The grandstand was outdated, and pretty crap if we are being honest. Find somewhere else and make it a multi functional facility. I accept there is a lot of history etc there & this will irk many.. and the challenges are obviously big.

Can they not even spell benevolent..

A rally… effing hell… I hope Buster hasn’t approached a local school to come up with some *cough* rallying words for a sing a long. This has happy clappers written all over it. They should seek out some No To Oil protesters… that would get some attention, maybe splash Purple & White paint over some retailers window and glue their knackers to a programme board.

Tarnished? lol… I guess all the multi national sponsors will pull out, and the back page headlines will have a huge effect, I get your sentiment but please!!!

You’re not putting your life on the line, £1000 a week isn’t that much money, especially once taxed etc.. until anyone tells me what a generic Speedway riders contract looks like.. then it’s all conjecture, riders can also get dropped at a moments notice.. unlike most other jobs. I know what a footballer’s contract is largely consisted of, because it’s an open sport, helping it to appeal to a broader audience. A footballer could well be/and is on a basic salary over a period of time, appearance bonuses, win bonuses, image rights, cup/league bonuses, goal bonuses, loyalty bonuses, likely to get a bonus if represents their country (if they haven’t already) individual targets set by the club.. clauses to allow personal appearances on radio/tv etc.. and clauses inserted to do work in the local community and so forth….

I don’t blame you… it’s playing on diehards emotions basically.. and offering up, not a lot.

Peterborough Speedway - petition
Littleze replied to Mick Bratley's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Blame the promoters for that and the governing authorities.. people pay through the gate, they raise money for Ben fund, used to be collected from the crowd back in the day, people give up their time to help in the off season etc.. sponsor a rider.. and so on. You can’t expect people to keep stepping up when the general consensus is the promoters don’t. -

I’d watch that all day long.. looks great.

It would be good to hear what has been tried & tested, agree with concrete/tarmac..
-
Closest racing there has been for years.. similar sized crowd too :)
-
I recall Ole Olsen saying that he/they (the authorities) were looking at different surfaces to race on, this was probably 10 or more years ago… never heard the outcome of this (unsurprisingly)

Leicester vs Kings Lynn 17/7/23
Littleze replied to Lenny Lion's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
EXACTLY.. a quick win, that’s makes it look professional and that you’re bothered.. they expect riders to be immaculate. There are many quick, cheap easy wins.. but hey, said this a zillion times. -
I have no idea what it involves or takes to run a Speedway Club or the logistics and finances it requires.. I have run/managed football clubs.. and regardless of the level… it takes time, and commitment, so I’m reluctant to dig out individuals, however… as a (presumably) collective it’s failure upon failure year in year out.. aided and abetted by the Speedway Star.. their cosy journalism* etc are complicit imo. Do they know any other word to describe a healthy crowd (it’s always BUMPER… I mean even that word is from the 70’s) i think you need to let it fail, otherwise you’re just saying… this is fine by me.

That’s what Speedway clubs always do, put it on the fans, by promoting fear.. Cov, Lynn recently, Newcastle, Swindon.. blah blah blah. seriously, what’s to lose.. a weekly tradition, you’ll soon find something else to replace it with, most others have. I’ve been attending since my Mum & Dad took me to Rye House when I was 6months old.. (obviously I was oblivious) we went every week, often to tracks of teams we didn’t support. I didn’t have a car for a few yrs (late 20’s) I’m 51 now.. I went to Peterborough and took my then gf and my mum.. gf had never been & mum had not attended for years… I was early 30’s.. I ran up to see the track, crowd..I was a kid again. I/we had a good night, but I soon realised it was amateurish.. C Horton was in charge at the time.. and it’s been a love/hate again ever since.. and then I went to Cardiff last year…with a mate who had never been there. I can’t even be arsed to explain what I thought of that day/night. i also had a letter published in the Speedway Star, years ago now.. saying the same s*it I and many others have been saying for years.. it’s effing boring & I bore myself with it.

I’m sure many riders would like to have “ a club” the rules dictate they move about, be that 1-7 or guests… it’s their chosen living & they take risks. it’s a bs/contrived.. “cough” sport. People like to belong, be that in relationships, a work environment, a band, a team to play in or follow etc etc.d How can you get behind a team in Speedway when many of the team change year in year out, and often on a wk to wk basis. That’s how you build something and something sustainable.. Speedway can’t do that, which then leads to apathy and zero credibility… Sports pages would love to get behind something creating a buzz (for sales obvs) it’s crisis after crisis.. I wonder how Discovery view this farce.

You’re about 30yrs late with this comment.. but yes.

You’re only paying for that rubbish if you attend. If you don’t go, you keep your money and don’t have to watch rubbish. The power lies with you.

Leicester lions 2023 (PREMIERSHIP)
Littleze replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
At least it’s not Kevin and Perry. -
Just be upfront then, have some integrity, all it has done is shine the spotlight on them and the sport further..
-
I agree totally. I was at the farce of Cardiff last year… but still, it’s levels above what we have here, even at the most basic level, where there should be some parity.
-
I fully get that..& have done this myself, but it’s my opinion that if people keep supporting this contrived “sport” then there won’t be any real change, it may be too late for that anyway. I wonder how Discovery view the nonsense & unprofessionalism of the organisation & individuals, any forward steps that they may have made in the GP’s is undermined by British Speedway.

Don’t ever come on here and moan then. They will keep taking your money..& nothing will change.
