Birmingham Brummies 2020

Not sure what the costs will be...but IF they run, I think £20 plus a free programme would be a reasonable shout to me. I'm sure everyone will have their own opinion/s. I'd also like to see some changes to the rules, especially the movement at the start ? (I know it's not going to happen/change...) But allowing movement at the start adds to the excitement IMO....giving the 'lesser' rider a chance to anticipate a rolling start makes for a better race, especially when the more skilled/quicker rider has to chase....also, it would even out the gate advantage...especially when gate 1, or 4 has a clear head start...... Racing is far too processional and this only adds to the monotony of a lot of speedway meetings. I asked a friend of mine if he ever watches speedway on Sky/BT and he said no, simply becoz 9 times out of 10, 'first one to the corner' usually wins.... 'WE' (speedway fans) know that this isnt true, but it's easy to see why 'NON' speedway fans would assume/think this IMO. -

Coz the product is 'shi*e' ! -
Nicholls is a great role model to lead the club....wish I didnt live so far from Oxford coz I'd definitely back them if B'ham don't return!

So true! If Mahmood had a son that rode speedway, it would be packed out every week ! -

Bottom line.....I guess the future of Birmingham Speedway is in the hands of finding sufficient Sponsorship....end of ! -

Stoke? says it all really.... I think a B'ham/Cov combo would work ....no doubt Cov fans will start firing at me -

I totally agree that it's not ideal....but might just help to 'tread-water' for a season or two? I guess it's all about pride/tradition and more realistically 'geographics' ? -

I actually think that the negative posts are positive to the cause... It's the livliest Birmingham speedway forum link in a long time. Lets keep talking ! Survival is probably a long shot, but there's nothing wrong with having 'Hope' ! I just wonder whether a change of name and an amalgamation with Cov/Cradley would be a positive move? May be one more season at Perry Barr, whilst working on plans to move (if possible) in 2023. If I win the lottery, I'd definitely build a new track -

One other thing about sponsorship etc....Mark Elkin who's a very well known Darts/Sports management owner, is a massive lifelong Brummies fan...he's always at Home meetings. He manages some of the biggest stars in the darts world.....it would be great if we could lean on his expertise ....may be? -

It's such a shame that we have missed out on any 'sports funding' for Birmingham, with 'us' (B'ham) being the hosts of the Common Wealth Games in 2022.(July/August) -

You could be right...but it says '1000' to break even - 'without heavy sponsorship'..... So, heavy sponsorship seems to be the most achievable/realistic target? ARC's demands are the worrying factor for me......and for the future/going forward etc -

suggestions would be good as to the way forward? I like the thought of allowing the kids (accompanied by an adult) to go in the pits/walk the track before the meeting etc.... Definitely have a raffle and allow the winner/s to watch the last 3 heats (after the interval)from the Centre Green (however many is safely allowed) Speedway from the middle is an incredible experience. I know Health and safety wouldn't allow it now....but when I was a kid, you used to get the odd lucky fan, go round on the front/back of the bike with their favourite rider... It's a shame that this wouldn't be possible nowadays. May be run some competitions/raffles which would allow a supporter to spend a whole meeting in the pits....or allow a junior to lead the teams out on parade etc... Just throwing ideas about.... -

When possible....I think the Masons did as much as they could to get the younger generation involved....they really tried hard to put on some Centre Green entertainment during the interval. However, I'm not sure the old die hard's just wanting to see the match and then shoot straight off after Heat 15, appreciated all those efforts. Especially when it's a boring meeting in the freezing cold etc etc etc..... It's a really difficult balancing act by the looks of it...... -

Was there any talk of providing a decent race surface? -

I can't see B'ham hitting 1000 spectators alone....but if we joined forces with Cradley/Coventry as a unified set-up, then may be that would be the way forward? Just a thought!? -
I think Jack Thomas should be added to the list.....he might be 22, but take 2020 out (no speedway)

I don't see anyone else making an effort....fair play to LR for giving up his time..... He might not be everyone's cup of tea for one reason or another, but he must have the respect of riders, or else he wouldn't still be involved? I don't know? I don't pay attention to rumours, or past stories.....It's the present and future that matters for B'ham now! -
Potentially .... good side!
-
I think Jack Thomas would be a good acquisition for Poole in 2022.
-
Plus....the product is sh#te and the back bone of fans are/were die-hards and not many new blood coming through? maybe ?
-
As an away supporter....Friday travel would be my least favourite day....Sunday's being the most convenient. I remember when I was a kid, my Dad would take me to see Boston every now and then. (random...travelling from B'ham) Carl Glover was the main man at the time...(I think?) = 1974/5

Ditto ! The closest I venture to B'ham (apart from when in the City Centre) is Castle Bromwich, even that is starting to become over populated.... Solihull, Shirley, Sutton Coldfield, Water Orton and Coleshill are the only decent areas of B'ham IMO.... I don't know much about Kings Heath/Norton to pass comment on that side of Town?
