Fantastic to have competitive Speedway back at Worky. The delight delight on the faces of the long term fans was plain to see. Thank you to all members of the wider Speedway family who made the journey, I'm sure every one of you help make it an even more special day for Andrew, Steve and the rest of the team who have worked tirelessly to make it happen. The weather was the icing on the cake. Nice to get the new era off to a winning start. Some fans not used to this level of speedway may well have been surprised with the general high quality of racing but these young men are obviously very comfortable and accomplished on the bike. All square after 7 heats at 21 all Comets took control of the second half of the meeting with 4 5-1's not conceding another heat advantage and the like of Sam McGurk, Connor Bailey, Ace Pjiper and Elliot Kelly gave the fans a glimpse of the competitive racers they are. Can't wait for next week. UTC !!!

this would be great. I believe that that the BSPA apparently own the name so there will be money involved.

Hi THJ I've been away for a couple of weeks and was dismayed and angered to read about the vandalism and burglary that has gone on in that time. Your above post though has helped lift the gloom a bit. Andrew and the team must have been demoralised yet again by the low lives who carry out these actions. It's fair to say that the travellers see this area as a soft touch, this is in no small part nurtured by the Police not making use of the powers they have under Section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. The Police do have powers to move a site immediately without recourse to the courts while Allerdale Council does not. Cumbria Constabulary is able to move more quickly and take far more robust action. The claim that Police have no authority to move travellers due to the absence of a dedicated place for them to go in Allerdale is also false. Apparently the fact remains there is no requirement to find the travellers somewhere to go before moving them on. If the Police made use of the powers available to them immediately in response to criminal damage and antisocial behaviour then this would surely act as a powerful deterrent and they would soon get the message. They have been allowed to get away with behaviour that other members of the local community wouldn't get away with for far to long. With the number of Police Officers in Cumbria reported to be at a record high it is good to here about them taking the above action. I hope it's the start of things to come going forward. I did think the travellers would find there way back onto Northside sooner or later especially since the intended CCTV security cameras were not installed at the same time as the security gates. Hope your keeping alright fella.

Agree with this policy completely if possible to do so. Incidents such as this happen somewhere pretty often and the impact of insufficient medical cover to allow meetings to continue quickly is detrimental to how the sport is perceived. It is also hugely frustrating and possibly ultimately off putting to fans who pay to see a meeting.

Fabulous news for all concerned at Newcastle Speedway that you will be coming to tapes in 2022.

Being an ardent Worky fan for many years my heart goes out to Rob Grant, John Courtenay , and all the genuine Diamonds supporters faced with losing their beloved club. It seems like Rob has done all he can but has just been overwhelmed with the eye watering running costs involved in a sport watched by so relatively few people. Best wishes to you all.

Redcar vs Newcastle Fri 23 July

Okay. If this is the protocol agreed with the ambulance service then hypothetically it could influence attendance response times. Again the answer appears to be extra medical cover. -

Speedway is a safety critical sport and fans are absolutely critical to speedway. Enough medical cover to allow racing to continue when a rider gets injured should be a mandatory condition of the sport in my opinion. Finance would have to be raised by whatever means if this was the case. To wait what must have been an hour or more for a county ambulance /paramedic while racing remained paralysed is in my opinion unacceptable and detrimental to people's perception of the sport, something which it has struggled with in recent seasons. As well as a paramedic arriving, a large county ambulance also turned up some 15 to 20 minutes later. This was fortunate because it was still on site when Matty Wethers came to grief otherwise it may not have been possible to get a conclusion to the meeting. The first paramedic who arrived had reportedly already taken Ben Cook to hospital. I just wonder how long an ambulance would have been if Been Cook's injuries had been life threatening ? -
As a neutral i thought that the referee certainly made two wrong decisions and very probably three. For me he got the heat 5 decision to exclude Stefan Nielsen wrong, Jordan Jenkins definitely appeared to make contact with Nielsen's bike which resulted in him coming down. Heat 13 Charles Wright should have gone which has been acknowledged while in heat 14 he awarded second to Paco Castagna when it looked like Drew Kemp repassed him on the run to the line. An enjoyable meeting in spite of the delays .Bomber is always worth watching while Drew Kemp was a great guest for the Bears and ultimately made the difference.

I suggested that the root cause was all the speedway chips over the years but he reckoned it was the stress of the 3 Finals in 2018 . Good to hear further news about his ongoing recovery . Hopefully he steers clear of Covid 19.

Championship Fours 2020
SteelShoe replied to Fortythirtyeight's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Quite simply taken from his quoted words in the article on the British Speedway Official Forum. Describes the weekend following the switch to Leicester as 'a fantastic all round package for fans' . Well that's his opinion and he is fully entitled to it, it just happens to be different to mine. Mentioned Rob a few times ? don't think so but please feel free to prove me wrong. Just because I'm from Worky doesn't automatically mean I've got it in for him. -

I can see why they have done it False Dawn but as usual I don't believe it's for the benefit of the fans however well Rob tries to dress it up. -

Disappointed with this. The Fours at Peterborough racing wise is usually one of the highlight's of the season for me. The venue is also great in terms of seating capacity . Nothing against Leicester but it just doesn't have the same appeal for such a meeting. -
Conner Mountain solid young rider who in my opinion is pretty accomplished around technical tracks so will be useful around Brough Park. Claus had arguably his best ever season in the Championship last year but cannot see him maintaining his average . Great to see Wrighty back. I admit to being surprised bearing in mind how long he has been out of the saddle. In his spells at Worky he went from being a very exciting come from the back around the boards rider to one who hugged the white line on his return in the Keith Denham era. I hope it works out for James and The Diamonds, if he regains his confidence then lets not forget he was a former PLRC Winner so he had plenty of ability.

Wonder which way Ranting Roy will broadcast that one. I reckon it'll be as you put it ' The Whippet James Wright'

You seem to know an awful lot about it Tosh, would you care to elaborate or like Boris Johnson will you duck scrutiny. By the way never say never.
