  1. It's such a shame that we have missed out on any 'sports funding' for Birmingham, with 'us' (B'ham) being the hosts of the Common Wealth Games in 2022.(July/August)
  2. You could be right...but it says '1000' to break even - 'without heavy sponsorship'..... So, heavy sponsorship seems to be the most achievable/realistic target? ARC's demands are the worrying factor for me......and for the future/going forward etc
  3. suggestions would be good as to the way forward? I like the thought of allowing the kids (accompanied by an adult) to go in the pits/walk the track before the meeting etc.... Definitely have a raffle and allow the winner/s to watch the last 3 heats (after the interval)from the Centre Green (however many is safely allowed) Speedway from the middle is an incredible experience. I know Health and safety wouldn't allow it now....but when I was a kid, you used to get the odd lucky fan, go round on the front/back of the bike with their favourite rider... It's a shame that this wouldn't be possible nowadays. May be run some competitions/raffles which would allow a supporter to spend a whole meeting in the pits....or allow a junior to lead the teams out on parade etc... Just throwing ideas about....
  4. When possible....I think the Masons did as much as they could to get the younger generation involved....they really tried hard to put on some Centre Green entertainment during the interval. However, I'm not sure the old die hard's just wanting to see the match and then shoot straight off after Heat 15, appreciated all those efforts. Especially when it's a boring meeting in the freezing cold etc etc etc..... It's a really difficult balancing act by the looks of it......
  5. Was there any talk of providing a decent race surface?
  6. I can't see B'ham hitting 1000 spectators alone....but if we joined forces with Cradley/Coventry as a unified set-up, then may be that would be the way forward? Just a thought!?
  7. I think Jack Thomas should be added to the list.....he might be 22, but take 2020 out (no speedway)
  8. I reckon 'Smolinski' will be back if we manage to survive!
  9. I don't see anyone else making an effort....fair play to LR for giving up his time..... He might not be everyone's cup of tea for one reason or another, but he must have the respect of riders, or else he wouldn't still be involved? I don't know? I don't pay attention to rumours, or past stories.....It's the present and future that matters for B'ham now!
  10. I think Jack Thomas would be a good acquisition for Poole in 2022.
  11. Plus....the product is sh#te and the back bone of fans are/were die-hards and not many new blood coming through? maybe ?
  12. As an away supporter....Friday travel would be my least favourite day....Sunday's being the most convenient. I remember when I was a kid, my Dad would take me to see Boston every now and then. (random...travelling from B'ham) Carl Glover was the main man at the time...(I think?) = 1974/5
  13. Ditto ! The closest I venture to B'ham (apart from when in the City Centre) is Castle Bromwich, even that is starting to become over populated.... Solihull, Shirley, Sutton Coldfield, Water Orton and Coleshill are the only decent areas of B'ham IMO.... I don't know much about Kings Heath/Norton to pass comment on that side of Town?
  14. It's even worse now! A right proper sh#t hole....the surrounding areas are no better (including Perry Barr).
  15. Well if that is the case then I would owe Erik an apology and I duly oblige.
  16. It could have been more had he tried his best, instead of deliberately lowering his average IMO!
  17. If B'ham were to appear again next season....which I doubt very much at Championship level...I wouldnt want to see Riss or Grobauer, both a waste of space IMO! Everything is specualtion and its a load of b#ll#cks discussing it until someone makes a firm commitment/statement!
  18. One league would be my preference....cuts out the doubling up rubbish....more meetings to make up for less earnings.
  19. On reflection, not sure what I enjoyed most? GB winning (simply coz I'm not used to it...) or the fact that we stuffed the Poles for a change ? It's great to 'shut up' their bullish following!
  20. Unfortunately, a lot of the competing countries don't have 4 capable riders at that level.... Certainly didnt feel sorry for the Poles ! Regarding those that say we were lucky? Tell me what was lucky about losing one of the best riders in the world on day one?
  21. Unbelievable result in the Final! However, what impressed me the most was the fact that 'we' beat arguably the form team of the day (Denmark) in a nerve jangling Semi-Final.... Our young HEROES showed incredible bottle/nerve and there was no luck involved, just pure 'CLASS'! P.s I would have been tempted to rest Lambert/Bewley in the 'nothing' final race against Australia...just in case ? (especially with Doyle in the race).
