  1. No choice if they really want him….any rider knows its getting towards desperation time for a club. I recall Redcar operating on a strict budget under Havelock and they finished bottom season after season, but they still operated and hung on in there , will Brum do the same ?
  2. And LR has never told porkies before. Basically he’s trying to find the funds to pay them as anybody who is worth having will be screwing him for every penny knowing he’s now in last chance saloon. That in its self, is worrying for the future of the club. Good luck to him , I hope he can find a decent team as the sport can’t afford to lose anyone else.
  3. Who says that’s the total target audience ? When ‘ my team ‘ are featured away from home and I’m not able to attend I’ll be tuning in to watch and so will many , many of the clubs fans who can’t/ won’t travel to the likes of Poole or Plymouth mid week. It’s not all aimed at non attenders who don’t have a home track. Only time will tell how it affects every club but Edinburgh and Redcar think it worked for them last season.
  4. Or not declare to run until you have a team pencilled in ?
  5. Not an option. Re- injured his shoulder , not coming to the UK .
  6. The SCB had nothing to do with it, it was league co- ordinator decision based on consultation with other potential entrants and existing members. After due consideration and agreement with all clubs Redcar have been given the green light to run a ‘ Tigers ‘ team as they have enough genuine novice youngsters to field a second team.
  7. I never suggested it was a ‘ problem ‘. But as I did say, it’s an amateur meeting. If you care to look at the entry for Scunthorpes next ‘ amateur ‘meeting you will see the names of several NDL riders entered, so, as I did say, the only difference is the club having a paying crowd .
  8. Other than the club will make money from the meetings, what is the major difference ? It’s still amateur riders racing each other just with more spectators , hopefully.
  9. Yet again you just don’t get it. He did not do away with the MDL ! There was / is nothing in the way of the MDL. The BSPA simply stopped ‘ teams ‘ using the names of clubs that no longer exist and were not going to appear in the very short term. Your assertion that junior teams are run despite the promoters is an insult to all the promoters who allow and in most cases assist in running junior teams and I include Godfrey in that even though I am not a major fan on the way the sport is currently being run. Without the say so of a promoter no second half’s get run, at all ! You simply don’t have a clue how these things are run.
  10. You mean like it is at EVERY track! You don’t like Godfrey, we get it, but don’t come on here asking personal questions about his opinions when you aren’t prepared to ask him yourself. I doubt he’s going to answer you back on a forum.
  11. Never been to a Scunthorpe meeting when there hasn’t been some sort of second half racing so never been an issue and cash doesn’t come into it as it costs no extra to have upto eight races after the main match. As for rider availability, all the other Friday night tracks run junior teams and second half’s so that suggests the riders are out there. ’JJ ‘ has a problem with Godfrey , that’s his issue. Hope to see Birmingham get some promising juniors of their own and run in a league, whatever it gets called.
  12. Silly response, especially as he runs umpteen second half’s for kids who don’t pay for them.
  13. but they gave up because the kit wasn’t cheap so …
  14. The NL was never a threat to anyone just got its pay structure all wrong. You seem to forget that those mentioned teams , plus Lakeside and Cradley were the teams that paid way above and beyond the NL rates thus making it a ‘ professional’ paid league for amateurs and giving easy money to riders who shouldn’t have ridden at the lower level meaning the end of the likes of Buxton, one of the few clubs who ran the correct way for the NL. The lack of UK riders is because the higher clubs sought foreign riders far too often when British riders were available and so your average second strings and below simply gave up the sport.
  15. Not really , it’s an opinion, just like yours. Scunthorpe do run many events for juniors Godfrey just doesn’t like the MDL.
  16. Whilst you might not like his decision, it’s his track and his opinion and that has nothing to do with ‘nomadic teams ‘.
  17. ‘ searches ‘ are not considered acceptable advanced business plans by the powers that be. Good luck to you and I hope every ‘ ghost club ‘ comes back into being but until you have land that has been approved for use, then it’s just speculating as far the rules go. Anyway….back to Birmingham issues.
  18. You do not seem to have understood his not very well phrased point. Yes, the teams will have been run by very enthusiastic individuals but out of those ‘ ghost teams ‘ how many were actually trying to find land and build a stadium to bring that team back into existence ? Answer : Probably almost Nil. Both Halifax and Castleford , who appeared in the NJL, had advanced plans in place and Halifax even had land secured before the schemes collapsed and both teams ceased to exist as an entity in the league.
  19. Are you referring to the use of ‘ guests ‘ ? which some teams used more than others or the ‘ doubling up ‘ scenario that blights our sport ? Although riders in Poland ride in other teams in other countries too so not much difference but I do agree, in general, speedway has very little credibility now.
  20. So little difference then. The ‘ winning ‘ fans are happy, the sponsors are happy and the club get a shiny trophy , only the scale is different .
  21. An inaccurate post is an inaccurate post. Speedway is cheap compared to any other form of motorsport. As for schemes to make it easier to get into the sport , that has always been the case in British speedway, no one has ever said “ here’s a fee bike and kit , see how you go “ and it’s no different in Poland, no one gives you free gear there either ! Yes, they do give ‘support’ to youngsters but only those that show promise not to joe public walking off the street saying “ his a go mister “.
  22. Just what is the ‘ relevance and reward ‘ then ? How is winning the league in Poland different to winning the league anywhere else ?
  23. So your initial post was just to agree with someone who you knew was wrong ? What is your point ? If you or your family are skint then you aren’t likely to try to get into any motorsport and yes, a ball game is a lot cheaper so no comparison to speedway whatsoever.
