i think overall 95-85 to Leicester - Eastie about 50-40 at Arlington and Lions 55 - 35 at Leicester. Think Eastie weakened without Wood at Home but RR better for them away. Could be reserves battle both Legs and Mountain easily best of the 4 reserves. Should be cracking matches though, going Sunday and hope speedway is great and agree both Clubs deserve big crowds. Been to both this season and seen about 1500 that would be great for both again.
-
why we all know what Cook is, the verdict is what those who made the decision are....leave it there! majority of speedway fans don't like Cook or SCB.. nothing changes except opinions more cemented and polarised. only winners may be Eastbourne as they'll get huge crowd if and when Cook reappears there although he'll no doubt have an excuse or an even bigger strop leave
-
The decision in itself is shocking. What makes it 1000x worse is the complete and utter contempt that The SCB show in the statement. No explanation of the reasons and issues behind the decision and no clarify about the amount of the Fine. So lets say as an example Kennett and Vissing lose 3-5k in earnings while banned. If Cooks fine is 5k or more at least an appreciation that he has lost earning and therefore being punished. To just say "fined" is just not acceptable.

It would be unbelievable and a disgrace, other than it's no surprise. Stitch up and cover up. Sports a joke.

Birmingham v Berwick 11/9/19
HGould replied to allthegearbutnaeidea's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
fantastic and early news about running in professional league (guess that means CL in same format as this year or a big league if that's direction sport goes in) next season from Dave mason. That looked very unlikely in mid summer but fair play Brummies have turned the ship around and things looking much more positive again. Hope all other CL Clubs will do the same. -
Agree 100% Don't understand why BSPA won't let him ride for Eastbourne when he was allowed to ride for and released by Brummies or am I missing something?

If buster gets his 10 Team Top League with rumoured Leicester / Somerset / Sheffield it poses huge questions. Do Berwick / Birmingham / Eastbourne / Edinburgh / Newcastle / Redcar / Scunthorpe - dumb down in to a composite CL/NDL or do IOW / Kent / Mildenhall / Plymouth crank up in to a higher NDL/CL composite . That could be a great 11 Team League on paper but in reality how many would remain - I fear it could be no more than 6 or 7. Terrifying thoughts for many Clubs who have to decide to effective move down or up against their wishes and economic logic either way.
-
I think that you are right on that but where does that leave NDL Clubs who may be forced in to a higher league and not be able to afford costs or have no wish to move out of "Development League" status. Kent, Mildenhall ; IOW; Plymouth are going to have some very difficult decisions to make. I can't see BV / Cubs running in a 2 tier structure and Cradley likewise with limited access to Monmore Green. Worrying times for those 4 NDL regulars.
-
Totally agree brian. Double header on this occasion is perfectly sensible idea. I also think Cradley have to consider fact that likely to be 10 x as many Away Supporters from Belle Vue than Kent, accepting fact BV a far bigger name and average supporter base in thousands still rather than hundreds. Of course BV is bigger draw for them. Shame for the handful of Kent fans who may travel on a Monday but simple commercial reality. With Stoke closing, Cradley looking less and less likely to run in 2020 and doubts about the long term viability of BV and Leicester running 2 sides, could be sadly the end of NDL as we know it.
-
That implies it has been sold for development and not to a Stock Car Promoter as all seems very final? Sad but i fear won't be the last this winter.
-
I think you are spot on the money Problem is, Buster will engineer a 10 Team League get the BT dosh and the rest will be left to fend for themselves in a lower level composite league. That might put 5-6 Clubs to the wall but Buster wont be bothered as he'll be raking it in.

I went to the Somerset meeting late July (only meeting on that day) and it poured all way there but I remember someone saying Eastbourne have their own Met office weather supplier and raced based on that? Not sure how much it costs but the Meeting was a great advert and a last heat decider so well worth every penny I'd say.
-
The fact of the matter is Cradley have to fit around (a) availability of track secondary in pecking order to Wolves (b) can't gain access to the Track until around 6.15pm and that often becomes 6.30pm due to afternoon BAGS Dog Racing at the Stadium. There is the added complication that as Cradley are a Monday venue that have to work around Len's schedule of running every week. All very well saying 1/2 price admission for an Away fan but how do you identify clearly an "away fan" and what about home fans who say "I only want to watch 1 meeting". Hopefully is won't rain next week and the matter will be solved to the benefit of all.

we'll have to agree to disagree, for me it's not about personaility but more direction I think SGP needs to be looking to go in with more vibrant young blood. $64,000 question is "where is that young blood". Or more "Madsens" peaking later but becoming very effective later in career like Doyle before him.
-
Agree entirely about Hancock. Great rider and servant to the sport but a year out at 50 (for all the right and laudable reasons) is a bit like Formula 1 inviting a 60 year old driver back for a "farewell season". It would devalue the series in my opinion. Better if they wish to "celebrate Greg" to allow him to race and get fit at a decent level in Sweden and then give him a few wild card picks or injury replacement picks in Countries where he is most popular.
-
Not sure Leicester would pick Somerset with Schlein, Harris; Covatti and Morris now in the side and Schlein a bit of a track specialist at leicester and Harris / Covatti / Morris in good form too.
-
If you'd have asked me end of June I'd have said I agree we might not run CL but things have picked up numbers and enthusiasm wise in the past couple of months, especially since school holidays and I would be more hopeful. I think CL would have to remain same or may be reduce costs a bit more for that to happen though and may be run a shorter season? Surrounded as we are by football (4 clubs in 10 mile radius + Wolves soccer and speedway) I think late April to late August is best for us. Had no luck with weather and power issues (ahem) earlier on either too much stop/start.
-
probably nearer 1500 but as opinion polls go ask You Gov that would be very good sample. Cook does himself no favours with behaviour like that day and at Wolverhampton (where I was) on Monday. At least KL management had sense to get him withdrawn from meeting b4 he damaged himself or someone else. Cook needs to be signed off permanently until he can sort himself out with proper help and support as Dale Allitt so wisely said in SStar last week.

Redcar v eastbourne koc semi finals 6/7 sept
HGould replied to ruckerroo's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think most neutrals will be rooting for Redcar in Play Offs and KOC and be nice to see Eastbourne win the Shield. Both Clubs made good progress this season and promoted in right way. -
judging by reception at CLRC about 80% of CL supporters agree...Cook is NOT very popular..
-
Gilkes to Birmingham - you read it here first - Midlands based and suit him ideally. (a fair bit of wishful thinking). Think a fair few will be in for him and not just at CL level as remember reading wasn't happy Kent didn't have Saturday race night he was promised.
-
Should be 12 day ban plus whatever they add on for the fact he has no new evidence and was just a stunt to get him in to GP Qualifier race fit and CLRC at which he made a complete muppet of himself and his Club. Hence the reception by fans of every other Club.

I think Eagles got a real bum rap from the Cook and Lanning mafia after the now infamous brawl there. Having been there several times this season, I think Jittendra Duffills assessment is far more the reality than the storm that followed Glasgow. Definitely a nice and welcoming venue and I look forward to Brummies 3rd trip of the season there at the end of the month. I understand that Brummies fans will have free admittance too as a generous mark of respect from the Eagles Management; for cancelling the planned match (coincidentally the infamous 3 August Glasgow match) at short notice on BSPA instructions - which cost some Brummies fans wasted hotel booking.
