Will British Speedway Survive ?
Falcon1983 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm working on my plan for british speedway (if I had any sort of voice that is) going to take me most of the week to put it together but will post it up. Might like it if you like cricket (I don't like cricket). Stay tuned for Friday haha -
Will British Speedway Survive ?

MMA became more family friendly thanks to the continued development of its rules and operations. UFC originally had limited rules mismatched fights, soccer kicks to a ground opponent etc. It has forever evolved and then filtered down to grass roots level. Say even 10-15 years ago it was brutal and I doubt many families would go. Guys would rock up at grass roots level not having a clue who they would be fighting. Now kids go with their parents, women go out in groups and it's much more professional but its evolved over time speedway in its entirety is still the same as before Probably cant use UFC as an example to british speedway because UFC has all the stars but grass roots UKMMA is similar to speedway -

People say the product has been diluted over the years but if you take say the last 10-15 years I've probably seen the same number of heats per season that I thought "wow what a race" diluting of product isn't necessarily the quality of riders on show, as the odd GP has shown in the past, on a poor track the racing is just as dire as any other meeting. Speedway has ploughed along more or less the same as it was at the start, all I have seen over the years are either slight tweaks to the same format or just rebranding names of leagues I.e. covering dog poo in a quality street wrapper. Think the sport needs a massive overhaul in an attempt to bring new fans in, I say attempt because you can't fault someone who tries, if an effort is made then so be it if it doesnt attract new fans because either way the sport probably is on it's way out over a 5-10 year period. I have my own thoughts on a way forward which is different to what it is now, it would mean less teams (as we'll likely lose some tracks due to this inactivity) it would also mean losing the few top end riders who ride GP and Poland etc. -

Think we should all share our thoughts on how speedway could be run in this country say next year onwards and all have an open mind opinion on each suggestion rather than falling out. Could come up with some blinding ideas -

I think it's time british speedway in a sense looked after it's own clubs, it's own riders and it's own fans. No restrictions on when you can run your speedway night, a less is more club offering on the league front with more focus on the individual element for British Riders and Championship. There is no better time than now really to act once this is all over, it's likely a few teams will be lost but with limited riders to go around and the necessity really to run more on the days thay benefit your business in terms of crowd size etc. Then less clubs isn't a bad thing until more young british or commonwealth riders are coming through the system -
Lambert to comeback stronger.?

So Bewley and Lambert but what about non Brits currently riding in the UK who could make the GPs slightly off topic but keeps it going -

Might seem an off topic question, however how many British riders ride in the Premiership and how many in the championship who should be in the prem? -

Housing developers would probably pick up the tracks people own and I guess the ones they rent too as stocks and dog racing will be in the same boat. Just hope enough survive to have some form of speedway available -

Let's say speedway went to the wall. What tracks realitiscially would be available on a hire basis for some form of future racing and which tracks would be lost completely? -
Will the premiership start on time?
Falcon1983 replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Lots of different things being posted by different media. Truth is nobody actually knows anything about what is planned or what will be planned other than the short term. If you believe april may june july august or no racing that you prerogative -
Will the premiership start on time?
Falcon1983 replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I can see a May start for speedway as I see maybe mid april as a time where cases of covid19 will start decreasing (depends what sites you read and what you believe). I think if the BSPA can run at least one home vs one away meeting I.e. league tie for the prem then straight into the play offs at least there will be some top flight speedway What they could do also to help british riders is extend the British championship to a 7 round series at each prem stadium and offset 50% of the gate into prize money to help the riders against costs and loss of earnings through less league meetings -

It is not just clubs that may not survive How many large corporations sponsor speedway vs small businesses, if they suffer loss of business then they are going to withdraw sponsorship to clubs, riders etc. it will all have a knock on effect I can see the premiership if being run this season being literally 1 Home vs 1 Away then straight into the play-offs, at least we will see some Speedway. Imagine if riders had proper contracts with Speedway clubs and clubs still had to pay riders during this time -
Such a shame

Premiership Junior League
Falcon1983 replied to BuxtonTiger's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Prem is Home/Away twice but the junior league is only 1 home/1 away -
It was well documented as Baldy says above who also follows that championship quite closely if i remember correctly - He probably knows more than me as I do not look at entry lists etc. but I only copy and pasted my part because it was "fresh" from the BSB facebook page, I didn;t know and I am not going to know if I don't go out and find the information myself that he signed for MSS Kawasaki until I actually saw it first hand. Really good team that he has signed for, lots of pedigree and under Nick Morgan he has a good mentor - I'll certainly be trying to watch the odd race meeting on Eurosport if indeed Eurosport still cover a full days racing of BSB, I know they show most support classes unsure on the junior supersport or not.
-
I believed ya lol just didnt see you mention it before apart from saying he does road racing as opposed to speedway What I pasted was from the BSB Facebook that went up this morning. So jason will look after his son and while over here make a few quid out of speedway

Young Australian race star Seth Crump is moving to the UK to race for MSS Performance onboard a Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the HEL Performance British Junior Supersport Championship. Crump, the son of three-time Speedway World Champion Jason, who is coming out of retirement this year to race for the Ipswich Witches, will race his first full season on the British scene when the season gets underway at Silverstone at Easter. The sixteen-year-old from the Gold Coast, Australia, came to international attention when he won the Phillip Island MotoGP support class race and has also already won a round of the Australian SBK series in his class.

Peterborough Panthers 2020
Falcon1983 replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If its Nicholls and Ulrich and nicholls isn't so hot at home then give him 3 rides, scott away from home potentially having 7 rides at wolves, ipswich etc is a good weapon -
how much roughly is glove sponsorship? Might look at doing something with a rider myself perhaps.
-
Based on near full sides I'm going to settle for 1. Swindon 2. Peterborough 3. Wolves 4. Sheffield 5. Kings Lynn 6. Belle Vue 7. Ipswich

Riders are but if you're getting polish money you will do whatever the club wants -
Maybe Holder will join him mid season once Visas are sorted? Someone said crumps son is over as he excels in his sport, is this speedway or another sport?
-
JL yes was criticised for not making changes but CL is rightly criticised for making changes too late I.e. Chris Harris last season should have been let go alot sooner It is a numbers game and would have been less of a risk if crumps average was low enough to maybe had Nicholls at reserve but now it really puts pressure on the full 1-7 including Drew who now cant be allowed time to adjust to this level Can't see CL dropping king, heeps, allen at all can't see them dropping Crump either after bringing him out of retirement it will possibly be crump himself who will drop himself if his return is not as he expects it Possible they may drop Klindt possibly Covatti and Drew will only be part of it if it's a numbers game. Using King as an example he had a poor finish to last season and was lucky to be in this years side but the club are loyal to their golfers, I mean riders I guess as mentioned already by someone else give it 8 meetings see where they are but I expect to be bottom 2 If this team goes unchanged and makes the plays offs I'll do a lap of foxhall in my boxer shorts lol
-
Ok I will restate weakest looking side on paper starting the season lol Do you think chris and richard will be ballsy enough to drop Crump if it's not working out? I think generally they are quite weak in that area Compared to last season its weaker but let's see how it goes, crump on a 6.5 average would have been there or thereabouts for me but to be savaged with 8.21 is just wow As baldy says they've struggled for a heat leader and it's clear that there is limited availability and 95% was possibly thrown into the Holder basket
