Deluded maybe but I think Shanes Morris and Neilsen are very capable of out scoring Bowtell, Coles and Morley and that could be significant. Im confident that Pickering, Sedgeman and Wells can match Plymouth heat leaders.

I'm unusually optimistic. I think it's the strongest team we've put out all season. 51 - 39 Brummies

I think you've hot a nail on the head there. It's part of an Aussie DNA especially when they come here first to grab every opportunity and not to sit in a comfort zone. May be as they get older they get more pommified in some cases. Killeen would have wanted to ride against the best on the night having done so well. He's outshone Trigger on his home track who is current GB Youth 500cc champion, on his first appearance and just emphasises the massive potential Killeen has.

give Mattie Bates a call and stop bleating he may need some rider suggestions. Have you not stopped to think how hard it is to get unattached young riders to go to Plymouth on a Tuesday night? may be Plymouth should revert to Fridays now for NDL if they are having problems getting spaces in the team filled due to Atkins leaving and other riders being unavailable.

I remember seeing him turn up at Perry Barr in 2018 (must have been as our last season in NDL) with all the kit and van and long list of sponsors that most PL riders would have been envious of. May be a case of having it all on a plate, not appreciating it and working at it and then seeing hungrier types just passing him by (literally) I also think if you look at the 2 most progressive riders from 2017-2018 of which Bewley is far and away and miles ahead of the rest that he and Brennan, who seems next best and more progressive than others now, have had bad injuries and come through them. Sometimes those injuries can make and define you if they don't kill your career at that stage. Big fish and little ponds and big ponds and little fish syndrome, Bewley chased it, Bickley it seems didn't.

Glasgow v Scunthorpe 12th June 2023
HGould replied to cinderfella's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Glasgow, as is the way of the Faceena brothers paid top wack for the best Streaming Production available to them at realistic costs. Clearly it must not have made them any money and why should any Club lose money to stream speedway to people who lets be honest are watching on TV as it's easier to do that then get off their backsides and go and watch it live. There will always be genuine and worthy exceptions and away support for whom its more practical, no point denying that but surely it has to be both profitable and sustainable but also not be detrimental to reducing/eroding attendence for the Live version any more. A number of Clubs are doing good streaming but unless in the final analysis it makes them some net profit why would you sell a product for 12 quid that probably 2-3 people watch for one subscription of 12 quid; when those 2-3 people could be spending £50-£60 to come in and another £20-£30 on food and drink and possibly merchandise. They would have to buy probably 5-6 streams to generate the possible income from ONE actual visit. It's a sad fact that too many of us, and as a collective it's a trait in Speedway seem to expect hard working Promotions to just keep on subsidising the Team for them to turn up as and when they feel like it. Its not nor has it been for a few decades a sustainable business model. -
he' going to be the next Jack Smith, always the one with promise and potential but basicaly still where he was 3-4 years ago. A good NDL rider who can score a few ponts as a CL reserve. May be a focus on improving in to a CL second string instead of wasting time and money in Poland whould be good advice?

LEICESTER v PLYMOUTH 11-6-22 : 6.30pm
HGould replied to justathought's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The blindingly obvious has been the case for the past few years. The Sport can't any longer support 3 tiers. There has to be a realisation and realignment. A top tier of 10 Clubs and a second tier of 10-12 Clubs. The top tier with all available current PL and CL riders up to current second string CL level. A second tier that would be say 1 x current CL heat Leader then rest of CL teams and incorporate NDL. The second tier may need to incorporate something left field like a dedicated youth race until numbers filter through. Build a direct progression Youth to CL to PL (CL becomes developmental) Any Club with track / training time availability e.g no strict curfew to run organised Northern / Southern style junior racing as second half. Time too to build solidity by saying any new / returning team should have to start in second tier to prove their sustainability and that the older "double up PL/PL generation" not allowed to double down any more. It may shorten some careers but the long term gain would outweigh this surely in building a system of progression rather than the current decay and stagnation. -

Got nothing against Connor Coles nor Jason Edwards but isn't this another case of a completely bent sport and completely bent management committee. Coles was booked and named in a 1 to 7. He is also booked in his actual NDL 1 to 7 for the second match. If he's injured or ill and not available for either then fair play, book the best available rider. If Leicester have suddenly decided Coles is good enough for NDL who after all are going to thrash a mainly MSDL Plymouth Team, but not good enough for their CL team, although he seems to be good enough Scunthorpe then frankly it sucks. Be interesting to know which on duty Management Committee member approved the late change. The sport deserves independent oversight, not a tawdry cartel. -
Since Mr Ford and Mr Middleditch coined the phrase "its not how you start its how you finish", could 2022 finally see their luck running out. Danny King is struggling for whatever reason with machinery and that can affect confidence and is below his usual outstandingly consistent level Richard Lawson started the season in both Leagues is form of his life but apparently having knee ligament issues, riding through the pain, especially when tracks get heavy is impacting. Steve Worrall has finally found his pre 2019 leg break form consistently in 2021 and 2022 but is also showing signs of wear and tear Cook brothers are strong at home and less consistent away, to be expected, but will Tuesday trips to Poland start to impact? Kemp, not for the first time shows brittle self confidence, started the season well but physical and confidence issues starting to impact Ablitt always was going to need top 6 especially fellow reserve to deliver in this cross over season from NDL to CL . Poole will surely invest time in to him as to be honest who else is out there who is better? Leicester have stolen a march on them and look strong favourites for top stop in the table pre the play off cut. Glasgow and Plymouth are thereabouts and Redcar coming on strong, especially with 2 strong reserves both with the confidence that Kemp has lost, plenty of time for another team to click and put a run together, Edinburgh or Scunthorpe possibly?. Once the dam is breached as it was by Leicester on Wednesday night, lets see what this Poole side are made of??..

Birmingham v Edinburgh 08/06/22
HGould replied to Petecc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Parts of Birmingham had extremely heavy flash spells of 5-10 minutes torrential rain during the morning / afternoon. It was very localised but had they have had a couple of those they would have been marginal in terms of having the meeting on. There are occasions when you are damned if you do and damned if you don't and on this occasion to have significantly watered during the day would have been a massive risk. -
Plymouth v Birmingham Tonight June 7th
HGould replied to lewy's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fair play to Plymouth I'd bought an Online Ticket for this match and had a very polite "match off" e-mail off the Club / Ticket Agent at about 10 past 8, well before anything appeared on Social Media. Disappointing but I'll look forwards to the rearranged fixture. -
Rowe wants to ride more in Poland where he has offers, good contacts from a spell in 2020 and also potentially fast bikes prepared by one of the top UK tuners based over there. If that's where he wants to focus people should respect that and he certainly doesn't have the big fish in a small bowl some UK riders suffer from and have all of their careers. He's not going to be riding for any Friday / Saturday / Sunday track in UK on that basis and as U24 league is on a Tuesday in Poland that really narrows his CL options you'd think for a home track and he'd miss a lot of away matches. Fait play to the kid, he's showing ambition

Giving up Poland for The Toon. Has Mike Ashley made a huge donation?

It's well documented and common knowledge that the issue for the Atkins family at Somerset and Plymouth was Garry May and his insistence of continually swapping reserves over. Some riders need a kick up the backside others need an encouraging arm and some support. Atkins is still an excellent talent and hopefully Jason Crump and Peter Shroek can harness and encourage it and get his career back on track.

Jubilee Weekend Friday - Scunthorpe v Redcar 5pm
HGould replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
credit where it's due and absolutely everything you say is irrefutable and correct. the elephant in the room though is that is this business model (however laudible for Scunthorpe) the model that THE CHAIRMAN on the Management Committee should be advocating. sadly most of the TRacks under his control can't adopt the model and cheap and cheerful does not cut it I'm sure with the sort of major Sponsors and professional outlook the Sport wishes to attract. That's why the loss of people like Adrian Smith, who had the business background and vision to promote the sport should be deeply concerning as the Sport needs bringing in to the 21st century in the UK. massive credit and respect for the way he runs and the stability he has created at Scunny, no doubt about that BUT is this a model for the Sport in the 21st digital media era, I'd argue not. -
Can't you accept the fact that Berwick, like some other Clubs don't have the confidence in their local wi-fi network to either stream commercially all of the time nor offer card payments. Can't you give them credit for being 100% transparent about this. What's worst, being clear entry is via Cash or taking a risk, crossing their fingers and praying that a wi-fi signal will be good enough to allow people who think they can pay by card to be able to use a card. Who'd be the first to moan he drove 300 miles each way to Berwick to find his card didn't work because the wi-fi signal had dropped out. Fair play to Jamie Courtney and everyone at Berwick who run a tight and successful ship.

There is one Club at fault here and it's not Edinburgh or Glasgow its Rawicz. Dishonouring commitments, playing the bully and disregarding other European Countries is a stain on Polish Speedway. It's crystal clear that Championship Clubs, particularly those who race on Saturday / Sunday and indeed any other Club wishing to ride on those dates or on occasions on a Friday; are going to be compromised by people who will chop and change Fixtures at a whim. Please don't beat each other up when the perps are in Poland! -

Yes the appointment of Junior to replace the old man was one of those moves that you'd more associate with Boris Johnson. Does anyone know was there a ballot, were any other promoters given a chance to apply, or did senior just proxy his position to the puppet? -
Plymouth v Edinburgh 31/05
HGould replied to Jonnybegood's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
When Plymouth or any CL Friday team for that matter can often have half or more if their team riding PL the night before, its probably wise to do their main PR once all riders have reported in fit. Fans should also remember that most clubs are run by people who have a day job and press officers the same and often volunteers. Not all Clubs are run by chateau owners. -
Glasgow should be submerged with requests from riders then. My mate who is in the Flat Earth Society is adamant its downhill all the way home in neutral.
-
I guess that depends Club by Club on the basis of (a) any Contractual agreement with the provider (b) what they have invested in equipment. As you indicate, if it's costing money then surely a Club would have the balls to stop it (may be thats what Glasgow did?). The issue with straming no-one other than Owners IF they have the data is how many tickets a Stream purchaser would normally buy? If one guy buys a stream but would usually take a family of 4 it's never going to be cost effective, if a single person buys a stream instead of going, it is cost effective you'd think. The danger is the easier that you make it for a very regular and occasional regular not to go and to sit at home, the bigger the problem for the Club.
