  1. Yes I know....but the point I was making to AP was that we were always going to sign less expensive riders, not Just because we were choosing from 'what's left' ..... which is what his post referred to.... No matter when we were going to put a team together - October 2021 or December 2021, we were always going to sign riders that we could afford and not riders that the everyday fan had on their Christmas list.
  2. Newcastle knew they were riding in 2022, so what's their excuse for another 'poor' side ? (not meaning to sound 'challenging', just questioning the point you're trying to make)
  3. Entertaining speedway on a well prepared track is certainly not boring ..... But we do need to sign at a couple of riders that's going to attract the 'neutral' fan... I'm sure there's more revenue in one season from a 'neutral' speedway fan attending, than a 'new' face....(just my opinion...) Back in the 70/80's, I never missed a B'ham home meeting (religion) but my old man would take me to see Cradley on a Saturday and sometimes Wolves on a Friday, simply because they both had riders worth watching....I know it's different these days.....there's no so called 'stars' at any club. Gone are the Box Office days of Olsen v Mauger....Penhall v Carter....Gundersen v Nielsen....to name but a few !! I'm so envious of the 'Poles' these days
  4. So far as team building goes? Whatever riders we sign, bham fans are hopefully going to turn up....so for me, looking at the bigger picture...we need to assemble a side that's going to attract the neutral fan once in a while....that's where our extra revenue is going to come from... for me, I would go to a meeting to see decent racing, whether it was bham or not.... so, message to the new consortium, sign a rider that the neutral wud cum to see....don't just sign has beens......
  5. I'm guessing Glasgow will re-sign him, but I like the look of Sam Jensen.
  6. Not inspired by that signing at all...... Didnt he quit half way through last season?
  7. Ha ha .....well, I really did think Smolinski would be joining us, especially after he came close to signing last season (but you've squashed that thought ....) So, it's difficult to forecast without knowing who's available? Realistically, Danny King or Adam Ellis would fit the bill ? (but can't see that happening....) As for who I'd like? anyone with an average above 8, other than Riss/Lawson. I have a sneaky feeling that Steve Worrall might be in the running? Good rider and great guy, but don't think it would set the world alight. I'm pleased with Shanes/Morris as our first 2 signings though. We definitely must sign Thomas IMO !
  8. Agreed! I do think that the next signing needs to be someone other than the obvious, just to get season ticket sales moving.... People have money in December, but skint in Jan/Feb
  9. Apologies dude.... There's been that many posts/names....it doesn't take a lot to confuse me these days
  10. Phew.....great news ! I think S4S mentioned Broc Nicol? I'd love to see him at PB especially when he's dialled in....
  11. I like your post....my late father's favourite line was 'I'm Birmingham T I D ! I think the first home match was a 39 all draw with Long Eaton (early May?) It was my first ever match (I was 4 years old)...I still have the programme and subsequently every home meeting programme from that season in 71....and so on. Right up until the great PB closed.
  12. My take on a 'fans favourite' isn't necessarily down to a riders performance week in week out? I think (and only think...) that Shanes and Morris, both make a lot of time to chat and interact with fans before, during and after meetings....just my observation. Both very approachable/affable riders/personalities. Basically, nice guys....I'm sure Paco is regarded in the same mould and will no doubt be one of the next signings. (as quoted by Col...)
  13. That rarely happens these days....it's usually just dust in your eyes now
  14. It says on the website that they hope to announce the next signing by the end of the week? I'll be surprised if its not Thomas or Paco ..... If it was me, I'd be going all out to announce a signing that made people want to buy a season ticket (Christmas present etc...)
  15. I think Agertoft had a lot of potential...his equipment let him down. Even Thomsen came good towards the back end of the season. I think that these riders were signed on the basis that we were seeking 'assets'.....not sure if that was the case, but it was something that I heard in conversation. Anyway....it's history and we move forward, hopefully......
  16. Eastbourne got away with it for years and so did Coventry at Brandon
  17. That's about right as far as Morris/Shanes are concerned..... As for the next few signings? I recall reading LR's statement of intent and he said that he's hoping to assemble a side that can challenge for the Play Offs ? Which means it needs to be better/equal to last seasons side.....
  18. Well, if you pay yer money to attend, then you have every right to have an opinion...(good or bad...) I actually think that Morris and Shanes will be decent performers on a 'new' grippy track..... Both riders have bags of bottle and on their day, can be both entertaining and match winners.
  19. Rowe and Thomas at reserve would be a good shout IMO
  20. Nobody will be moaning.....WE are just glad to be still ' breathing' !
  21. I think it's debatable if he was treated harshly last time round? Most of the 2019 team were terrible and he was probably a scapegoat for the poor results.... Him and Oyster were well below their best at the time.... I think Newman is on par with Morris/Shanes.....it wont improve us, but wont make us worse ?
  22. As expected....could be worse... Paco and Thomas will be next (IMO) It does look likely that we'll end up with Newman....leaving a fair chunk for the last 2 riders. I'm sure there will be at least one big hitter ?
