  1. Do people only come on this forum to have a rant about speedway? Its very sad that all fans can do is moan, always looking for the negative, No mention yet of a great nights racing, pleanty of passing , a great performance by all of the Brummies, no mention of Grobauer being on the pace, ash back to form , a great perfomace by Paco who beat Jake Allen,, Riss with his jaw dopping ride against the air fence in ht 15., come on peeps lighten up.
  2. improved crowd level over the past couple of meetings, think it will go up now the lads are getting back in the groove. you missed a good one, great nights racing plenty of passing ht 3 with Ash and Jake Allen passing and repassing was great.
  3. Did fancy our chances here but then I saw that Grobauer was riding, race rusty, just back from injury and has never ridden the PB track in anger, just hope Paco is back to form to take some of his rides.
  4. Nice sunny evening more people on the terraces, track was good, plenty of grip on the outside, Less dust then I expected, well run meeting no hanging about big improvement, I thoroughly enjoyed it , looking forward to the next meeting.. Yes we lost (no surprise) and nothing can change that, out gated yes, but we must remember that the Brummies are race rusty except for Harris. No meetings for weeks, Scunny on the other hand have now done 12 meetings and some of their riders are racing in other leagues and countries, give the lads chance! I did'nt think our guest did us any favours. only 7 from Lawson. Shanes pass was sublime untill he fell off, can't blame the lad for trying but he does need to get his engine/clutch set up right and maybe technique, cos that bike is a slug out of the start, thought he had left the hand brake on..
  5. Agree, although I saw a good few meandering
  6. I meant he will do better than last nights score, he usually does at least at home.
  7. Quote from this weeks Brummie prog by Chris Harris. quote " Ive ridden plenty of tracks that have been a a lot worse than Birmingham was last Wednesday but I have been around a lot longer than some of these boys nowdays I guess. I know I'll probably get moaned at but when its like that, you've just got to use your head a bit more but you can still race." un quote
  8. Given the diversity of opinion on here you would'nt think we were all at the same meeting. for what it worth here's my two penny worth. Despite loosing I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting, some good racing and the track 100% better than last week, it looked smooth to me if it had been choppy Harris would have been winning races, (see his notes in this weeks prog) I thought the crowd level was pretty decent, not helped by last weeks farce. Online booking is a barrier to some and having to pay a booking fee is unhelpful, Glasgow deserved to win although I think it was winnable for the Brummies, a couple of decent gates would have made the difference, C'est la vie where was Nichol Oyster card, flying, real surprise this season, someone has sponsored/paid for a couple of top class engines for this season , no other explanation? Sam Jensen Like a lot of youngsters can ride quick when they gate and out in front but lack the nesessary experience to come from behind, Ive no doubt he will improve! the same could be said for Brummies Jack Thomas whos race time in his first heat was comparable to other heat winners but finished last when he missed the gate. Harris, oh dear gater of old, although he provided the best race of the night. Riss , not impressive to start with but showed more effort and determination in his last couple of ridess Shanesie, not bad, he will get better but his grass tracking is holding back his progress in speedway, (he is fantastic on the grass a joy to watch, see U-tube ) Morris has been out for two years, 100% effort, just needs a few more matches under his belt, he will come good. Looking forward to the Poole match, oh yes, Grobauer could be a problem he needs track time at PB to get dialed in.
  9. Lets hope Ashley Morris stays upright
  10. Hi Gentelmen, as a newby on here my posts have to be approved, so I do not know how long it will be before this post appears on this thread. It just so happens I recently took my old 2 valve Jawa engine for restoration to a well known engine builder and tuner, and we chin wagged for an hour or two about speedway, he was also the man who did ( and will be doing) Grobauers engines, so he new first hand the problems, nothing to startling and I am not going to broadcast the details, but I understand the problems he had at Somerset. The tuner thinks Grobauer is a good prospect and could be a suprise package for the Brummies, given the right enviroment, and made to feel at home. Cant wait for the season to start

  13. Hello good people, very interesting! Unfortunately the team is not Warrington nor the year 1930. They had 4 man teams + a reserve without a programmed ride in 1930 . The Photo shows a 7 man team, a format which they returned to in 1931. The race jacket is the real clue. if you enlarge the photo you will see it is an ace of spades not a circle, you can see the tang/stalk of the bottom of the ace clearly on riders 2 & 3, this is the emblem of Sheffield 1931-33, Red Ace of Spades on a cambridge blue background. The venue is I believe, Belle Vue. I have similar photos of the Shefield team at BV but of a different year (John Somerville collection) I believe the little face peeping out from under his crash hat, (rider no. 1) is that of Dusty Haigh ? with a bit more reaserch I may be able to name some of the other riders but unfortunately most of my research work, photos and books are in storage under a pile of other stuff!
