Seems like an opportunity for the club to make a statement on the clubs website....build a bit of publicity and momentum for the start of the season???
Press and practice just 3 weeks away!?
Not wanting to sound 'dis-respectful' here.....are we swaying away from the thread point by analysing how many Brits each team have, as opposed to the development, or lack of, re: British Talent?
B'ham have 5 Brits, but how many of that 5 are we helping to develop? answer would be 3 imo ?
Are we asking for safer racing ? or better racing ?
Better/closer racing will always come with a high safety risk ?
It's tracks where riders fall without being challenged that need addressing? ( e.g Ashley Morris at Poole last season....bend 3 if i remember correctly?)
What we want is dirt on the track, just to give the rider an option of either racing, or just settling for whatever position they find themselves in after the start?
As for better racing? it would be a good idea to try and get all gate positions equal if that was possible? (just for starters.....pardon the pun)
I guess you have to earn respect and that can be done in many ways ?
i don't think you have to have been a 'good' rider to earn respect ?
Integrity, commitment and passion would be top of my list!
Everyone loves a trier as they say !
It all points to a positive acquisition.....I can't see him having 'any' authority when LR is present ? we might need someone with a tad more experience for tactical decisions?
He sounds very knowledgeable re: engines/set-ups etc ?
Alan was hard, but not dirty imo Sid !? having said that, I was only a kid when he was in his prime, so I wouldn't of had the knowledge to make judgement?
As for CM? he admitted that he 'done' Big Al, simply because he wanted to knock him down a peg or two!
I think what we all agree on is that more could and should be done to develop our future prospects? It doesn't even have to be about giving them CL team places.....
Probably not the right section for this topic, but as it's so popular/current and as not to dominate Poole's thread ? : )
Should we be listing riders that 'we' as fans feel deserve a Championship Team Place and the BSPA should be supporting ?
There are a few obvious choices and I'll start it off with Alfie Bowtell !
Speaking of development/age....I don't think Jason Doyle hit the highs until mid/late 20's ? nobody would have predicted him being World Champ especially in its current format?
I would have liked to have seen the BSPA insist that all teams have at least 1 'young' Brit at reserve. There are enough to go round! Maybe the BSPA could have funded each riders performance, which would make it more appealing to each promoter?
Poole's job isn't to develop British talent, it's to put a team together that brings in the fans, which in turn increases income and sustainability. (IMO)
