does give some strange answers which may come off or appear as slightly arrogant. I'm not sure if he's doing it for comical effect or maybe he gets nervous talking on front of 1000s of people. Personally though, behind closed doors, he's a lovely bloke, from what I know of him (slight family friend and obviously know him and a few members of his family from when he was at Newcastle/Scunthorpe If Newcastle still existed, I wouldn't want him in my team, but he's still a great bloke.

No I think he's on about jiston sagemon -
1 Alfie Bowtell 10.67 2 Connor King 4.16 3 Nathan Ablitt 7.20 4 Joe Alcock 4.36 5 Ben Morley 9.29 6 Sam Woolley 3.27 7 Chris Watts/Sam Woods 3.00 41.95 Not sure who's more popular between Chris Watts and Sam Woods. Although that is 6 returning, but it shows the possibilities.

Ayyy very interesting... already looking forward to guessing next year's team
-
As far as I can tell Krzystof Kasprzak's last average was 8.04 with Rye House in 2018, but I'm assuming that's wrong considering he's not number 1 and that figure puts the team well above the limit, where have I gone wrong then? 1 Nicolai Klindt 7.39 2 Thomas Jorgensen 6.35 3 Michael Palm Toft 6.86 4 Krzysztof Kasprzak 8.04 5 Josh Pickering 6.14 6 Frederik Jakobsen 5.04 7 Jason Edwards RS I really can't tell if I like that team or not... Gonna take me a while to think about it... I can't tell if it's really good or really bad Anything with Josh Pickering and MPT in must be really good, right?? Brilliant reserves too

Don't give any speedway promoter that much credit lol
-
Luke Crang, very decent, experienced heat leader
-
Greg Blair signs... But Luke Crang has gone, bit of good news and a bit of bad news I guess...
-
Honestly, personalities and personal gripes aside, that team is VERY strong

A 'stab in the dark' eh
