Workington v Glasgow 11/05/24 3pm (Ch)

I reckon you guys will make it a very uncomfortable afternoon for the Comets team and fans. Hope there is some great racing. Be good to see the Tigers fans at Northside. -
Workington v Recar 04/05/24 3pm koc 2nd leg
SteelShoe replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Probably didn't water the track with the weather like it was and forecast to get a bit worse which indeed it did. The visibility can't have been great with the drizzle and the track top surface definitely got wetter. I personally witnessed many tear offs being pulled off. It was a difficult situation for the promotion to be in and maybe in retrospect from a financial and entertainment point of view one couldn't have argued if they had called it off early. Worky had about 13mm of rain yesterday afternoon/overnight and the practice day had to be cancelled this morning due to the state of the track. -

Workington v Recar 04/05/24 3pm koc 2nd leg

Well done the Bears whom I believe got their first ever victory at Worky. Best of luck for the next round and thanks to the fans who travelled over and were well rewarded with a convincing victory. The Bears gated better and found speed where the home Comets weren't able to. I had a feeling it was going to be one of those days when Cookie made a rare mistake in heat 1 which allowed Charles through for the win, then Claus nearly wiped out an obviously faster Tate in heat 3 which put him out of the race before Cookie lifted while under pressure from Erk Riss in heat 6 and had to bin it. It was without doubt from a Comets fan perspective the most disappointing performance of the season, a bad day at the office and definitely one to forget about. The weather was quite miserable with constant drizzle and misty low cloud not great for speedway, track prep re watering must have been a nightmare . The weather adversely affected the attendance something all promotions can do without. Thanks to Glasgow pair James Pearson and Paul Stark for guesting . Young James in particular caught the eye. For the Bears Jason Edwards was unrecognisable from the rider who scored 2 on his previous visit with 14 points, conversely Jonas Knudsen who scored 12 on his previous visit only managed 2 today . Erik Riss was impressive and confirmed he is definitely over his health issues with 13 points. Like Cookie at Glasgow Charles Wright fell foul of the new rule around starts in heat 13 and went off 15 metres. Connor Bailey was also good value for his 8 points. -

Well done the Tigers, thought you might nick it being at home. Got to say I felt aggrieved at the disqualification of Cookie in heat 1 especially has he had been at the gate in good time and far sooner than Bomber, poor decision by the ref for me . Just to compound the decision Tate had a mechanical (looked like another chain failure for him) coming off turn 4 lap 4 while in the lead turning a 3-3 into a 1-5. Bomber untouchable following his good fortune in heat 1 was ably supported by Leon Flint, James Pearson and Jack Smith who was a different rider from the one who raced at Northside for Scunny on Sunday. Solid performance from Comets top 5, but probably expected Claus to be a bit more dominant. The home reserves outscored Sam and Celina 11 to 2 which proved crucial , two or three points more between them would have gone a long way . Can't help thinking this was a missed opportunity . Thank you Dan Thompson for guesting and putting in a strong performance, much appreciated. Hope we can produce a stronger team performance tomorrow and overturn the 13 point deficit against Redcar and make it to the next round of the KO Cup. Enjoyed the trip as usual, the Facennas have done a great job with the stadium which is improving all the time, so well done them. -

Tigers at home still favourites for me but it could be very close. Much depends on how the Comets reserves go as well as Dan T guesting for Antti. -

Speedway is not a cheap sport, I admit to being surprised when Oxford entered teams in 3 leagues drawing on the same fan base. Hope it works out for them in the best interests of speedway. -

Will still need a strong confident performance from Sam and Celina regardless of who the Tigers have at reserve. -

It is a shame, he is a miss to speedway in general. Would love to see him and his partner back spectating at Worky. -

Tough meeting for the Comets even with Antti in the team so much will depend on how well any guest performs on the night. Don't think we can realistically expect Tate to pull up any trees having not ridden Ashfield before he is still very much finding his feet on the away tracks in the UK. Looking forward to seeing his match ups with James Pearson who has looked very competitive when I've seen him so far. Obviously Cookie and Claus know Ashfield well while Batch has impressed so far especially at Redcar last Friday when he lowered the colours of a very fast Charles Wright in heats 13 and 15 with some top drawer speedway moves. Much could well depend on the reserves, sure I seen it posted somewhere that Ace would be riding ?. Be grateful if anyone can tell me whether it costs more money to sit in the stand these days ?, usually stand when I come up but will have family this time so just wondered ?, thanks in anticipation. See you Tiggers fans Friday weather permitting. -
okay I'll sign off lol

just seen that, unfortunate as not Plymouths usual race night. 6 teams in action that night cuts options right down. probably only really Paul Starke for Celina and James Pearson for Antti if we don't use r/r.
-
Losing Antti for the KOC meeting is a big blow to the chances of overturning the 13 point deficit. It's a tricky one because I also believe we may need a guest for Celina who could be riding in a European Qualifier of some sort. If we could get a decent guest such as Ashton Boughen for Celina then it is a hard call between r/r at 2 or guest such as Dan T/James Pearson.

Looking forward to what is a tough meeting on paper, hard to call because the Scunny heat leader form has been a bit sketchy away from the EWR . The reserves battle is important so the Comets need to see a much improved showing from Sam and Celina against their opposite numbers. Sure all the Comets will be up for this after being mauled by the Bears on Friday. Right now I would just take a win . UTC ! -

Personally I think that Celina is an intelligent charismatic young lady who will quickly assess with help and support from the club were she needs to be with regards to her equipment and gating. She has been given a 4 point assessed average which doesn't particularly bother me. She will be given time as will Sam McGurk who needs to improve in similar areas then we will see where we are. -

Thank you to all the Redcar fans who made the journey over. Speedway clubs have to try and support each other wherever possible. It was a really entertaining meeting despite the delayed start due to the late arrival of the medical cover. Really felt for Danny King who was unfortunately side swiped on the home straight after Sam McGurk appeared to pick up grip and come hurtling across the track, a really nasty looking incident that I was relieved to see him walk away from. Get well soon Danny. Most of the Redcar team showed plenty of spirit with Jonas Knudsen in particular catching the eye on his first visit to The GT Tyres Arena. -

The Bears using rider replacement for Jonas Knudsen who has Polish commitments . Both Charles Wright and Connor Bailey can take a ride, could strengthen them up . We will need to be on it from the off . -

Thoroughly enjoyable meeting at the ECCO Arena tonight. The Comets delighted all their travelling fans with a performance of desire and commitment. 12 points down after 4 heats the team fought their way back into the contest to take it to a last heat decider. Never in front until after heat 15 was just reward for the effort. Cookie and Batch showed what great competitors they can be and reinforced the feeling among the Comets fans that they still have plenty to offer regardless of the many negative comments that have been made on this forum about them both. Claus was just fantastic and once again displayed just how competitive and tough he is on the track. Antti didn't get the points his efforts deserved but both him and Tate once again showed great promise. Big well done to Celina who was competetive throughout and very nearly caught Jake Mulford on the line after having to go off a 15m handicap. Hope she is alright following the colllision with Connor Bailey after the race. The bears didn't do a lot wrong but only having 5 heat winners 4 of which were in the first 4 heats was telling. -

Good race track, good few racers on show so given the right weather should be an entertaining meeting. Once again a new track for the Comets newbies to get to grips with soon as possible. Score wise it's hard to call for me personally but the Bears obvious favourites. Always enjoy my trips to the ECCO Arena, it will be great to cheer on my home town team there for the first time since 2018. -
Just bought the stream too so hope it goes ahead. Not rained all day at Scunthorpe apparently and here they are having to work on the track. Not a great look for the sport.

Of course it is, but for riders of similar ability these variables hugely contribute to who beats who.
